Effects of Soluble Dietary Fiber on Sport Efficiency and Fatigue Delay in Top Basketball Players...

Dietary FiberSports3 more

Athlete nutrition is becoming an increasingly important factor on the path to achieving top results. Nutrients such as soluble fiber can alter the intestinal microbiota, resulting in metabolites with a positive effect on metabolism. Thus, the fibers become available, an additional source of energy to the host, have an anti-stress effect and delay the feeling of fatigue. The primary goal of the study is to determine the impact of soluble dietary fiber on increasing athletic efficiency, the secondary goal is to determine the impact of fiber on delaying fatigue. Subjects will be randomly divided into experimental and control group. The sample of variables will consist of genome microbiota genome sequencing data, measures to assess morphological characteristics, lower extremity explosive strength tests, and cardiovascular endurance. The statistical package SPSS will be used for data processing. The expected scientific contribution of this research is to expand the scientific knowledge about the importance of dietary fiber in the diet of athletes with the aim of improving sports performance.

Alternative Exercise Program to Improve Skeletal Muscle Function and Fatigue in Cancer Survivors...

Breast Cancer

Exercise training has beneficial effects in cancer survivors to minimize some of the side effects of cancer and its treatment and improve long-term prognosis, but there are numerous hurdles for individuals diagnosed with, and being treated for, cancer to participate in exercise programs. The goal of this research study is to begin to evaluate whether exercise training via neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) has beneficial effects on skeletal muscle size and function in cancer survivors.

The SleepTrackTXT2 Randomized Trial With Air-medical Personnel

Poor Quality SleepFatigue

The overarching goal of this proposal is to address the MedEvac foundation priority of educational techniques and technologies and improve Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) safety by determining if overall sleep quality and intra-shift fatigue of HEMS clinicians can be improved with real-time assessment and intervention. Aim 1: To determine the short-term impact of an enhanced SleepTrackTXT intervention on HEMS clinician fatigue reported in real-time during and at the end of shift work. Aim 2: To determine the long-term impact of the SleepTrackTXT intervention on sleep quality and sleep health indicators including hours of sleep and recovery between shift work.

Muscle Fatigue and Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors

Hypoxia

The objective of this research is to assess the effects of acetazolamide and methazolamide on respiratory and limb muscle fatigue development. A fatiguing protocol will be conducted for the respiratory and plantar flexor muscles and the difference in pressure/torque produced by supramaximal nerve stimulation used to assess muscle fatigue between conditions.

Laser Therapy on Neuromuscular Performance

Fatigue

Objective: Investigating the immediate effects of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) on neuromuscular performance in healthy subjects after an induced muscle fatigue protocol. Methods: Eighty volunteers of both genders aged between 18 and 28 years underwent a preliminary evaluation using surface electromyography and isokinetic dynamometer of the flexor muscles of the elbow. The subjects were randomly allocated into 4 groups: G1 was control group; G2 placebo; G3 laser applied before fatigue protocol; and G4 immediately after. Muscular fatigue protocol consisted of 30 maximal concentric isokinetic contractions at 120°/s of the elbow flexor muscles. An 808 nm equipment was used for applying laser therapy, with a power of 100 mW and total energy of 20 J. Volunteers were reassessed after interventions.

Capacitive-resistive Electric Transfer Therapy for Recovery From Running Fatigue

RunningFatigue

Reducing fatigue and improving the recovery capabilities of runners has gained more interest over the last years. Recently, capacitive-resistive electric transfer (Tecar) therapy is commonly used by physical therapists to help athletes recover from muscle fatigue. However, empiric evidence supporting the benefits of Tecar to recovery is lacking. This study investigated the effects of a Tecar treatment performed shortly after an exhausting training session on both physiological and biomechanical parameters of running.

Yoga for Fatigue in the Survivors of Bone Marrow Transplantation

FatigueCancer

Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) after hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is a persistent problem that limits activities and causes distress. Considering the high prevalence of CRF among HCT survivors and the limitations of currently existing treatments, there is a pressing need for establishing safe and effective options for reducing CRF after HCT. Based on evidence supporting the use of yoga for CRF in non-HCT populations, yoga is one option worthy of evaluation for ameliorating CRF in HCT patients. Yoga is easy to implement, may be appealing to HCT patients, and can be self-administered, which would encourage long-term use and potentially lead to a better control of persistent CRF in HCT survivors. The primary aim of the proposed study is to assess the feasibility of a yoga intervention for HCT survivors with CRF. Outcomes from this feasibility study will provide the information needed to design a larger, adequately powered randomized controlled trial to evaluate yoga for CRF in HCT survivors. This study will employ a mixed-methods, single-arm, pretest-posttest design with focus groups. Twenty HCT survivors who report at least moderate fatigue will be recruited from the HCT clinic, Michigan Medicine. Participants will be enrolled in a six-week Restorative yoga program. The program will consist of a weekly, 60-minute yoga group class led by a certified yoga instructor along with twice-weekly home practice using yoga DVD.

The Effect of 3D Autostereoscopic Video-game Play on the Visual Fatigue in Children

Visual Fatigue

This study aims to examine the specific effect that 3D game play has on the control of the eyes horizontal movements. It will examine the youngest group of consumers this technology is marketed to, 7 to 11-year-olds and no children under 7 years of age will be recruited to this study as per Nintendo's hardware guidelines, which recommends that children under 7 years of age not play in 3D mode. It will examine the effect of playing in 3D for 30 minutes on horizontal fusional amplitudes compared with a control group playing in 2D for 30 minutes.

Turning Night Into Day: Transcontinental Provision of Telehealth By and For the Emory Community...

Mental Fatigue

The purpose of the study is to determine if temporarily relocating clinicians who deliver remote care using the eICU telehealth system to Sydney, Australia will lead to greater job satisfaction, reduced physiologic stress, and improve performance. Four nurses and six physicians will be sent to a site in Sydney Australia on a rotating basis to determine whether providing care during the Australian daytime is more efficient and precise than providing care during the night in the United States.
