Retinol-induced Dermatitis in Aged Skin

Aged SkinPhotoaged Skin

Topical therapy with retinoids is the only proven medical therapy for aged/photoaged human skin. However, topical therapy with retinoids often result in unwanted cutaneous dermatitis, including erythema and scaling. The reseachers intend to investigate the dose, frequency of use, and time dependence of topical retinol-induced dermatitis. The researchers intend to evaluate retinoid-induced dermatitis biochemically, including retinol regulation of retinoid responsive genes that control retinoid metabolism and serve as markers for retinoid bioactivity. The researchers will also investigate the role of EGF receptor pathway in retinoid-induced dermatitis.

Quaternium-15, Use Test

Allergic Contact Dermatitis Towards Quaternium-15

The study is required by the FDA as part of a post-marketing commitment. The purpose of the study is to compare the reactivity of the TRUE Test quaternium-15 patch and a real use exposure. The subjects will wear the patch test for 48 hours and reading will be performed day 3 or 4. The use test will be applied from day 3 or 4 and untill reaction appears. Reactions from respectively TRUE Test and use test will be compared using the McNemar Change Test.

Molecular and Cellular Characterization of Spongiotic Dermatitis

Atopic DermatitisPsoriasis1 more

Spongiotic dermatitis is the histopathologic diagnosis commonly issued by dermatopathologists that encompasses atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and other forms of eczematous dermatitis. The information obtained will assist in development of diagnostic methods for differentiation of the types of spongiotic dermatitis. This study also has the potential to lead to the dissection of pathologic pathways involved in these diseases and development of novel therapeutic agents.

Comparison of Scalp Microbiota of the Psoriasis and Seborrheic Dermatitis Patients

Psoriasis VulgarisSeborrheic Dermatitis1 more

A sterile swap specimen taken from the scalp of the patients with psoriasis vulgaris or seborrheic dermatitis and the volunteer control group will be examined in our study. The examples of the microbiota of the patients will be taken both the lesional scalp and the lesion-free part of the scalp. Then, the microbiota differences between the lesioned scalp and the lesion-free scalp of both groups, and the microbiome differences between the two groups and the control group will be evaluated.

Scratch Behavior Under Standard of Care

Atopic Dermatitis

Wrist-worn accelerometers and associated data analysis platforms will provide quantitative and qualitative knowledge regarding the action of scratching and sleep quantity in a symptomatic Atopic Dermatitis (AD) population. The overall research aim is to evaluate the sensitivity of digital devices to capture drug-induced (standard of care treatments; SOC) quantitative changes in nighttime scratch and sleep quantity in AD subjects. In the current study, the investigators aim to evaluate the ability of wrist-worn accelerometers to detect significant and clinically meaningful changes in scratch behavior and sleep quantity in patients with symptomatic AD aged 2 to 75 years, receiving topical SOC treatment for AD. To evaluate this experimental paradigm, using wearable accelerometers, traditional patient-reported outcome measures/observer-reported outcome (ObsRO) (PRO/ObsRO), thermal videography and physician assessments of AD will be assessed in a well-controlled observational methodology study that has both an in-patient and out-patient portions within the study.
