Study of the Efficacy of Preoperative Cefuroxime Prophylaxis to Prevent Surgical Site Infection...
Surgical Wound InfectionThe purpose of the study is to determine whether a single, pre-operative dose of cefuroxime is effective in preventing surgical site infection in patients undergoing surgery for herniated disk
A Comparison Study Between Contrast Spread and Loss of Resistance Techniques
Cervical RadiculopathyNeck Pain1 moreEarly epidural space identification is critical to the efficacy and safety of cervical epidural steroid injections (CESI) [1]. Currently, the accepted method for epidural space recognition is the loss of resistance technique (LORT). I perform CESIs with fluoroscopy only [2]. I hypothesized that the contrast spread technique (CST) might recognize epidural space concurrently with or sooner than LORT. I also suggested that smaller needles might be employed with CST but not with LORT. To test my hypotheses, I conducted a comparison study.
dHACM in Lumbar Decompression and Microdiscectomy Surgery
ScarringSpinal Stenosis1 moreProspective evaluation of the safety and efficacy of dHACM on clinical outcomes in lumbar laminectomy and microdiscectomy patients as assessed by Oswestry Disability Index.
Spine Surgery for Adhesions in Patients Evaluated for Efficacy and Safety of MedicurtainⓇ (Pivotal...
Intervertebral Disc DisorderThoracic Intervertebral Disc Disorders4 moreThis study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Medicurtain®, an antiadhesion barrier in patients who underwent In Situ Decompression for single level and unilateral herniated lumbar intervertebral disc. Subjects were randomly assigned either into Medicurtain® treatment group or control group. Adhesion formations between the two groups at 12 weeks after surgery were compared by using MRI-applied scar score, ODI (Oswestry Disability Index) and VAS.
Intradiscal Discogel® in Resistant Sciatica
Herniated DiscSciatica2 moreSciatica due to herniated disc is a major cause of disability in young adults. Surgery is the gold-standard and the only controlled treatment in case of failure of conservative treatment. Percutaneous chemonucleolysis with Discogel® may be a valuable alternative to surgery. In addition, Discogel® chemonucleolysis appears as a relatively innocuous technique which may avoid 2% complications after disc surgery and 5% repeated surgery (according to recent trials). This will be the first randomized trial comparing Discogel® chemonucleolysis versus surgery in patients with sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation and unresponsive to conservative medical treatments (including epidural steroid injections) Our expectation is that Discogel® chemonucleolysis will avoid surgery in 80% of the patients.
The Effect Site Concentration of Remifentanil for Conscious Sedation During Awake Nasotracheal Fiberoptic...
Cervical Disc HerniationCervical Spinal Stenosis1 moreRemifentanil provides analgesia, suppresses airway reflex, has little effect on cognitive function. It can be used for conscious sedation during awake nasotracheal fiberoptic intubation. Target-controlled infusion is more reliable technique for maintaining optimal infusion rate than manual controlled infusion. The aim of this study is to determine the effect site concentration of remifentanil for successful conscious sedation during awake nasotracheal fiberoptic intubation.

AnesthesiaDisk Herniated Lumbar1 moreThe aim of this study was to investigate the effects of anaesthesia methods on intraocular pressure during lumbar disc surgery performed in the prone position.

Cervical Disc HerniationCervical Degenerative Disc Disease3 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine what effect intraoperative topical steroids have on reducing swallowing difficulty following Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion surgery.
Radiofrequency Nucleoplasty vs Percutaneous Nucleotomy vs Decompression Catheter in Lumbar Disc...
Herniated DiscThe purpose of this study is to learn which of three minimally invasive procedures is the most effective for treatment of contained lumbar disc herniation.
World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS-II) for Patients With Symptomatic...
Lumbar Disc HerniationThe main purpose of this study is to determine the measurement characteristics of WHODAS II (World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule), as well as to analyze its correlation with symptomatic lumbar disc herniation (Visual Analog Scale, VAS), disability (Spanish version of the Roland Morris Questionnaire, RMQ), fear avoidance beliefs and attitudes (Spanish version of the FAB Questionnaire, FABQ) and quality of life (SF-12). Measurements will be taken at baseline and 6 days later (day 7).
