Treatment for Teachers With Vocal Fatigue

Vocal FatigueTreatment

Teachers are a population at high risk for voice disorders given their occupational demands. In a teaching career, a common debilitating symptom among all vocal symptoms experienced is - vocal fatigue, impacting teachers' occupational performance and increasing health care costs. It is therefore essential to identify potential treatment options to alleviate the symptom of vocal fatigue. The purpose of this study is to utilize a body-system level cardiovascular training protocol in comparison to traditional voice production training to alleviate the symptoms of vocal fatigue.

The Impact of Beef on Muscle Fatigue in Older Adults

Muscle WeaknessMuscle; Fatigue2 more

The goal of this controlled-feeding cross-over diet intervention is to compare a beef diet to a vegetarian diet on muscle fatigue in older adults. The aims are: AIM 1: To test the hypothesis that muscle fatigue is attenuated in older adults consuming beef compared to older adults consuming a plant-based diet. AIM2: To test the hypothesis that daily beef consumption improves biochemical indicators related to muscle fatigue. Participants will be randomized to consume either a beef-based diet or vegetarian diet under controlled-feeding conditions for 8 weeks. After a 2-week washout period, participants will cross-over to consume either the beef diet or vegetarian diet for 8 weeks. Body composition and functional muscle outcomes will be measured during each 8-week feeding period. Blood samples will also be collected.

Investigation of Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome After COVID With Pharmacotherapy (Pregabalin)...

Chronic Fatigue SyndromeCOVID-191 more

This is a single-center, prospective, randomized, double-blind (pharmacotherapy), placebo-controlled, and comprehensive rehabilitation phase II clinical trial to determine the usefulness of pregabalin in a new indication (post-COVID chronic fatigue syndrome). Patients will be randomized in a 1:1:1:1 ratio to pregabalin (75-300 mg daily in two divided doses), comprehensive rehabilitation with a placebo drug, comprehensive rehabilitation with pregabalin (75-300 mg in two divided doses), or placebo (two divided doses) for 6 months (177-187 days). There will be 4 outpatient visits to the research center and 12 telephone consultations. The procedures and assessments performed as part of the study are listed in the study schedule. It is planned to include 132 patients in the study, which, assuming a 10% level of non-completion of the program, will result in the examination of 120 patients (30 in each arm). Patients will be recruited during an outpatient medical consultation with a general practitioner or neurologist, psychiatrist, psychologist or other specialists, as well as with the use of information materials in the form of leaflets and advertisements on the Internet.

Neuromuscular Fatigue During Exercise in COPD-HF Overlap

Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Obstructive1 more

Rationale. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart failure (HF) coexist in approximately one third of patients presenting with one of these conditions. From a clinical standpoint, impaired tissue oxygen (O2) delivery stands as a common pathological mechanism of these cardiorespiratory diseases. Recent evidence suggest that muscle and cerebral blood flow and oxygenation are further impaired during exercise in patients with COPD-HF overlap compared to isolated diseases. However, it remains unknown whether impaired O2 delivery is associated with exaggerated manifestations of peripheral and central fatigue in COPD-HF overlap. In addition, improving cardiopulmonary interactions through non invasive positive pressure ventilation or through the addition of a hyperoxic gas mixture during exercise have been associated with enhanced cerebral and muscle O2 delivery and oxygenation in patients with COPD or HF. It is, therefore, conceivable that improved O2 delivery to these structures have beneficial influence on exercise capacity in patients with COPD-HF overlap due to less peripheral and central fatigue. Aims. To investigate the influence of impaired O2 delivery during exercise, and its alleviation with different interventions (non invasive positive pressure ventilation ± hyperoxia), on neuromuscular fatigue in patients with COPD-HF.

Lupus Intervention for Fatigue Trial

FatiguePhysical Activity2 more

Participants in the Chicago Lupus Database or individuals seen at Northwestern Medicine will be approached to enroll in a one year clinical trial looking at decreasing fatigue in persons with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The intervention group will receive individual coaching sessions focusing on physical activity and nutrition while the control group will receive individual calls in relation to SLE self-management educational sessions. This study is designed to evaluate the LIFT intervention to decrease fatigue (primary outcome), improve physical activity (secondary outcome) and dietary behavior (exploratory outcome) in persons with SLE.

CanRestoreFunction Cancer-related Fatigue ( CRF )

Breast Neoplasm

The goal of this randomized control trial is to determine if participating in an 8-week online cancer-related fatigue management intervention consisting of individualized exercise program, one-on-one goal setting and action plan development and interactive educational module will significantly reduce the perception of cancer-related fatigue, improve the quality of life, improve perceived cognition, and perceived function of breast cancer compared to a wait-list control group. The aim the project is to determine if an online cancerrelated fatigue management program is associated with 1. A decrease in cancer-related fatigue. 2. An improved perception of their ability and satisfaction in completing important activities 3. Greater quality of life. 4. Improved mobility 5. Improved perceived cognition

Photobiomodulation, Cryotherapy Combined With Compression, and Massage for Recovery

LaserMuscle; Fatigue2 more

Skeletal muscle fatigue is an inevitable phenomenon in the training and competition routine for many crossfit athletes, which can impair their physical performance and predispose them to musculoskeletal injuries. Thus, strategies and/or therapies that minimize fatigue and accelerate muscle recovery are extremely relevant for everyone involved with sport. The aim of the present study is to investigate and compare the effects of photobiomodulation, cryotherapy combined with compression, and massage as isolated therapies for muscle recovery after a protocol of induced muscle damage and fatigue in Crossfit athletes. This is a randomized, double-blind, crossover, sham-controlled clinical trial. Will be recruited 60 male participants, adults, aged between 18 and 40 years, Crossfit practitioners. They will be randomly allocated into 3 groups of 20 participants per therapy, each crossed between effective and sham every 15 days. The primary outcome will be muscle performance in functional test (free squat) and knee extensor torque in maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC). Secondary outcomes will be evaluated by the levels of muscle damage via creatine phosphokinase (CPK) and inflammatory process via blood C-reactive protein (CRP); and delayed onset muscle pain via numerical verbal scale (0-10). All outcomes will be evaluated at baseline, 24h and 48h after induction of muscle damage and fatigue. Data will be analyzed and compared intra and inter groups with a significance level of 5%.
