Urotherapy vs. Urotherapy With Constipation Treatment for Children With Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction...

Diurnal Enuresis

Constipation treatment has been found to ameliorate symptoms in some patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction (including day time or combined day time/night time urinary incontinence). This study aims to explore if treatment of patients without overt constipation (As defined by the ROME III criteria) will also respond to anti-constipation treatment with reduction of their urinary tract symptoms. Assessment of severity and response of lower urinary tract dysfunction will be based on the Vancouver NULTD/DES questionnaire.

Identifying Stress Urinary Incontinence in Women With Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Stress Urinary IncontinencePelvic Organ Prolapse

What test is most sensitive in identifying stress urinary incontinence in women with pelvic organ prolapse; urodynamics, cough stress test, or pyridium pad test? The hypothesis states that there is a difference between the sensitivity of UDS, pyridium pad test and cough stress tests, with UDS being the most sensitive and the gold standard in identifying SUI in patients with pelvic organ prolapse.

Innovative Minimally Invasive Options in Treatment of Urinary Problems Related to Prostate Enlargement...

Lower Urinary Tract SymptomsBenign Prostatic Hyperplasia6 more

For ageing men, Health related quality of life ( HRQoL) is challenged by two common issues: the onset of bothersome urinary symptoms attributable to prostate enlargement and diminishing ability to maintain normal sexual activity and function; both issues are important to men, yet often the treatment of the former has adverse effects on the latter. Current medical and surgical treatments offer symptomatic improvement of urinary symptoms. However long recovery times, degradation of sexual function and incontinence may negatively affect a patient's QoL. Prostatic urethral lift (PUL) and prostate artery embolization (PAE) represent two evolving techniques with contrasting mechanisms of action (mechanical decompression vs angiographic embolization). Both are minimally invasive, yield relief of urinary symptoms and have similar safety profiles. More importantly neither causes degradation of sexual function or urinary continence. Although multiple studies are being reported on PUL and PAE alike, currently there are no prospective clinical trials comparing these two technologies. We aim to prospectively evaluate and compare HRQol outcomes of PUL and PAE. Results of this study could have a great impact on patient outcomes in men opting for minimally invasive, sexual function sparing treatment options for symptom relief from prostate enlargement.

Biomarkers in Urine for Children With Monosymptomatic Nocturnal Enuresis and Nocturnal Polyuria...

Nocturnal Enuresis

The aim of the study is to identify protein markers in relation to the enuresis related nocturnal polyuria by using mass spectrometry on nocturnal urine samples. A biomarker for nocturnal polyuria would simplify an important part of the clinical characterization of enuresis patients.

Evaluating the Necessity of TOT Implantation in Women With Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Occult Stress...

Stress Urinary IncontinencePelvic Organ Prolapse

Nowadays the clinical significance of an occult stress urinary incontinence and its optimal treatment is not known.Regarding treatment, there are 2 main approaches : either the systematic preventive treatment of the occult stress urinary incontinence by means of a tension free vaginal tape (TOT) together with the treatment of prolapse or the treatment of prolapse in the first place and treatment of stress incontinence in a second time when and if it appears. This study is expected to provide objective evidence concerning the efficacy and security of TOT implantation for the prevention treatment of occult stress urinary incontinence in women with pelvic organ prolapse and occult urinary incontinence. The perspective is to improve the management of these patients by providing evidence based recommendation for their treatment.

Postpartum Pelvic Floor Muscle Training in Women With and Without Injured Pelvic Floor Muscles

Urinary Incontinence

Although pregnancy and childbirth are associated with happiness and a positive life change for most women, it can also be considered as risk periods for injuries to the pelvic floor and development of pelvic floor dysfunction. This may leed to devastating loss of function and quality of life (Ashton-Miller & DeLancey 2007). The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of postpartum pelvic floor muscle training for primiparous women with and without pelvic floor muscle injury.

Self-Care to Prevent Birth-Related Urinary Incontinence in Diverse Women

Urinary Incontinence

The primary goal of this project is to determine the efficacy of an antenatal Bladder Health class to prevent UI in a diverse sample of African American, Caucasian, and Hispanic childbearing women. The determination of efficacy will be made at 12-months post index birth, a time point that is a traditional benchmark of recovery from childbirth, using UI incidence/severity as the primary outcome.

A Single-Blind, Randomized Study to Compare fCO2 Laser Therapy Versus Sham for Treatment of SUI...

Stress Urinary IncontinenceUrinary Incontinence

This is a prospective randomized sham-controlled study of patients undergoing vaginal treatment with a fractional carbon dioxide (fCO2) laser for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) symptoms. Eligible participants will be randomized (like a flip of a coin) to receive active or sham fCO2 laser treatments. Three treatments with the fCO2 laser or sham to the vagina will be performed, approximately four weeks apart.
