
Study of NSI-189 for Major Depressive Disorder
Major Depressive DisorderThe study will consist of a screening period and a randomized treatment. Approximately 220 subjects who meet eligibility during the screening period will be randomized to initiate a 12-week, double-blind treatment with NSI-189 80 milligrams/day (provided as 40 milligrams twice per day), NSI-189 40 milligrams once a day, or placebo.

Suicidal Ideation/BehaviorDepressionThe primary hypothesis of this confirmatory study is that lithium therapy will acutely decrease suicidal ideation and/or suicidal behaviour in inpatients with a major depressive episode (MDE, unipolar and bipolar disorder according to DSM IV criteria). The specific aim is to test the hypothesis that lithium plus treatment as usual (TAU), compared to placebo plus TAU, results in a significantly greater decrease in suicidal ideation and/or behaviour over 5 weeks in inpatients with MDE.

Internet-Based Depression Screening for College Students
Major Depressive DisorderThis study aims to determine whether using telecommunication tools, specifically web pages containing online screening instruments and real-time video chat, will be an efficient way to implement Major Depressive Disorder screening among college students. The study also aims to determine if proactive depression screening and free online consultation with a psychiatrist will increase the rate of help-seeking among college students with MDD. Eligible participants will complete a demographics survey and depression screening assessment online. Those subjects who express suicidality or depressive symptoms will be offered the opportunity to complete a one-time psychiatric consultation with Skype video-conferencing.

Using CBT to Probe Psychobiobehavioral Resilience to Post-trauma Psychopathology
AnxietyDepressionThis randomized controlled trial uses a modularized cognitive behavioral resilience training (MCBRT) intervention to probe risk and resilience mechanisms linked to post-trauma psychopathology. Ninety participants with a history of interpersonal trauma during childhood or adolescence and mild to moderate distress will be randomized to MCBRT or a health education control condition. The primary aims of this proposal are to examine whether individuals who receive MCBRT demonstrate increases in psychological resilience, biological resilience, and extinction learning compared to those in the control group. This study will also explore associations between these psychobiobehavioral risk and resilience factors.

Treatment of Conduct Problems and Depression
DepressionOppositional Defiant Disorder1 moreHaving both depression and conduct problems at the same time has been found to be associated with increased risk for the other and increased risk of negative outcomes. This study will develop an family based cognitive behavioral treatment protocol for youths with both conduct problems and depression, that will take be administered over the course of six months. Youth with comorbid conduct problems and depression will be assigned to the experimental condition or treatment as usual in a community care setting. The treatment manual will be revised as needed. Youth will be assessed before and after treatment to examine program potential. The goal of this research is to develop a more comprehensive outpatient treatment for youth with both conduct problems and depression.

Major Depression40 patients with the diagnosis of major depression are included. There are two interventions: partial sleep deprivation (PSD) and normal night sleep (CTRL). Patients are randomly assigned to PSD-(2 undisturbed nights)-CTRL or CTRL-(2 undisturbed nights)-PSD. Cytokine-status, neuropsychological and psychopathometric status are assessed pre and post each interventional and control condition.
