Evaluation of Stress Sensitivity and Hyperemotivity in Epilepsy Compared to and a Group of Healthy...

Epilepsy

Recently, a possible subtype of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) has been proposed: this subtype presents ipsilateral amygdala enlargement (AE) without any other lesion. However, little is known about its clinical and psychiatric phenotype. The amygdala seems to play a major role in stress related disorders (including perception of stress). The hypothesis in this study is that patients with TLE-AE more frequently report emotional distress as a seizure-precipitating factor than any other epileptic patient.

Omics-based Precision Medicine of Epilepsy

Epilepsy IdiopathicClinical Disease and/or Syndrome1 more

Epilepsy is a major disease of the nervous system (WHO, 2015), as well as the second most common neural disease. It has been recorded that there have been 65 million epilepsy patients all over the world, more than 10 million in China, resulted in high morbidity, high mortality, heavy social and social psychological burden. Due to complex etiology, which genetic playing a large part for 70%-80%, easy to recurrent, as well as various seizure types, a great heterogeneity in clinical manifestation, epilepsy is difficult to treat in general, at least 33% patients. At present, It's still a big challenge in early warning, choice of treatment, efficacy and severe adverse reaction rate, prognosis assessment. Lack of precise diagnosis based genetic and molecular bio-markers for treatment are the main key points. Recently, clinical phenotype classifications of epilepsy have been refined, the exist researches had made a progress in gene mutation mechanism and targeted therapy, which pushed epilepsy being another disease could be precise treated after tumor. It's sure to provide a breakthrough for another neural diseases if epilepsy precise treatment project are successful.

Helium 4 Optically Pumped Magnetometers : a New Generation of Sensors for High Speed Functional...

Normal SubjectPatient With Pharmaco-resistant Epilepsy

Our goal is to perform a first evaluation of the capabilities of a new generation of non-invasive magnetoencephalography sensors (OPM He4) to record brain magnetic activities. The investigator will record 1) normal subjects stimulated with visual, auditory, somesthesic and motor stimuli and 2) epileptic patient. The investigator will compare the signal to noise ratio of the normal or pathological activities between classical MEG sensors and our OPM He4 prototype.

fMRI Investigation of Depression in Patients With Epilepsy

EpilepsyDepression

Depression is very common in epilepsy. Depression is the strongest predictor of poor quality of life in patients with epilepsy. The biological basis for depression in epilepsy remains poorly understood. This study uses functional MRI (fMRI) to examine brain response to emotional and non-emotional stimuli in healthy control subjects and in patients with epilepsy who are either depressed or not depressed. Results from this study will contribute to a better understanding of depression in epilepsy, which may eventually inform development of better treatment modalities..
