The secondary objective is to determine the effect of CI waiting time between referral and CI surgery on the same societal related outcomes, in the adults with postlingual moderate/severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss.

This project examines vestibular loss as a contributing factor to reading difficulties for children with hearing loss, where previously only the effects of hearing loss and subsequent language difficulties have been considered. These results are expected to influence the identification and habilitation of vestibular loss in children with hearing loss.

Hearing ImpairmentThe goal of this clinical trial is to find out whether hearing test results using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) will help to fast-track early intervention for infants born with a hearing loss. fNIRS is a method of imaging brain activity using light. The main questions are: Can audiologists make more confident decisions about the optimal interventions at different critical points in the hearing care pathway when they are given additional fNIRS information compared to when they have standard audiology test results alone? Is the experience of their infant having an fNIRS test acceptable and comfortable for the parents or care givers?

Head and Neck NeoplasmsHearing LossRadiotherapy and combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy are used to treat most tumours in the head and neck region. Unfortunately, these treatments often result in hearing loss and tinnitus that has a negative impact on quality of life. This study will use a battery of sensitive tests, including measures of hair cell and neural function, before and after treatment, to measure the effects of these treatments on auditory function. The results will be compared with the individual radiotherapy dose characteristics, using state-of-the-art data mining technology, to identify the auditory substructures that are most sensitive to radiation with respect to the effects on auditory function. The data will provide the basis for new dose constraints to limit radiation doses to any identified substructures and to minimise loss in hearing ability for patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer.

Epilepsy; SeizureNeuromuscular Diseases15 moreThe "North Carolina Clinical Genomic Evaluation by Next-gen Exome Sequencing, 2 (NCGENES 2)" study is part of a larger consortium project investigating the clinical utility, or net benefit of an intervention on patient and family well-being as well as diagnostic efficacy, management planning, and medical outcomes. A clinical trial will be implemented to compare (1) first-line exome sequencing to usual care and (2) participant pre-visit preparation to no pre-visit preparation. The study will use a randomized controlled design, with 2x2 factorial design, coupled with patient-reported outcomes and comprehensive clinical data collection addressing key outcomes, to determine the net impact of diagnostic results and secondary findings.

Screening for Hearing Loss After Childhood Cancer
Childhood CancerHearing LossThe HEAR-study pilots and evaluates a national, low-threshold screening program to detect hearing problems in Swiss adult childhood cancer survivors. Participants will conduct a hearing test in a local hearing aid shop and report about their experiences at the shop in questionnaires and interviews. The screening program will be evaluated using the RE-AIM framework.
