Data Mining: Precision Analytical Retrospective Data Correlation

Obesity; EndocrineHormone Disturbance

Data from previously analyzed clinical samples tested by Precision Analytical, Inc. will be mined to identify and select samples from patients reporting hormone supplement use. Patient demographics (BMI, for example), different therapies and expected changes in hormone levels will be analyzed and hormone metabolite patterns will be compared. Samples will be deidentified prior to analysis.

Endocrine, Bone And Metabolic Disorders In Adults After Allogeneic Stem-cell Transplant

Endocrine System DiseasesOsteoporosis2 more

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantations (allo-HSCT) is often indicated in malignant hematologic diseases. Conditioning regimens, used to reduce the tumor burden and to prevent transplant rejection, are based on chemotherapy alone or combined with total body irradiation (TBI). Endocrine complications are frequent transplant-related side effects. Investigators have been well described in children studies but less in adulthood. The objective of this study is to assess retrospectively endocrine, bone and metabolic disorders in adult patients, 12 months after allo-HSCT.

Semen Parameters and COVID-19 in Infertile Men

Sperm CountLow2 more

Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) is a global pandemics which affects many organs and systems with a range of morbidities and high mortality rates. There are a number of studies revealed that COVID-19 may affect the testes and male genital tract which may in turn disrupt the gonadal functions. The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of COVID-19 on semen parameters and sex-related hormone levels.

Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport Multicenter Study

HealthSubjective12 more

Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) characterizes a range of negative health and performance outcomes that result from chronically low energy availability. RED-S concerns high performance junior and senior athletes across Canada and has a prevalence rate of 3-60%. Our ability to assess and diagnose RED-S remains poor. Accordingly, we aim to create the best parameters to diagnose and manage RED-S; along with information of the prevalence and severity across Canada and globally. These outcomes are expected to have a significant positive impact on the health and performance of Canadian athletes in preparation for the Olympic Games in 2022 and beyond.

Vitamin D Metabolism in Patients With Endocrine Disorders

Pituitary ACTH HypersecretionAcromegaly3 more

This prospective controlled interventional study aims to reveal the diversity of vitamin D metabolism in patients with certain endocrine disorders (Cushing's disease, acromegaly, primary hyperparathyroidism, diabetes mellitus type 1) compared to healthy adults. All patients will receive a single dose (150,000 IU) of cholecalciferol aqueous solution orally. Laboratory assessments including serum vitamin D metabolites (25(OH)D3, 25(OH)D2, 1,25(OH)2D3, 3-epi-25(OH)D3, 24,25(OH)2D3 and D3), free 25(OH)D, vitamin D-binding protein (DBP) and parathyroid hormone (PTH) as well as serum and urine biochemical parameters will be performed before the intake and on Days 1, 3 and 7 after the administration.

Salivary Cortisol Measurements by Mass Spectrometry

Endocrine Disorders

Cortisol is a hormone critical for survival in times of stress. Currently most measurements are done with blood samples. The hypothesis of this study is cortisol measured from saliva using mass spectrometry can be used to replace measurements by blood.

Observational Study of Blood Glucose Levels and Gut Microbiota in Healthy Individuals

Nutritional and Metabolic DiseasesEndocrine System Diseases1 more

Categorization of glucose levels into 'healthy', 'pre-diabetic' or 'diabetic' is increasingly seen as artificial. Furthermore, most micro and macrovascular complications may be present already at the pre-diabetic stage. Hyperglycemia, pre-diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) are fully reversible, thus, maintaining normal blood sugar levels is crucial for the prevention and control of diabetes and the various other consequences of the metabolic syndrome. Only interventions that are individually tailored can achieve proper glycemic control, and the glycemic index (GI), which quantifies the glycemic response to particular foods, was developed for this purpose. In this study the investigators will characterize the blood glucose responses and microbiota of healthy individuals, aiming to assess the influence of food intake on gut microbiota and the influence of gut microbiota on glycemic responses.
