Effectiveness of Fatigue and Activity Management in Work (FAME-W) for Individuals With Inflammatory...

Inflammatory Arthritis

Many individuals with Inflammatory Arthritis (IA) experience symptoms of pain and fatigue which interfere with work. Over 50% of people with IA report workplace difficulties resulting in sick leave, absenteeism and reduced productivity. Loss of ability to continue paid employment results in physical, emotional and financial hardship for individuals with IA and has societal and economic implications. Previous research has identified pain and fatigue as dominant symptoms that interfere with work capacity and therefore interventions are required to reduce the impact of these symptoms on work activities. The purpose of this study therefore is to test the effectiveness of a 4-week Fatigue and Activity Management Education for Work intervention. The study will use a mixed methods design. A randomized control trial will test the effectiveness of the intervention and a qualitative process evaluation with explore acceptability and participants' experiences of the intervention. Individuals with IA, of working age, will be recruited in Rheumatology outpatient departments of three hospitals. Study participants will be randomly assigned to a four-week online self-management intervention or a self-guided symptom management workbook. Study measures consist of self-report questionnaires related to work and symptom management. All participants will also be invited to an interview to discuss their experience of participating in the study.

The Safety and Efficacy of Redsenol-1 Plus on Cancer-related Fatigue in Adults Who Have Received...

FatigueCancer1 more

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Redsenol-1 Plus on cancer-related fatigue (CRF) in adults who have received cancer treatment. The change in the severity of CRF from baseline at week 12 will be assessed by the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-F) fatigue subscale, and compared between Redsenol-1 Plus and placebo groups. Additionally, the safety and tolerability of Redsenol-1 Plus, as compared to placebo, will be measured by the occurrence of and/or changes in treatment-emergent adverse events (AEs).

Effects of Probiotics on Gut Microbiota, Endocannabinoid and Immune Activation and Symptoms of Fatigue...

FatigueStress1 more

The aim of the planned research is to assess the dynamics of changes in the elements of the gut-brain axis (GBA), the cytokine profile and the endocannabinoid system markers, after dietary supplementation with probiotics Lactobacillus helveticus Rosell-52 and Bifidobacterium longum Rosell-175 by professional dancers. Although in recent years there has been growing interest in the influence of the gut microbiota on the body's adaptation to stress stimuli and on overall health, there is a lack of information on the influence of probiotics on systems involved in maintaining neuropsychiatric balance, such as the endocannabinoid system. In order to determine the validity of the applied therapy with selective probiotics, the following will be assessed: intestinal bacteria and bacterial metabolites in the stool, cannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors and enzymes in the blood, indicators of mental distress in the blood, cytokines responsible for the modulation of the gut-brain axis in the blood, as well as questionnaires regarding the functioning of the digestive tract, fatigue, stress and sleep quality. The study will involve active dancers of the Polish Theater in Poznan, the Polish Dance Theater, the Private School of Dance Art in Poznan and students of the Academy of Physical Education in the field of Dance. Dancers are a group of athletes that is exposed to particular injuries and work-overload. Professional dancers spend multiple hours a week on intensive physical training. The largest percentage of injuries occurring in the group of professional dancers are chronic injuries, including: inflammation of soft tissues, muscle strains and tears. Professional dance is one of the most physically demanding forms of physical activity, and at the same time it is associated with a high burden on the nervous system problems caused by performances in front of an audience or subjective jury, frequent traveling and disturbances in the circadian rhythm.

The Effect of Jin Si Herbal Tea on Cancer-related Fatigue of Gynecological Cancer Patients

Cancer-related FatigueGynecologic Cancer

Cancer-related fatigue caused by cancer and treatment reduces patients' compliance with treatment. Cancer-related fatigue is often the main reason why patients are reluctant to continue treatment. Even after finished chemotherapy, most patients still feel fatigued. Therefore, how to solve the patient's fatigue caused by cancer and treatment is a very important issue, and there is no effective treatment at present. This project plans to use the Jin Si herbal tea developed by our hospital to improve cancer-related fatigue.
