Effect of a Protein-enriched Drink on Muscle Function

Contracture

There is no conclusive evidence about the effect of intake of protein-enriched drink after and acute high intensity exercise bout on muscle function and damage. The investigators aimed to study the effect of a protein-enriched drink on muscle function recovery following an acute high intensity exercise bout. The present counterbalanced, crossover, and double blind study will involve a total of 12 active men.

Registry of Dupuytren's Contracture Treatment Outcomes

Dupuytren's Disease

Experience with Microbial Collagenase (trade name Xiapex) in Europe currently is limited to randomised controlled studies. While such studies are essential to determine efficacy and safety of the product (usually compared to placebo), they provide no information on the effectiveness of the drug and further aspects of its use (feasibility, tolerability, quality of life and other patient-related outcomes) in the typical "real-life" setting under clinical practice conditions. Thus, the present study aims to collect data on the Drug utilization of Microbial Collagenase in the hand of physicians, with focus on feasibility, treatment patterns, and effectiveness in clinical practice Context of Microbial Collagenase therapy (setting, patient characteristics, concomitant treatment, follow-up therapy) Effectiveness (with focus on functionality) Tolerability Patient-related outcomes: patient satisfaction, health-related quality of life Physician satisfaction with therapy Resource utilization (hospital stays, drug consumption, concomitant medication etc.) Long-term outcomes

Joint Range of Motion in Burn Scars

Contractures Resulting From Burn Scar Tissue

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between cutaneous functional unit(CFU)recruitment throughout the available active range of motion of a prescribed joint in normal subjects and patients with burn scars. Specifically, this study will determine if differences in CFU recruitment exist between normal subjects and individuals with burn scars at the dorsal hand, dorsal or volar forearm, or anterior or posterior arm during active range of motion of the MCP joint during flexion, or the wrist or elbow during flexion or extension, respectively.

The Relationship of Rehabilitation Therapy Time To The Prevention of Burn Scar Contracture

Burns

This project will develop a descriptive database of patient information and patient outcomes. This database will be used to determine the association of time spent in rehabilitation and patient outcomes, to relate patient acuity to burn scar contracture development and to establish minimal time requirement guidelines for various rehabilitation patient outcomes.

Prevention of Capsular Contracture Using Trental and Vitamin E

Capsular Contractures

The main purpose of this research study is to determine if the use of Trental and Vitamin E will decrease the incidence and severity of contractures (shrinking and or hardening of tissue surrounding the implant) associated with breast implant reconstruction following radiation treatment. Another goal is to find out the impact that Trental and Vitamin E have on implant loss or need for surgical intervention in the setting of chest wall radiation after reconstruction. In addition, the investigators want to evaluate the patient's sense of well being and quality of life.

Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients With Dupuytren's Disease

Dupuytren's Contracture

Main Research Questions: We want to measure the change in quality of life in Dupuytren's disease patients who do and do not undergo surgery. Also, we want to test the validity of health related quality of life measurements in patients with Dupuytren's disease. Why is this research important? Some patients with Dupuytren's contracture require excision surgery or palmar fasciectomy. Other patient's with Dupuytren's contracture do not require surgery; however, these patients may need surgery in the future. No studies have reported the health-related quality of life of patients with Dupuytren's disease whether related to surgical intervention or not. What is being studied? We are studying the difference and change in health-related quality of life in patients suffering from Dupuytren's disease who require excision surgery and do not require surgery.

Capsular Outcomes of Pediatric Cataract Surgery With Primary Intraocular Lens Implantation

Capsular ContractureImplant1 more

Lens capsular often changes after pediatric cataract surgery, causing complications such as anterior capsulerhexis shrinkage, visual axis opacification (VAO), zonular dehiscence and so on. The aim of study was to prospectively investigate the capsular outcomes of pediatric cataract surgery with primary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

Self Digital Photography for Assessing Elbow Range of Motion

Contracture of Elbow Joint

Loss of elbow range of motion can significantly affect activities of daily living. Measuring elbow range of motion is critical for tracking post surgical outcomes. This study seeks to validate the ability to validate self photography as a means of followup through long distance correspondence.

Gait Asymmetry Assessed Using Portable Gait Analysis System

Ankle OsteoarthritisKnee Osteoarthritis3 more

To date, detailed analysis of movement patterns in orthopaedic conditions are mainly performed in research projects. Because these tests are time consuming, they are not feasible in clinical routine or in standard examinations. Novel technologies allow capturing detailed movement patters within a few minutes. The aim of this regional study is to compare aspects of movement tasks measured using a mobile gait analysis system to those measured using laboratory based systems and to determine aspects of gait patterns relevant for different orthopaedic conditions. Moreover, the researchers will investigate if these relevant aspects can be altered using surgical treatment or manual therapy.
