Bupivacaine Infiltration and Postoperative Pain

Postoperative PainLocal Infiltration1 more

This is a double-blind randomized controlled trial to assess the efficacy of local infiltration of bupivacaine versus placebo, in reducing postoperative pain. The severity of pain will be assessed in terms of mean score on visual analogue scale, opioid requirement and average duration of hospital stay.

A Study Evaluates the Effects of Electroacupuncture for Postoperative Pain Relief in Patients With...

Postoperative Pain Relief

Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex (TFCC) is the main stable structure of the distal ulnar joint (DRUJ), and the damage of the triangular fibrocartilage complex is the most common cause of pain in the ulnar side of the wrist in the young athlete population. Once TFCC is injured, arthroscopic surgery is a common repair method. The postoperative analgesic method is generally oral or injection analgesic. In recent years, electroacupuncture(EA) has been widely used to relieve pain after surgery, and many studies have confirmed that it is effective. However, there is no evaluation of analgesic efficacy after arthroscopic repair of the TFCC. Therefore, it is hoped that the efficacy of electroacupuncture for analgesia after arthroscopic repair of the TFCC is demonstrated by this study. And, the investigators also hope the investigators can reduce the use of painkillers through electroacupuncture. Methods:It is expected that 30 patients will be randomly assigned to the following groups: electroacupuncture group(EAG), EA at points; non-point group (NPG), EA at non-points, control group (CG) without EA electroacupuncture group(EAG): EA at points after surgery non-point group (NPG): EA at non-points after surgery Control group: only injection painkiller were used before surgery

Addition of Popliteal Plexus Block to Continuous Femoral Nerve Block for Total Knee Arthroplasty...

PainPostoperative

The popliteal plexus block has been described as an alternative analgesic postoperative pain treatment for total knee arthroplasty. It consists of injecting local anaeshetics inside the distal end of the adductor canal close to the adductor hiatus, adjacent to the femoral artery, between the medial vastus muscle and the adductor magnus muscle, in order to anesthetize the popliteal plexus. However, the analgesic efficacy has never been demonstrated in a randomized controlled trial. Therefore the objective of this study is to investigate the analgesic benefit of this block combined with a continuous femoral nerve block, on patients scheduled for total knee athroplasty.

Paravertebral Block for Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy

Post Operative Pain

This study will compare post-operative pain levels in patients who receive paravertebral block prior to Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) surgery versus those who do not receive the block. We hypothesize that patients who receive the block will have lower post-operative pain scores and require less narcotics.

Continuous Infusion of Local Anesthetic for Optimal Post Operative Pain Control Following Hemorrhoidectomy...

Hemorrhoids

Over the past decade, continuous wound infiltration systems have been introduced to treat a variety of post-surgical pain. These systems, commonly referred to pain pumps by patients, possess a catheter(s) attached to a reservoir of local anesthetic that directly infuses into the surgical site to provide local pain control thus avoiding the common and less desirable systemic effects of oral narcotic pain medication. Due to its portability, another benefit associated with these wound infiltration systems is its use as an outpatient pain control modality. Despite the apparent benefits, the verdict on the system's effectiveness in treating pain - throughout a variety of surgical fields - varies between very effective in reducing post-operative pain and reducing overall narcotic consumption for several days to completely ineffective with no reported changes in perceived pain or overall narcotic use. Through a randomized trial comparing plain saline to a common local anesthetic, The investigators hope to evaluate the effectiveness of these pain pumps as an outpatient modality for pain management following hemorrhoidectomy patients. The investigators hypothesize that there will be a significant benefit in pain relief with the use of these pumps.

Preoperative Anxiety and Postoperative Pain in Children

Post-Operative PainPre-Operative Anxiety

We wish to study which method of local injection of analgesic (before or during surgery) is the more effective method to reduce post-operative pain in children. In addition, we wish to study which pre-operative educational intervention is more effective in reducing anxiety in children and their family.
