Kinetics of Microparticles Under Chemotherapy in Patients With Gastric or Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic CancerGastric Cancer

Microparticles have recently emerged as a thrombotic risk marker with a potential role in determining which patients are at greatest risk for developing thrombosis. Available data show an increase in the level of microparticles in cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy for solid tumors with a possible link to their thrombogenic state. Our study focuses on the kinetics of microparticles under chemotherapy in patients with pancreatic or gastric cancer by serial measurements of microparticles procoagulant activity. Detailed Description: The impact of chemotherapy on microparticles expression will be assessed by measuring their procoagulant activity on blood samples taken during the course of chemotherapy. The thrombotic risk will be evaluated by the score of Khorana in parallel. Microparticles expression in patients with thrombosis will be compared to that in other patients.

Palonosetron Hydrochloride in Preventing Nausea and Vomiting Caused by Radiation Therapy in Patients...

Anal CancerCarcinoma of the Appendix10 more

RATIONALE: Palonosetron hydrochloride may prevent nausea and vomiting caused by radiation therapy. It is not yet known whether palonosetron hydrochloride is more effective than a placebo in preventing nausea and vomiting. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying the side effects of palonosetron hydrochloride and to see how well it works in preventing nausea and vomiting caused by radiation therapy in patients with primary abdominal cancer.

Escitalopram in Treating Depression in Patients With Advanced Lung or Gastrointestinal Cancer

Colorectal CancerDepression8 more

RATIONALE: Escitalopram may help improve depression and quality of life in patients with advanced lung or gastrointestinal cancer. It is not yet known whether escitalopram is more effective than a placebo in treating depression in patients with advanced lung or gastrointestinal cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying the side effects of escitalopram and to see how well it works compared to a placebo in treating depression in patients with advanced lung or gastrointestinal cancer.

Real-time Identification of the Aberrant Left Hepatic Arterial Territory in the Liver Using Near-infrared...

Stomach Neoplasm

" Hepatic artery variants are occasionally seen, especially 20-30% of aberrant left hepatic artery. In radical gastrectomy, decision for aberrant left hepatic artery(ALHA) ligation should consider the oncologic safety and liver-related complication. Theoretically, the ALHA preservation is the most ideal in the aspect of liver function protection. However, it is technically difficult which consumes much time. Not only that, oncologic safety could be threatened as some soft tissues, including lymph nodes, could be remained while in preserving the ALHA. There has been no standardized method to evaluate the ALHA, and to decide whether preserve or ligate it. This prospective study has been designed to develop the decision algorithm to define the ALHA preservation/ligation, using near-infrared fluorescence imaging during surgery. "

Talazoparib in Treating Patients With Advanced or Metastatic Solid Tumors That Cannot Be Removed...

Estrogen Receptor NegativeHead and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma21 more

This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of talazoparib in treating patients with solid tumors that have spread to other places in the body and usually cannot be cured or controlled with treatment (advanced) or have spread to other places in the body (metastatic) and cannot be removed by surgery and liver or kidney dysfunction. Talazoparib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.
