Effect of Structured Pressure Injury Patient Education

This study was planned as a prospective quasi-experimental study with the control group to determine the effect of structured pressure injury patient education (program on the knowledge, participation, wound healing progress, and quality of life among patients with limited mobility. We hypothesized that there would be a significant effect of structured pressure injury patient education on patient's knowledge, participation, wound healing rate, and quality of life between the control and intervention group over time.

By saving life or delaying death, the length of stay of the patient in the intensive care unit is prolonged, and this leads to the emergence of other problems in addition to the disease in the patient. Pressure injuries are one of these problems. Although many internationally accepted pressure injury prevention guidelines are available, it is frequently reported that there is no significant reduction in pressure injury prevalence. It has been emphasized in the literature that nurses do not have enough knowledge about the prevention of pressure injury. "Blended Learning", in which technologies such as web-based, e-learning and m-learning are used together with face-to-face education, is an effective approach in realizing learning outcomes. This approach facilitates the achievement of the educational program's objectives by integrating the positive aspects of web-assisted learning and face-to-face learning. In the light of these explanations, it is aimed to examine the effect of pressure injury prevention training given with the blended learning approach on the care behaviors of intensive care nurses.

This study is aimed to examine the effect of different wound dressings on the prevention of pressure injury in the face area related to noninvasive mechanical ventilation mask. The study was completed out with 102 patients who were followed up in Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Hospital between October 2019 and August 2020 and met the inclusion criteria of the study. In the study, hydrocellular and hydrocolloid wound dressing was applied to the pressure areas under the mask of noninvasive mechanical ventilation in the intervention groups, while the routine treatment process was followed in the control group. Wound dressings were obtained from HARTMANN. Study data were collected with the "Individual Characteristics Form" and "Pressure Injury Rating Scale".

Pressure Ulcers are a serious and common problem for residents admitted to long-term care facilities and community care patients. They represent a major burden to patients, carers and the Healthcare system, affecting approximately 1 in 20 community patients. International guidelines recommend the use of pressure redistribution support surfaces, systematic patient repositioning and preventive skin care to prevent pressure ulcers. It has been acknowledged that a significant proportion of pressure ulcers are avoidable. The prevalence of pressure ulcers is 1 of the 4 common harms recorded in the UK NHS Safety Thermometer, a local improvement tool for measuring, monitoring and analyzing patient harms across a range of settings, including nursing homes, community nursing and hospitals on a monthly basis. Static or reactive overlay mattresses are an example of a low-tech constant low-pressure support. Static air mattresses maintain a continuous low air pressure that exerts a pressure redistributing effect. Serraes and Beeckman found a pressure ulcer incidence of 5.1% in patients placed on static air support (mattress overlay, heel wedge and seat cushion) in a high risk population in a nursing home setting in Belgium. The CuroCell SAM PRO (Care of Sweden AB) is a static air mattress overlay system used as prevent and treat pressure ulcers (up to category 3) and for pain therapy. The aim of current study is to measure pressure ulcer incidence on the CuroCell Sam PRO static air mattress in nursing home residents at risk for pressure ulcer development over a 30-day period in Belgium.

Individuals who use wheelchairs are at an increased risk of developing pressure injuries on the parts of the body that are in constant contact with the wheelchair. The development of pressure injuries can cause reduced mobility, reduced activity and participation, greater unemployment, increased risk for future pressure injury development, and premature death. There are numerous risk factors associated with developing pressure injuries. Individuals can reduce the risk of pressure injury formation by changing positions, weight-shifting, and using special cushions, but many people still struggle with pressure injuries. This study is designed to assess the clinical effectiveness of WiSAT (Wheelchair in-Seat Activity Tracker). WiSAT is a tool designed to help prevent the development of pressure ulcers by changing behaviors that can lead to pressure ulcers. WiSAT monitors and provides real-time feedback on weight shifts and pressure relief behaviors while sitting in a wheelchair.

EFFECT OF ENDOTRACHEAL TUBE DETECTION ON PRESSURE

This study was conducted to examine the effect of two different tube detection on pressure wound formation in the intensive care unit. The search was carried out with a total of 60 patients that 30 of 60 them are interventions and 30 of 60 as experiments, who were hospitalized in the anesthesia and reanimation intensive care unit of an Educational Research Hospital. The 60 patients who made up the sample were assigned 2 groups using a computer program that produced random numbers. For the purpose of the study, the groups were encoded as groups A and B, and each group was tested with two different endotracheal tube detection methods which was applied to the patients in the groups. Data from the study were collected using the introductory and clinical features form, the braden pressure wound risk diagnostic scale, the pressure ulcer recovery assessment scale, the international pressure wound staging system, and the eilers oral assessment guide. Patients in both groups were monitored for four days for oral presure injury. During this process, the tube detection of both groups was changed every 24 hours, and the tubes were repositioned every 4 hours. At the end of the fourth day, wound assesments of patients who developed pressure wounds were performed by using the international pressure staging system and the pressure ulcer recovery assessment scale. Relatives of the patients who were scheduled to conduct the study were informed about the study by oral and written and their consent was obtained.

Pressure ulcers (PU) represent a major health issue because of their high incidence and of their important consequences. There is an important risk of pressure ulcer acquisition for ICU patient with acute organ failure. Specific risk factors identified in ICU are immobility, which accentuates the effects of friction and shears, as well as mechanical ventilation and the use of vasopressors. A repositioning schedule is a guideline for pressure ulcer prevention, but repositioning frequency remains unknown. Adaptation of the repositioning schedule to pressure ulcer risk assessment using Braden scale should decrease emergence of pressure ulcer. This could limit their important consequences for ICU patients which add to their brittle clinical condition (infection, increased length of stay, mortality…).

The Effect of Massage in Preventing Pressure Wound Development

Pressure Wound (PW) is a chronic wound that develops in soft tissue as a result of the capillary end pressure which rising above 32 mmHg. It is the most common complication with 31% annual incidence after spinal cord injuries. Pressure wound is considered as malpractice for nursing practices. It decreases the quality of life of the elderly and patients with mobility restrictions and prolongs the length of hospital stay. Complication development risk and cost are high. Factors affecting wound opening include the amount of pressure, duration, moisture, friction, nutrition, age, weight, hemoglobin value, chronic diseases. The development of preventive actions, protocol and standard in pressure wound planning of care is among the main goals of nursing care. The research will be carried out to evaluate the effect of hand massage in preventing pressure injuries. Patient with a high risk of developing pressure wound will constitute the experimental and control group of our study. Standard nursing care applied to the control group; unlike the control group hand massage will be applied to the experiment group.when the sample group determined in both the experimental and control groups is reached the study will be terminated. The pressure wound in both groups will be compared statistically and the effectiveness of hand massage in reducing the pressure wound will be determined. H0 :The applied classical hand massage has no effect on the formation of pressure wound. H1: The applied classical hand massage has effect on the formation of pressure wound.

Mobile Application Effectiveness in Pressure Injury Care

The research was designed in a randomized controlled experimental type in order to determine the effect of mobile application on students' knowledge levels and satisfaction levels about the prevention, treatment and care of pressure injuries. The population of the study conducted in the fall semester of the 2020-2021 academic year consisted of students enrolled in the Basic Principles and Practices in Nursing course at a foundation university in Istanbul between March and June 2021 (N=78). The sample size was calculated with G power 3.1.9.4, based on similar studies, and it was calculated that at least 28 people should be included in each group, with the pre-acceptance of α error being 5%, research power (power) 80%, and an effect value of 0.77. Research data were collected using the "Structured Description Form", "Modified Pieper Pressure Wound Knowledge Test" and "Satisfaction Scale".
