High Level Mobility Training in Ambulatory Patients With Acquired Non-progressive Central Neurological...
Neurological InjuryBrain injuries are a significant cause of loss of movement. It has been shown that physical therapy can help patients to regain movements. The purpose of this study is to see if it is possible to perform a new exercise program that will help patients regain movement. This new exercise program will involve practicing walking, stairs, jumping and running. Participation in this study will involve physical therapy 1 to 2 times a week for 12 visits over 6 to 8 weeks.
Effect of Prebiotic Fiber- Enriched (scFOS) Enteral Feeding on the Microbiome in Neurological Injury...
Enteral NutritionBrain Injuries2 moreThis study plans to learn more about the impact of enteral nutrition on bacteria in critically ill trauma patients with brain injury. Specifically, it seeks to understand the effect that a prebiotic containing enteral feeding formula (Nutraflora scFOS in Vital AF) has on the gut, oral, and skin bacteria. A prebiotic is a special form of dietary fiber that acts as a fertilizer for good bacteria. The prebiotic Nutraflora scFOS has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is not considered investigational as used in this study. Enteral feeding is a way to give nutrition to critically ill people who are unable to eat.
Carbon Dioxide Surgical Field Flooding and Aortic No-touch Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting...
Neurological InjuryStroke5 moreThe objective of this study is to investigate the value of employing the aortic no-touch off-pump coronary artery bypass technique and the practice of carbon dioxide surgical field flooding for the prevention of type 1 and 2 neurological injuries following surgical coronary revascularization.
Comparative Effectiveness of Family Problem-Solving Therapy (F-PST) for Adolescent TBI
TbiIntracranial Edema16 moreTraumatic brain injury (TBI) is the most common cause of acquired disability in youth and a source of significant morbidity and family burden. Novel behavior problems are among the most common and problematic consequences, yet many youth fail to receive needed psychological services due to lack of identification and access. Linking youth with TBI to effective treatments could improve functional outcomes, reduce family burden, and increase treatment satisfaction. The investigators overarching aim is to compare the effectiveness, feasibility, and acceptability of three formats of family problem solving therapy (F-PST) for improving functional outcomes of complicated mild to severe adolescent TBI: therapist-guided, face-to-face; therapist-guided online; and self-guided, online F-PST.
Stimulation With Wire Leads to Restore Cough
Spinal Cord InjuriesSpinal Cord Diseases6 moreThe purpose of this trial is to determine the efficacy of spinal cord stimulation, using wire leads, to produce an effective cough in patients with spinal cord injuries.
Restoration of Reaching and Grasping Function in Individuals With Spinal Cord Injury Using MyndMove®...
Spinal Cord InjuriesTrauma1 moreA two-arm, parallel group, multicentre, single-blind, randomized controlled trial comparing electrical neuromodulation delivered by MyndMove® therapy to intensive upper-limb conventional therapy in the treatment of patients with moderate to severe motor impairment to their arms and hands from an incomplete, traumatic spinal cord injury.
ERECTOR SPINE PLANE BLOCK VERSUS LOCAL INFILTRATION ANAESTHESIA FOR TRANSFORAMINAL PERCUTANEOUS...
Acute PainChronic Pain13 moreThe main aim of our study was to test the hypothesis that Erector spine plane block (ESP) with sedation will provide the similar employment of fentanyl and propofol during surgery as an infiltrative local anaesthesia with sedation. The primary endpoint was the quantity of fentanyl and propofol during surgery.
Long Term Effects of Soft Splints on Stroke Patients and Patients With Disorders of Consciousness...
Brain InjuriesDisorder of Consciousness10 moreThe purpose of this study is to assess the effects on upper limb spasticity of soft splints worn during three weeks three hours a day by patients with stroke or disorders of consciousness.
Mini Versus Conventional Cardiopulmonary Bypass In CABG in Asian Patients
Acute Kidney InjuryNeurological InjuryOur intention is to perform a randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy and safety of mini cardiopulmonary bypass system to a modified conventional bypass circuit in 80 Asian patients undergoing elective CABG. Our intend is to confirm the efficacy of mini-bypass in reducing haemodilution and reducing blood transfusions, and investigate if this is associated with reduced inflammation and better cardiovascular, neurological, renal, respiratory and infection outcome.
Steroid Treatment After Resuscitated Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest
Out-Of-Hospital Cardiac ArrestCardiac Arrest4 moreComatose patients resuscitated from Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) often develop a complicated systemic inflammatory response and have a poor prognosis with neurological damage being the most common cause of death. This study will investigate the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effect of early treatment with the glucocorticoid methylprednisolone measured by interleukin-6 and neuron-specific enolase levels in resuscitated comatose OHCA-patients.
