Determining Relationships Among Maternity Stress & Sleep
Postpartum DepressionDepressionPsychosocial factors, including a previous history of depression, recent stressful life events, sleep disturbances during pregnancy, and depression and/or anxiety during pregnancy have been shown to be associated with an increased risk for the development of postpartum depression (PPD). Biological mechanisms underlying the relationships among these psychosocial risk factors for PPD, and the development of PPD, remain unclear. However, evidence from non-perinatal populations suggest that dysregulation in stress-reactive neuroendocrine factors may play a role. The primary objectives of this study are: (1) to assess the feasibility of enrolling second trimester pregnant women, with or without depression histories, into a laboratory-based study protocol which includes a mild psychosocial stressor and the collection of venous blood for the measurement of stress-reactive adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol; (2) to assess the feasibility of retaining participants, for a brief postpartum phone interview, after completion of the second trimester assessments; and (3) to establish proof of concept for measuring group differences, between women with or without depression histories, in second trimester prenatal measures of neuroendocrine stress reactivity, depressive and anxious symptoms, recent stressful life events, and sleep quality.
Self Focus in Bipolar Disorder: A Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) Study
Bipolar DisorderMajor Depression1 moreThe investigators propose to examine both resting state activity and functional activity during rumination and during self-processing to study the relationship between neural correlates of rumination/self-focus and self-processing in major depression and bipolar disorder.
Complex Dynamic Systems in Mood Disorders
Bipolar DisorderMajor Depressive DisorderComplex Dynamic Systems in Mood Disorders is an observational, exploratory study of the relationship between voice samples, heart rate, respiration, movement, galvanic skin conductance, and sleep architecture with mood states in patients with Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, and healthy controls. The overall hypothesis is that nonlinear dynamic analyses will be able to reveal hidden patterns of complexity in each domain of voice, heart rate variability, movement, arousal, and sleep stage data.
European Drug Utilization Study
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)The purpose of this retrospective observational study is to evaluate the characteristics of patients receiving Seroquel XR as treatment for their Major Depressive Disorder. The study will also investigate how the medication is used for these patients and if there are any differences in drug utilisation between the included countries. The study is observing patients initiating Seroquel XR during a 9 month period corresponding to 3 to 12 months following the launch of the product in each country for the MDD indication. A drug utilisation questionnaire will be used to collect study data from patients' medical records.
Anxiety and Depression in Relatives of Critically Ill Patients: Spouses Versus Other Close Relatives...
Stress DisordersPost-Traumatic2 moreThe main objective of this study is to compare the rate of reported anxiety / depression (HADS >= 8) among spouses and other family members in ICU patients.
Reliability and Validity of Thai Calgary Depression Scale of Schizophrenia (CDSS)
DepressionDepression in patients with schizophrenia is common. Several factors was found to be associated with depression including medical illness, quality of life, positive symptoms, and typical antipsychotics. The Calgary depression scale of schizophrenia (CDSS) is commonly used for screening depression in schizophrenia, however; the Thai version of CDSS has not been validated. This study aims to a.) test the reliability and validity of the Thai version of Calgary depression scale of schizophrenia (CDSS) and b.) identify the prevalence and factors associated with depression in patients with schizophrenia including quality of life, type of antipsychotic drugs, and severity of schizophrenia in 60 patients with schizophrenia at the Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
Identifying Biological Markers for Severe Depression
Major Depressive DisorderThe primary objective of this study is to investigate the biological components of major depression. The investigators are particularity interested in genetic variation and how it contributes to cortisol (because cortisol is higher in severe depression than mild depression or healthy controls) and how it contributes to clinical symptoms, especially suicidal ideation/behavior and psychosis.
Prognosis of Depression in the Elderly (PRODE). A Multicentre, Longitudinal Study of Elderly Depressed...
DepressionDementiaPRODE is a Norwegian multicentre study investigating the prognosis of depression in the elderly. The study has included 169 patients who will be followed with assessments after one and three years. The study hypothesis is that elderly patients referred to specialist health service have a poor long term prognosis.
Brain Mechanisms of Human Motivation
Major Depressive DisorderBipolar DisorderThis study aims to investigate reward learning across the mood disorder spectrum and to investigate the predictive validity of reward learning for subsequent symptom severity.
