Cognitive Impairment Cohort Study of the Elderly Population in SheMountain

Alzheimer DiseaseDementia3 more

This study is a prospective observational study, which involves a cohort of 2000 all-sex and all-ethnic people aged 60 years and above with permanent residence in Tianma area, SheMountain Town, Songjiang District (suburban area), Shanghai. Demographic information, neuropsychiatric scale, peripheral blood, APOE genotype, brain MRI, speech information, AV45-PET, FDG-PET, Tau-PET, GLP-1R PET, and cholinergic receptor probe (ASEM) PET were collected and analyzed. Follow-up visits were performed twice a year for 4 visits, and neuropsychiatric scales and biological samples were collected at each follow-up visit to construct a diagnostic model for patients with mild cognitive impairment, or Alzheimer's disease, as well as a predictive model for the progression of cognitive impairment.

Passive Sensor Identification of Digital Biomarkers to Assess Effects of Orally Administered Nicotinamide...

Alzheimer DiseaseDementia Alzheimers8 more

This project's main goal is to use state-of-the-art passive sensing techniques to identify digital biomarkers that relate to bioenergetic changes in the brain due to nicotinamide riboside supplementation in those with mild cognitive impairment and mild Alzheimer's dementia.

Study of the Relation Between the Fat Infiltration of the Multifidus Muscle and the Lumbar Foraminal...

Low Back PainDegenerative Condition1 more

The aim of this study is to evaluate the correlation between the fat infiltration of the lumbar multifidus muscle and several parameters including the severity of the lumbar foraminal stenosis. The investigators will analyse lumbar MRI of patients previously included in a database of patients suffering from low back pain. Foraminal stenosis, muscle fat infiltration and other imaging lumbar parameters will be studied by 2D and 3D manuel segmentation, semi-automatic segmentation. Correlations between factors influencing the muscle fat infiltration will be studied by univariate and multivariate statistical analysis.

Investigating ProCare4Life Impact on Quality of Life of Elderly Subjects With Neurodegenerative...

Neurodegenerative DiseasesParkinson Disease2 more

Personalized Integrated Care Promoting Quality of Life for Elderly People (ProCare4Life, PC4L) project was created to finalize a digital platform with integrated sensors , for monitoring the health status of the elderly subjects with neurodegenerative diseases and comorbidities. In fact, an integrated care platform - able to establish correlations between comorbidities, investigate the intake of different drugs, mitigate potential health risks, study the social variables and promote unified therapeutic procedures or social services - could help patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and social health workers to monitor various diseases parameters. The main contribution of the PC4L project is to propose an integrated, scalable and interactive care system that can be easily adapted to the reality of various chronic diseases, care institutions and end-user needs, for the benefit of all the actors involved. The main expected results are to improve patients' quality of life, enable an active life and better disease management, support professionals in decision making, facilitate efficient communication between all stakeholders and ensure reliable and secure access to data at the within Europe.

Pilot Pragmatic Clinical Trial to Embed Tele-Savvy Into Health Care Systems

Alzheimer DiseaseDementia7 more

This cluster randomized pragmatic clinical trial will test the effectiveness and feasibility of embedding the Tele-Savvy intervention, a psychoeducational program for family and other informal caregivers of older adults living in the community with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD), in two health care systems/clinical sites: UConn Health in Farmington, Connecticut, and Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia.

Yogic Breathing Changes Salivary Components

Alzheimer DiseaseNeurodegenerative Diseases1 more

Our aim is to analyze two ancient Tamil practices (chanting and breathing exercise) if they are capable of stimulating saliva containing agents that can be beneficial to the nervous system. Our study subjects will perform Tamil chanting and Tamil breathing exercise. Saliva will be collected before, during and after the exercises. We will quantify the specific proteins in these salivary samples. The results will benefit further studies in various patient populations.

NAD-supplementation in Drug naïve Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson DiseaseNeurodegenerative Diseases

Primary objective: Determine if NR has an impact on the neurometabolic profile of patients with PD as measured by [18F]Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET). Secondary objective: Determine whether high dose oral NR improves motor symptoms associated with PD. Tertiary objectives: determine whether high dose oral NR rectifies NAD metabolism and increases NAD levels in body fluids and muscle tissue.

Evaluating Innovations in Transition From Pediatric to Adult Care - The Transition Navigator Trial...

DiabetesEndocrine System Diseases15 more

The Transition Navigator Trial (TNT) is a pragmatic randomized controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness of usual care plus a patient navigator service versus usual care plus newsletters and other educational materials, to improve transition outcomes among adolescents aged 16-21 who have chronic health conditions requiring transfer to adult specialty care. The study will provide urgently needed data to guide health care providers and policy makers regarding the provision of coordinated transition care. These results have the potential to: Change care delivery Improve health outcomes Improve the experiences of young adult transition to adult care

Electronic-health Application To Measure Outcomes REmotely Clinical Trial

Neurodegenerative DiseaseWeight Loss4 more

This is a phase II feasibility, safety, tolerability and preliminary efficacy study of an e-Health application versus in-person nutritional counseling to maintain or increase weight in patients with neurodegenerative diseases including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's Disease (PD) and Huntington's disease (HD). Primary Objectives include the feasibility, safety, tolerability and efficacy of an e-Health application to maintain or increase body weight compared to in-person nutritional counseling. Secondary Objectives are to measure the number of calories required to maintain or increase body weight in neurodegenerative diseases at all stages of the disease. Tertiary Objectives are to test the effects of an e-Health application compared to in-person nutritional counseling on disease progression using the ALSFRS-R, UHDRS or UDysRS, on survival, and on quality of life using the PROMIS SF v1.1 scale.

Golf Instruction Versus Tai Chi for People With Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson DiseaseMovement Disorders1 more

The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility and tolerability of golf instruction for participants with moderate to advanced Parkinson's disease (PD). Other forms of exercise have been shown to be beneficial for PD. Golf is a low impact sport that utilizes balance and strength. Currently, there are no data looking at the effects of golf on PD. This pilot study aims to test the effects of golf in the PD patient population, particularly its effect on balance. In this study, we will be comparing group golf instruction to group Tai Chi lessons (the gold standard balance exercise for patients with PD).
