Hormonal Status and Quality of Life in Female Postmenopausal Patients With Burning Mouth Syndrome...

Burning Mouth SyndromeProgesterone4 more

The aim of this study was to determine the level of salivary estradiol, progesterone and dehydroepiandrosterone in female postmenopausal women with and without burning mouth syndrome. In all participants the quantity of unstimulated and stimulated saliva would be determined and they would fulfill self-perceived quality of life questionnaire Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14). Intensity of burning symptoms would be determined on visual-analogue scale grading 0-10. All data would be compared between study and control group.

French National Registry of Adults With Growth Hormone Deficiency Treated With Somatropin

Growth Hormone DisorderAdult Growth Hormone Deficiency

This study is conducted in Europe. The aim of this study is to extract data from the French National Registry holding information about patients having initiated growth hormone therapy with the objective to describe patients receiving growth hormone therapy, assess efficacy and safety of somatropin (Norditropin® SimpleXx®) and evaluate treatment compliance.

Endocrinological Profile in Patients With Medication-overuse Headache Before and After Withdrawal...

Endocrine DisorderDeficiency2 more

The project will be conducted to investigate the hormonal homeostasis in men and women, with a special emphasis on sex hormones in men and AMH level in women, before and after withdrawal of the overused analgesics among MOH patients. Additionally, a more broad endocrine profile will be explored before and after withdrawal. It is hypothesized that patients with MOH have disturbed hormone levels, which is normalized after withdrawal of the medication-overuse.

12 Weeks of Resistance Band Exercise Impacts on Adiposity, Hormones, and Blood Pressure in Postmenopausal...

HypertensionHormone Disturbance1 more

The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of a 12-week resistance band exercise program on body composition, aging-related hormones, and blood pressure in postmenopausal women with stage 1 hypertension. Twenty postmenopausal women with hypertension participated in this study. Participants were randomly allocated into the resistance band training group (EX, n = 10) or the control group (CON, n = 10). The EX group performed a resistance band exercise training program at jump rope training program at 40-70% of their heart rate reserve (HRR) 5 days/week for 12 weeks (sessions 60 minutes in duration). The CON group did not participate in any exercise, dietary, or behavioral intervention. Body composition, aging-related hormones (growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor 1, dehydroepiandrosterone, and estradiol), and blood pressure were measured before and after the 12-weeks study.

Oocyte Retrieval Progesterone Levels and IVF

Hormone Disturbance

Objective: To assess whether basal hormonal level can predict the elevation of P4 on the day of oocyte retrieval, as well as to examine the impact of P4 elevation on the day of oocyte retrieval on the outcome of assisted reproduction. Design: Prospective cohort study Setting: Department of In Vitro Fertilization, Gynecology and Obstetrics Institute, Clinical Center of Serbia Patient(s): One hundred sixty four patients enrolled in the ART procedure Main Outcome Measure(s): Pregnancies, miscarriages, biochemical pregnancies and deliveries

Serum Sclerostin Level & Treatment of Vitamin D Deficiency

Endocrine System DiseasesVitamin D Deficiency

The aim of this study is to determine serum sclerostin levels and change in serum sclerostin levels in patients with Vitamin D deficiency treated with calcium and vitamin D. Healthy premenopausal Patients with Vitamin D deficiency diagnosed and routinely treated with calcium and vitamin D will be included in the study. This is an observational study. The serum sclerostin levels will be measured before and after Vitamin D treatment.

304-C03/L3301n: Effects of Growth Hormone on Glucose and Protein Metabolism in Children With Growth...

Growth Hormone Deficiency

The purpose of the proposed study is to investigate the effects of rhGH treatment on glucose, protein and fat metabolism in GHD children. Specifically, the investigators will measure the rates of glucose production, gluconeogenesis, glycogenolysis, insulin sensitivity and glucagon response before and after treatment with rhGH. In addition, the investigators will study changes in protein and fat metabolism pre and post rhGH therapy in children with GHD. The findings in the GHD children will be compared to those of a control group of age and sex matched healthy children. Hypotheses: H1- The fraction of glucose derived from gluconeogenesis is decreased and that from glycogenolysis is increased in the post-absorptive state in untreated GHD children when compared to healthy children. H2- Treatment with rhGH will not change the overall glucose turnover but will normalize the abnormal partitioning of gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis in GHD children. H3- GH replacement will reduce urea production and increase estimates of protein synthesis, thus optimizing the availability of amino acids for growth. H4- Untreated children with GHD after an overnight fast will have an increased glucagon challenge response that will decrease after 8 weeks of treatment with rhGH. Specific Aims: In healthy and newly diagnosed GHD children the investigators will: 1. Measure the Glucose Production Rate (GPR) 2. Determine the fraction of glucose derived from gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis 3. Estimate insulin sensitivity 4. Measure proteolysis and protein oxidation 5. Determine glucagon challenge response after an overnight fast. The above-mentioned parameters will be re-evaluated in the children with GHD after 8 weeks of rhGH therapy.

Evaluation of Women With Endocrine and Reproductive-Related Conditions

Endocrine DiseaseInfertility3 more

This study was designed to allow inpatient and outpatient evaluation of women with a variety of reproductive and endocrine-related disorders for purposes of research and physician education. The evaluations may include ultrasound examinations, blood, saliva, and/or urine samples. In some cases, specific laboratory or X-ray studies will be performed to confirm the diagnosis or assist in the treatment of the patient. These additional tests will be conducted within the guidelines of current gynecologic practice. In some cases, the patient will receive medical or surgical treatment for their disorder. The purpose of this study is to provide an opportunity for physicians to evaluate women with medical conditions of reproduction. These evaluations and treatments will support clinical training and research for the accredited training program in reproductive endocrinology at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).<TAB>
