Dietary Fibers Effect on the Gut Microbiota Composition

MicrobiomeMetabolic Syndrome3 more

The randomized double-blinded placebo-controlled multicenter study will be held in parallel groups. During 5 weeks the efficacy of different endpoints as a measure of response to the daily intake of dietary fibers (8 g of either inulin, pectin, beta-glucan or galactooligosaccharides) will be evaluated. Gut microbiota composition, lipids levels, inflammation markers, microbiome metabolites, changes in quality of life and stool parameters will be assessed in order to predict individual response in participants without serious chronic diseases

A Decade of Sleeve Gastrectomy: Analysis of Short and Long-term Outcome of 562 Patients

Morbid ObesityObesity3 more

Obesity is a chronic disease and its treatment requires close follow-up to accurately assess the efficacy and durability of any treatment strategy. It is widely accepted that bariatric surgery patients require lifetime follow-up to assess for weight loss, co-morbidity changes, and nutritional deficiencies. The study objective was to ascertain efficacy of weight loss and complication rates in 562 consecutive cases of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) in a single surgeon practice.

Identification and Metabolic Characterization of a Cohort of Human Subjects With Mutations in PRDM-16...

MutationObesity2 more

Chinese male subjects will be invited to participate in a research study of brown fat, a special tissue in the body that is designed to burn energy to make heat. The objective is to learn the importance of a gene called "PRDM-16" for the function of brown fat. Subjects were selected as a possible subject in this study because they fulfil the age and weight criteria. 500 subjects from the Singhealth Investigational Medicine Unit healthy volunteer database will be recruited over a period of 2 years. All of the subjects will have their PRDM-16 gene sequenced. The objective is to identify subjects with mutations, or changes, in their PRDM-16 gene. About 12 subjects with PRDM-16 mutations are expected to be identified. Samples of blood obtained during the course of this study will be stored and analysed only for the purposes of this study for a period not exceeding 2 years, and will be destroyed after completion of the study, unless subject is agreeable to donate the samples to the National Heart Centre Singapore for continuous storage for future studies that are approved by the institutional review board..

Effects of Probiotics and Calcium Supplementation on Growth, Development, and Metabolic Parameters...

StuntingObesity7 more

Stunting is still a major problem in developing countries, including Indonesia, and has been associated with impaired development. Stunted children have also a higher risk of metabolic syndrome in adulthood. The gut microbiota, as a part of intestinal integrity, may promote intake of nutrient during childhood. Probiotics supplementation may optimize the balance of gut microbiota and further improve child growth during the window period. Furthermore, calcium could also improve child growth by increasing the resistance to intestinal infection. However, the long-term effects of gut microbiota optimization during childhood using probiotics and calcium on growth, development, and the metabolic condition has not widely studied.

Effects of HIIT on Metabolic Syndrome

DyslipidemiasMetabolic Syndrome3 more

The project aims to find out the differences between two different types of structured training interventions have on the lipid profile of persons with diagnosed dyslipidemia. Each training intervention will last for 12 weeks. Subjects participating in the project will undergo a series of tests before and after the training intervention which will allow us to make conclusions.

Assessment of Dyslipidemic Patients' Knowledge, Quality of Life, and Adherence

Dyslipidemias

A randomized, parallel two-arm interventional study, the patients were divided into 1:1 ratio, in which both groups offered optimal pharmacological therapy also one group (interventional) offered predesign pharmaceutical care plan aimed to improved patients knowledge, adherence, satisfaction, and quality of life, while the other group (non-interventional) received conventional pharmaceutical care plan.

PK Study of Telmisartan/Rosuvastatin FDC Compared to Combination of Telmisartan and Rosuvastatin...

Dyslipidemia & Hypertension

This is a 2 by 2 cross-over study to evaluate pharmacokinetics of telmisartan and rosuvastatin FDC compared to reference telmisartan and rosuvastatin coadministered in two groups enrolling healthy adult male and female subjects under fasting conditions. Subjects will be admitted to the clinic in the evening before Day 1. All subjects will receive a single oral dose of telmisartan/rosuvastatin FDC or telmisartan and rosuvastatin co-administered in the morning on Day 1. All the subjects will remain in the clinical unit until completion of all assessments on Day 2 including collection post-dose PK sample. Subjects will return to the clinic for pharmacokinetic samples at scheduled time. The two treatment periods will be separated by a washout period.

Statin Therapy Results in the Real World Practice in the Czech Republic

Dyslipidaemia

Statins are the first choice treatment of dyslipidemia, a major contributor to cardiovascular diseases. Statins also have enough evidence to demonstrate decrease of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases. Even though statin therapy is effective treatment of dyslipidaemia not all patients reach the goal levels. The aim of the study is to estimate proportion of patients who achieved the therapeutic goal (LDL-C. total cholesterol, HDL-C and triglycerides levels) after at least one year of a statin therapy.
