Liver Function Test Abnormalities in COVID-19

Liver Function Tests Abnormalities

With the increasing number of COVID-19 infected patients, several studies reported that the liver is the most frequently affected organ after lung damage. The percentage of infected patients who had abnormal levels of transaminases (alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST)) was about 14.8-53.1%. The elevation in serum bilirubin was mostly mild. Aims of work: To study liver function tests abnormalities in Egyptian patients who infected with COVID19 To evaluate if liver function test abnormalities are related to the severity of the Covid19.

Four-limb Blood Pressures in Infants With High Risk of Congenital Malformation of Aorta

Congenital Heart Disease in ChildrenCoarctation of Aorta3 more

Pulse oximetry screening (POS) for critical congenital heart diseases (CCHD) could identify 90% of these infants. However, this approach is not designed to detect cardiac defects without hypoxemia, especially congenital malformations of aorta (CMoA). More than 60% of CMoA was late diagnosed. Infants with CMoA were supposed to present with blood pressure (BP) gradient between four limbs. But a large sample size retrospective study of four-limb BP screening showed a negative result. The possible reason is that this study ran in population with a very low risk of CMoA. Whether four-limb BPs measurement could be used in infants with high risk of congenital malformation of aorta is still to be determined. The investigators retrospectively collected four-limb BPs, which was prospectively measured, in infants with high risk of CMoA. These data were divided into two groups, the discovery group and the validation group. The best cutoff of four-limb BP gradient was generated by Youden Index. The BP gradients by age were analyzed. Pre-operative hypotension and post-operative hypertension were also analyzed.

Betaseron Pregnancy Registry

Birth DefectsPregnancy Complications1 more

This is a prospective, observational, registration and follow-up study of women exposed to Betaseron® at the time of conception (i.e., any time from the first day of the last menstrual period) and/or during pregnancy. The Betaseron® Pregnancy Registry is designed to determine whether there is an increased risk or a pattern of birth defects in the offspring of women exposed to Betaseron® at conception and during pregnancy compared to rates from women in the general US population. Secondarily, the Registry will examine rates of spontaneous abortions and other negative pregnancy outcomes in this population. This study will be conducted in the United States (US). The Betaseron® Pregnancy Registry is sponsored by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and is managed by the Post Approval & Strategic Services group at INC Research, LLC. The scientific conduct and analysis of the Registry will be overseen by an Independent Data Safety Monitoring Board (IDSMB) consisting of external specialists in teratology, epidemiology, maternal and fetal medicine, and neurology (external member details available upon request).

Genetic and Nutritional Causes of Heart Birth Defects

Heart DefectsCongenital

Each year in the United States, thousands of babies are born with heart defects. Women who take folic acid during pregnancy have a lower risk of giving birth to infants with heart defects, but the reason for this remains unknown. This study will examine the relationship between genes, nutrition, and the occurrence of heart defects in infants.

The Evaluation of Simplified Predictive Intubation Difficulty Score.

Head and Neck DisorderDifficult Intubation1 more

Difficult intubation is considered one of the most important obstacle increasing mortality in anesthesiology. Airway assessment tests are proceeded to overcome these difficulties in the pre-anesthetic evaluation. In this study, the Simplified Predictive Intubation Difficulty Score (SPIDS) and Thyromental Height Measurement (TMH) were chosen as primary methods to predict difficult intubation. The ear-nose-throat (ENT) and Plastic Surgery patients were planned to enroll this study to assess the effectiveness of these tests in predicting difficult intubation in Maltepe University Hospital and Sisli Hamidiye Etfal Governmental Hospital. The SPIDS of volunteers will be calculated according to their previous knowledge of difficult intubation, airway pathologies, head and neck movements, mouth opening, modified Mallampati test and thyromental distance. TMH value will be measured with ASIMETO depth device. Finally, the SPIDS and TMH values will be statistically compared to predict difficult intubation which is determined with difficult intubation score (IDS).

Rehabilitation of Adolescents and Young Adults With Congenital Heart Diseases

Heart DefectsCongenital2 more

The investigators aim to measure the impact of a rehabilitation program in congenital cardiology in terms of health related quality of life. The orginality of the rehabilitation program consists in its design : initial hospitalizationfor a short period of time (5 days) at the rehabilitation center, followed by 11 weeks of rehabilitation at home under the supervision of a specialized sports trainer.

Monitoring the HeMAtological TOXicity of Drugs (HeMATOX)

Hematological AbnormalityHematotoxicity

Several drugs and chemotherapies seem to have an impact on the hematological system. This study investigates reports of hematological toxicities, including the International classification of disease ICD-10 for treatments in the World Health Organization (WHO) global Individual Case Safety Report (ICSR) database (VigiBase).

Prevalence of Serum-Vitamin D Abnormalities, Periodontitis and Anaemia in Patients With Melasma...

MelasmaPeriodontitis2 more

Melasma is a commonly pigmention characterized by melanotic patches on the face. literature searched revealed that periodontitis and vitamin D deficiency have occurred along with anemia. Actinic associated factors may be indirectly related to vitamin D, melasma contributes to sun exposed area of face.To correlate melasma with clinical evidence of periodontitis and vitamin D serum analysis along side hb %. Patients with facial melasma between 30-70yrs of either gender formed Group A (95). Anaemia and periodontitis were Clinically checked. Additionally serum analysis of vitamin D and hb percentage were analysed. Similar procedure was carried out on controls which had Group B (95) patients with no melasma on face. The study revealed significant correlation between melasma and periodontitis with vitamin D abnormalities (p value<.05), where as insignificant correlation between melasma and Hb%. The correlation between melasma, vitamin d changes and periodontitis may prompt the clinician to check for any such changes in any patient. Melasma in patients with periodontitis and serum vitamin D changes might be a considered as a syndrome.

Optimisation of Hearing Aid Fitting

Hearing LossHearing Abnormality

This study aims to explore if objective brain responses to speech stimuli (words and running speech) can be used to evaluate hearing aid fitting in adults. Objective brain responses would be beneficial, as they could be used to evaluate hearing with people who are incapable or unwilling to provide subjective responses. The study aims to determine if EEG responses to speech sounds are sensitive to the effects of hearing aids for hearing aid users. Secondary, the study will look into the need for using speech stimuli in order to obtain more robust responses compared to current clinical standards.
