Natural History of Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Eosinophilic EsophagitisResearchers are trying to understand the course of Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE), its progression and effects of treatments.
Prevalence of Food Allergies in a Cohort of Adult Patients With Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Eosinophilic EsophagitisFood AllergiesEosinophilic esophagitis is characterized by an eosinophilic infiltration of the esophagus. It presents clinically with a variety of symptoms including dysphagia, emesis, and food impaction. Although the underlying mechanism is different, gastroesophageal reflux can present with similar clinical findings but can be distinguished from eosinophilic esophagitis by the number of eosinophils present on esophageal biopsy. In children, food allergies play a role in exacerbating eosinophilic esophagitis, but the role of food allergies in adults is uncertain. In this study, we aim to determine the prevalence of food allergies in a cohort of adults with eosinophilic esophagitis.
Diagnostic Value of Fecal Calprotectin in Disorders of the Upper Gastrointestinal Tract
Peptic EsophagitisPeptic Ulcer3 moreFecal calprotectin is a very sensitive non-invasive inflammation marker in the detection of inflammatory bowel disease and, to a lesser degree, has also proven to be useful in adenomatous polyps, neoplasias, and infectious gastroenteritis. Elevated calprotectin levels can also be found in patients with lesion only in the upper gastrointestinal tract. However, the diagnostic value of calprotectin has never been tested in this setting. The aim of the study is therefore to determine the diagnostic value of fecal calprotectin in patients with diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
Special Drug Use Surveillance of Vonoprazan for "Maintenance Therapy of Reflux Esophagitis: Long-term...
Reflux EsophagitisThe purpose of this survey is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of long-term administration of vonoprazan tablets when used as maintenance therapy for reflux esophagitis in routine clinical settings.
Use of Esophageal String Test to Understand Symptoms, Inflammation, and Function in Eosinophilic...
Eosinophilic EsophagitisPresently, the only method available to monitor disease activity in Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) is endoscopy with pathological review of biopsies. The overall goal of this study is to determine the ability of the Esophageal String Test (EST), a minimally invasive capsule based technology, to measure disease activity in children with EoE. Additionally, to determine esophageal distensibility in children presenting with EoE by using the EndoFLIP (functional luminal imaging probe) device during endoscopic procedures.
Mucosal Impedance Balloon in Diagnosis and Treatment of Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE)
Eosinophilic EsophagitisHealthyThis study will evaluate the role the balloon mucosal impedance may have in diagnosing and monitoring the patients with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. We will compare the results of the balloon mucosal impedance in patients with Eosinophilic esophagitis and controls.
Mecapegfilgrastim Prevents Neutropenia and Radiation Esophagitis
Small Cell Lung CancerEvaluation of the efficacy and safety of Mecapegfilgrastim for the prevention of neutropenia and radiation esophagitis after hyperfractionation in patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer
To Learn How Bone Structure and Bone Mass Change After Long-term PPI Use
Barrett's EsophagusErosive Esophagitis1 morePatients with severe acid reflux and/or Barrett's esophagus are recommended to take Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)indefinitely to prevent complications such as strictures or the development of a type of esophageal cancer. Recently, some studies suggested that taking these medications on a long-term basis may affect the bone. Therefore, it is important to learn whether these medications may lead to accelerated bone loss so that effective preventive measures can be developed for patients who require these medications for acid-related conditions. Several studies reported that patients receiving PPIs for many years may have increased risk of hip fractures. However, it is unclear whether this is because the PPIs cause reduced bone density or whether the increased risk of fractures has nothing to do with PPIs and is because patients who require PPIs have other illnesses that cause the increased fractures. The purpose of the study is to learn how bone structure and bone mass change after long-term PPI use.
Eosinophilic Esophagitis: Influence of Dilation on Dysphagia and Inflammation
Eosinophilic EsophagitisEsophageal Stenosis2 moreA database analysis and review of histological slides (retrospective) and a patient questionnaire analysis (prospective) will be conducted in Bern (Switzerland) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of esophageal dilation and its effect on the underlying eosinophilic inflammation in patients with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. This trial is investigator driven.
Comparison of Acid Reflux at Two Levels in the Esophagus Using the BRAVO Capsule
EsophagitisInflammation3 moreThe purpose of this research is to study the level of acid exposure above the gastroesophageal junction and the distal esophagus in patients with reflux symptoms using a capsule type acid measurement system. Patients with reflux symptoms are likely to have more acid reflux just above the junction of the stomach and the esophagus that may help to improve the diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This may help better treat the reflux symptoms.
