Ventricular TachycardiaVentricular Fibrillation6 more

The "Registry of Malignant Arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death - Influence of Diagnostics and Interventions (RACE-IT)" represents a mono-centric registry of patients being hospitalized suffering from malignant arrythmias (ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation) and sudden cardiac death (SCD). Detailed findings of patients' clinical outcome regarding mortality and co-morbidities related to the presence of invasive diagnostics or therapies including coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), electrophysiological testing (EP), catheter ablation and implanted cardiac devices (e.g. implantable cardioverter-defibrillators) will be documented. Patients will be included when being hospitalized from the year 2004 until today.

Online Noninvasive Assessment of Human Brain Death and Deep Coma by Near-infrared Spectroscopy

Brain DeathComa

This study aims to assess brain death and deep coma with the self-made near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) instrument. The investigators used the noninvasive method to monitor the Δ[HbO2] (the concentration changes in oxy-hemoglobin) and Δ[Hb] (the concentration changes in deoxy-hemoglobin) in the region around the forehead of medically evaluated participating patients and healthy subjects. A multiple-phase protocol at varied fraction of inspired O2 were utilized during the assessment.

Descriptive and Risk Factors Analysis of All-cause Postoperative Death in Patients Undergoing Emergency...

Postoperative Death

The investigators are aimed to develop and externally validate a prediction model of clinical risk factors that quantifies postoperative death after emergency surgery. The investigators identify all patients treated with emergency surgery, between 2000 and 2020, within the Wuhan Union hospital and all collaborators. The surgical patient cohort will be matched with the National Death database to determine the patient's postoperative death data. 60% patients were randomly selected to the development cohort. Logistic regression analysis for prediction of postoperative death adjusted for different covariates. The model was externally validated in the remaining 40% patients.

Descriptive and Risk Factors Analysis of All-cause Postoperative Death in Patients Undergoing Prolonged...

Postoperative Death

The investigators are aimed to develop and externally validate a prediction model of clinical risk factors that quantifies postoperative death after prolonged surgery. The investigators identify all patients undergoing prolonged surgery which the operation time >3 h, between 2000 and 2020, within the Wuhan Union hospital and all collaborators. The surgical patient cohort will be matched with the National Death database to determine the patient's postoperative death data. 60% patients were randomly selected to the development cohort. Logistic regression analysis for prediction of postoperative death adjusted for different covariates. The model was externally validated in the remaining 40% patients.

Sudden Cardiac Death Stratification in Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1 Patients

Myotonic Dystrophy 1Sudden Cardiac Death

The aim of the study is to evaluate if the electrophysiological study (EPS) guided therapy, including the prophylactic implantation of implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), in inducible patients, is able to improve survival in comparison with conventional therapy (CONV strategy) in Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 patients with conduction disorders.

Estimate of the TSD Based on the Quantification of the Tau Protein in CSF

Time of Death

Background: The accurate estimation of the time of death is a challenge in forensic medicine, as the methods routinely used to assess the post-mortem interval (PMI) are far from being precise. Recent developments in biochemical techniques may provide the opportunity to assist in more precise estimation of the time of death. The focus has been placed on the study of the biochemical profiles of closed compartment body fluids, as they are longer preserved than blood after death and subject to confined post-mortem chemical changes. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has been considered as a suitable fluid to investigate these changes, as it is easy to sample and found in large amount. Due to its closeness to the central nervous system (CNS), CSF is used in clinical settings for the diagnosis of various CNS disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, whose diagnosis is mainly based on the increase of the concentrations of Tau protein and its phosphorylated isoform (p-Tau) in CSF. A post mortem leakage of Tau into the CSF has also been shown, reflecting progressive neuronal death as in Alzheimer's disease. In this exploratory, cross-sectional study, we investigated Tau in post mortem CSF as a potential biomarker of the time of death. Objectives: The main objective was to assess the correlation between the concentration of Tau in CSF and the PMI. The secondary objectives were (1) to determine the inter-individual variability of the concentration of Tau for a same PMI; (2) to determine the kinetics of this concentration over time in the same individual; (3) to determine the variability of this concentration according to the site of collection (lumbar vs. sub-occipital).

Risk Stratification in End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) - ISAR Study

End Stage Renal DiseaseChronic Kidney Disease2 more

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of non-invasive markers of the autonomic function and micro- and macrocirculation to predict mortality and cardiovascular end points in end-stage renal disease patients. Furthermore we aim at getting new insight into the insufficiently understood pathophysiology leading to excessively high cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular mortality in dialysis patients.
