Low-Cost Imaging for Cervical Cancer Prevention in the Texas Lower Rio Grande Valley

Malignant Neoplasms of Female Genital Organs

The purpose of this study is to evaluate a different type of medical equipment called "High-Resolution Microendoscope" (HRME) for the diagnosis of cervical pre-cancerous lesions and cervical cancer. The investigators want to compare patients' clinical findings using the current equipment used in clinic with the clinical findings using new equipment we are testing on this research project. If the new equipment is proven to give comparable findings with current equipment being used, doctors might be able to offer a diagnosis and treat cervical lesions in one visit. It might not be necessary to wait for cervical biopsies to come back before women would receive the indicated treatment. Study subjects are being asked to participate because they have been diagnosed with an abnormal Papanicolaou (Pap) PAP smear, positive human papillomavirus (HPV) test or history of cervical dysplasia and need to have a colposcopic examination to determine the reason for abnormal results and receive treatment.

Impact of a Systematic Social Work Driven Approach on Medical Power of Attorney Documentation, Knowledge,...

CaregiverMalignant Female Reproductive System Neoplasm

This trial evaluates the impact of a systemic social work driven approach on medical power of attorney documentation, knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs in participants with stage I-IV gynecological cancers. Social work counseling and education may help increase the number of participants who complete medical power of attorney documents. Counseling and education may also affect attitudes about decision-making and willingness to take part in these conversations in participants with stage I-IV gynecological cancers and their family members and/or caregivers.

Wound Infiltration With Liposomal Bupivacaine vs. Standard Wound Infiltration With Bupivacaine in...

Malignant Neoplasms of Female Genital OrgansGynecologic Cancer

Bupivacaine is a drug that is traditionally given as an injection to numb surgical sites. Liposomes are molecules that are similar to fats. Sometimes drugs are combined with liposomes to make them able to stay in the body for longer periods of time. This has been done with bupivacaine to create liposomal bupivacaine. The goal of this clinical research study is to compare the effects of bupivacaine to those of liposomal bupivacaine when given to patients who are having gynecologic surgery. Researchers want to compare how long the drugs work to numb the wound and how long patients take to recover from surgery.

Longitudinal Evaluation of Women Undergoing Pelvic Surgery for the Treatment of Gynecologic Cancer...

Cervical CarcinomaEndometrial Carcinoma3 more

The study investigates whether certain characteristics of gynecological cancer can help researchers predict how well a patient recovers from surgery to remove the lower colon, rectum, and bladder, and create openings through which urine and stool are passed out of the body (pelvic exenteration). Comparing the types of surgery completed and procedures used may help researchers to determine which are most effective and safe in patients with a history of gynecologic cancer.

Family Caregivers in Underserved Populations Providing Complex Cancer Care

Malignant Female Reproductive System NeoplasmStage 0 Lung Cancer AJCC v815 more

This clinical trial develops and tests a model of family caregiver education focused on the role of underserved family caregivers as providers of complex care in the home. Cancer patients have symptoms from their cancer or treatment and are then supported by family caregivers at home with tasks requiring technical skill. Family caregivers are often asked to provide complex care whether it involves decisions about managing symptoms or providing technical care for ports/pumps, tubes, or devices. Family caregivers often are not given enough information on how to provide care for patients at home needing complex care. The results from this study may help researchers refine and improve the intervention for caregivers through future research for caregivers on a much larger scale.
