Pancreatic Enzyme Supplementation for Celiac Disease

Celiac Disease

The purpose of this protocol is to conduct a pilot study to investigate whether pancreatic enzyme supplementation will improve symptoms in individuals with celiac disease who suffer persistent symptoms despite a gluten free diet. This protocol specifically aims to: Evaluate the efficacy of pancreatic enzyme supplementation for reduction of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with celiac disease on a gluten free diet. Assess the ability of fecal elastase levels to predict response to pancreatic enzyme supplementation in patients with celiac disease on a gluten free diet.

Budesonide in Patients With Immune Mediated Enteropathies

EnteropathyCeliac Disease3 more

Researchers are trying to determine if withdrawal of budesonide therapy in patients with immune-mediated enteropathies doing well on therapy will result in worsening symptoms, histology, quality of life, and micronutrient/nutritional status when compared to continued therapy.

Response to Hepatitis B Vaccine in Celiac Disease Patients

Celiac Disease

Celiac disease and infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) are very prevalent worldwide and carry a high morbidity rate. It has been recently shown that patients with celiac disease very often fail to develop immunity after standard vaccination for HBV during infancy. In this study, we will evaluate whether a second vaccination series via a different route of administration (into the skin rather than the muscle) results in a better immunological response in celiac patients. Eligible patients will be randomized to receive a 3-dose vaccination series into the skin or to the muscle. Rate of responders and level of immunity will be compared. This study will facilitate better protection of celiac patients to this potentially deadly virus.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Overlaping Celiac Disease

Celiac DiseaseIrritable Bowel Syndrome1 more

The goal of this prospective observational cohort stuty is to assess the prevalence of overlap irritable bowel syndrome on coeliac disease in patients on gluten-free diet. The main questions it aims to answer are: percentage of the occurrence of irritable bowel syndrome in the population of Polish patients with celiac disease on restrictive gluten-free diet what is the correlation between the persistence of intestinal symptoms and adherence to a gluten-free diet (according to the patient's assessment) or confirmation of disease remission (based on histopathology or antibody level).

Creon Use in Coeliac Patients With Low Faecal Pancreatic Elastase

Patients With Coeliac Disease and Chronic Diarrhoea (>3 Loose/ Liquid Motions a Day for More Than 4 Weeks)Patients With Pancreatic Exocrine Insufficiency

Faecal elastase is an enzyme test used to identify the presence of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency. This condition manifests with symptoms of diarrhea, weight loss, causing potential impairment on an individual's quality of life. Creon, a pancreatic enzyme supplement, marketed by Abbott Laboratories, Inc. is currently the standard treatment for this condition. However, there has been limited work evaluating the merits of this medication in this condition. This study aims to evaluate the benefits that Creon may have in coeliac patients with low faecal pancreatic elastase by randomising patients with low faecal pancreatic elastase (<200 ug/g) to either treatment with Creon or placebo. Outcome measures that we aim to assess to determine the benefits of Creon include evaluation of stool frequency, abdominal pain, body mass index (BMI) and quality of life.

Combined Antibody Screening for Celiac and Diabetes Evaluation

Type 1 DiabetesCeliac Disease

The CASCADE Study (Combined Antibody Screening for Celiac and Diabetes Evaluation) is an observational study whose primary goal is to show that population-based screening for advanced prediction of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and celiac disease (CD) is feasible to prevent diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), improve celiac disease diagnosis, and ultimately gain public health acceptance to facilitate future prevention. It has two arms, a Birth Cohort and a Kids (cross sectional) Cohort.
