Exploring Medically Perceived Benefits, Use and Interest in Psychedelics and Cannabinoids

PTSDAnxiety6 more

The primary objective of this study is to collect insights from first responders and military personnel on their need for, use of, and interest in physical and/or mental health medical marijuana or psychedelic-assisted therapy programs. These preliminary data will help to inform and guide the development of a larger patient-oriented study and the design of a clinical program geared towards enhancing therapy treatments for first responders and military personnel.

Anxiety and / or Depressive Disorders in a Population of French Airline Pilot

Anxiety DisordersDepressive Disorder

Throughout their career, the medical abilities of airline pilots are regularly assessed. This population is exposed to occupational constraints and risks, in particular psychosocial, and could constitute a population at risk of developing anxiety and/or depressive disorders. However, mental health remains difficult to apprehend in this population because of a strong stigmatization of mental disorders and the risk of loss of medical certification to fly. In the literature, there are very few studies dealing with mental disorders in airline pilots and the results are heterogeneous, with a prevalence of anxiety and/or depressive disorders ranging from 1.9 to 12.6%. There is no study of this type among airline pilots employed in France. Therefore it seems useful to determine the prevalence of anxiety and/or depressive disorders in this population and to describe the co-factors associated with these disorders.

Voice Biomarkers Predictive of Depression and Anxiety

DepressionAnxiety2 more

The objective of this study is to collect data to improve the sensitivity and specificity of Kintsugi Voice's (formerly KiVATM) predictions on audio files. A web-based audio recording tool will be used to record voice sample and ask participants the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 questions. A voluntary subset of participants will then be assessed by mental health professionals with the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) scores.

Characterization of Suicidal Depression

Depression

Antidepressants are widely used to prevent suicidal risk. However, even though the use of antidepressants has been associated with a 40-60% decrease in suicidal risk, they do not seem to be sufficient and appropriate. Indeed recent studies have shown that patients with a history of suicide attempt and/or with current suicidal ideation (SI) respond less well to antidepressant treatments. This suggests that patients with depression with SI may be different from those with depression without SI, thus requiring specific treatments for both SI reduction and depressive remission. In other words, suicidal depression may be a specific subtype of depression. The study aims to characterize the clinical phenotype of patients with suicidal depression vs. those without suicidal depression, and to assess the occurrence of suicidal events at one year in patients with suicidal depression vs. without suicidal depression. All data having already been collected during the particpation of patients in various clinical research studies of the department

Determinants of Depression and Its Impact on Quality of Life in Patients With Chronic Pancreatitis...

Chronic PancreatitisDepression2 more

Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is associated with recurrent intractable abdominal pain, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency and endocrine dysfunction. Very few studies had evaluated the quality of life in CP, and even a fewer have assessed the mental status in these patients. In the current study, we proposed to evaluate the the relationship between pain, quality of life and depression status in two large independent cohorts of patients with CP. We also proposed to evaluate the brain metabolites in the right and left anterior cingulate cortex, basal ganglia, hippocampus and prefrontal cortex using magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We further proposed to evaluate the pasta metabolites and look for associations with the mental state. Finally, we proposed to evaluate how CP related education of the patients could impact on their mental status and response to interventions on pain.

Neurochemical, Metabonomics and Neuroimaging Characterization of TCM Diagnostic Subtypes of Major...

Severe Major Depression Disorder

There is heterogeneity in patients with depression. Many scholars propose that individualization of antidepressant achieves better outcomes. However, the scientific theoretical basis of individualized treatment is still quite weak. Different clinical subtypes of depression and their possible biomarkers are critically needed to provide the individualization with theoretical base. Diagnostic types of major depression disorder (MDD) based on the Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and possible differentiations in neurobiochemistry, metabonomics and neuroimaging could be one of ways to explore the biomarkers and support the theory of the individualized treatment. The hypothesized results will be of help to clarify the biological basis of MDD with LDQS and with DBHS, to provide the TCM with further scientific evidence, to explore the pathogenesis of depression, to improve the objective diagnosis of depression, and to promote targeted interventions by Western medicine, TCM or both.

Depression Care for Hospitalized Coronary Heart Disease Patients: Prospective Cohort Study

Coronary Heart DiseaseDepression

The aims of this prospective, observational study are to assess the current use of depression care in Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) patients, and to provide estimates for the resources needed to implement guideline-oriented depression health care acceptable to CHD patients with comorbid depression.

Cortical Excitability and Inhibition in MDD

Major Depressive DisorderRecurrent3 more

The purpose of this study is to learn if measures of brain activity are different in children and adolescents with depression who are in different stages of treatment. This is important because it may identify a biological marker for depression that could one day be used to identify depressed children who would benefit from certain treatments (medications for example), or to monitor how well treatments are working. Brain activity measures(known as cortical excitability and inhibition) will be collected by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). TMS is a noninvasive (no surgery or implants) brain stimulation technology which can make parts of the brain work without putting any wires or chemicals into the body. Measurements will take place over one 3-hour visit. This study does not provide any form of treatment. *There is an optional portion of the study that uses a brain scan to gather measures of brain structure and brain chemicals. The brain scan is called magnetic resonance and spectroscopy (MRI/MRS). MRI/MRS uses magnetic fields to study the structure of the brain and brain chemicals. The PI will determine eligibility for the MRI/MRS portion of the study.

Minocycline Hydrochloride in Reducing Chemotherapy Induced Depression and Anxiety in Patients With...

Anxiety DisorderDepression7 more

This randomized clinical trial studies how well minocycline hydrochloride works in reducing chemotherapy induced depression and anxiety in patients with stage I-III breast cancer. Minocycline hydrochloride may prevent changes in memory and thinking and improve the quality of life of breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.
