Evaluation of Omeprazole Effect on Glaucoma

Glaucoma

Omeprazole is a safe drug listed in OTC drug due to its safety. It acts by irreversible inhibition of K/H ATP ase pump and also Na/K ATP ase, Na/H ATP ase.Considering these actions the effect of omeprazole on decreasing intra ocular pressure is an issue of debate. In this Randomized Clinical Trial conducted in labafinejad hospital, patients with glaucoma who need to take omeprazole due to GI problem are evaluated in two groups including placebo and drug users. The effect will be finally assessed.

IOP Reduction After Anecortave Acetate Injection in Glaucoma Patients

GlaucomaIntraocular Pressure

Introduction: Ocular administration of glucocorticoids is a common and effective treatment for several ocular diseases. However it is often complicated with the elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP). Anecortave acetate (AA) is an analog of cortisol acetate and lacks the typical anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties of glucocorticoids. The effect of its anterior juxtascleral depot (AJD) injection has been evaluated in cases of glaucoma caused by intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide, presenting impressive results. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the AA injection as a possible antiglaucoma treatment alternative. Methods: A prospective clinical study will be carried out including 30 glaucoma patients (30 eyes). After inclusion each patient will receive a single AJD injection of 30 mg of AA in the selected eye. Main outcome measure include: intraocular pressure at 1st day, 7th day, 1st, 2nd and 3rd months.

Intraocular Pressure (IOP) Changes Associated With Muslim Prayer Postural Changes

Glaucoma

Elevated intraocular pressure is widely accepted as a risk factor for glaucoma and controlling the pressure remains the cornerstone of effective treatment. There is evidence that posture can have a significant effect on intraocular pressure fluctuations. Salat (or Salah) refers to the five daily prayers performed by Muslims. The time spent praying in a kneeling or prostrate position may be associated with wide fluctuations in intraocular pressure, potentially sight-threatening for Muslim patients with glaucoma. The researchers seek to investigate the link between traditional daily Muslim prayer postural changes and intraocular pressure changes.

ALPI vs Medical Therapy Effects on Optic Nerve Structure & Function

Glaucoma

The aim is to determine which approach, immediate argon laser peripheral iridoplasty or conventional systemic medical treatment efficiently breaks acute angle closure attack without consequent visual morbidities. The specific objectives are to see whether sudden intraocular pressure(IOP) lowering brought about by laser iridoplasty or medical treatment affects optic nerve head structure and function and identify if immediate decompression is associated with greater incidence of ocular problems like corneal endothelial compromise, optic disc edema, macular edema, decompression retinopathy, cataract formation, progression to chronic angle closure.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome in Glaucoma

Obstructive Sleep Apnea SyndromeGlaucoma

The aim of the study is to determine if plasma matrix-metalloproteinase activity can predict glaucoma in patients with OSAS and if the level of plasma matrix-metalloproteinase activity will decrease after one month of nCPAP-treatment.

Early Manifest Glaucoma Trial (EMGT)

Open-Angle Glaucoma

The primary purpose is to compare the effect of immediate therapy to lower the intraocular pressure (IOP) versus late or no treatment on the progression of newly detected open-angle glaucoma, as measured by increasing visual field loss and/or optic disc changes. The secondary purposes are to determine the extent of IOP reduction attained by treatment, to explore factors that may influence glaucoma progression, and to describe the natural history of newly detected glaucoma.

Collaborative Initial Glaucoma Treatment Study (CIGTS)

Open-Angle Glaucoma

To compare the long-term effect of treating newly diagnosed open-angle glaucoma with standard medical treatment versus filtration surgery.

A Study to Assess the Effect of Rho-Kinase Inhibitor AR-12286 Ophthalmic Solution 0.5% and 0.7%...

Advanced Glaucoma

A. To evaluate the ocular hypotensive efficacy of the rho-kinase Inhibitor (AR-12286 0.5% and 0.7%) ophthalmic solutions in glaucoma patients with failed prior glaucoma filtering surgery and uncontrolled IOP who are facing further surgical intervention. Patients will be treated for 6 months in this initial trial. B. To evaluate the efficacy of AR-12286 in enabling treated patients to delay or avoid the necessity of further surgical intervention.
