Evaluation of a Diagnostic Feature in a Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) Device

Congestive Heart Failure

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of a new sensor-based diagnostic feature, which has been implemented in a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) device. This trial will study the effectiveness of the diagnostic feature to detect heart failure events in medically stable, ICD-indicated, congestive heart failure patients.

Crestor Versus Placebo in Subjects With Heart Failure

Heart Failure

The purpose of the study is to investigate if rosuvastatin, added on top of all other medicines prescribed to subjects with symptomatic systolic heart failure, reduces the combined endpoint of cardiovascular death or non-fatal myocardial infarction or non-fatal stroke (time to first event)

Rapid Emergency Department Heart Failure Outpatient Trial (REDHOT II)

Heart Failure

The purpose of this study is to test whether physicians can make more informed treatment, admission, and discharge decisions related to patient care by having serial Triage® BNP test results available to assess disease severity, while patients are being treated for HF in the Emergency Department and/or during their admission. This is believed to lead to a better outcome as well as more efficient and cost-effective treatment.

An Efficacy and Safety Study for Nesiritide in Heart Failure Patients With Reduced Kidney Function...

Coronary Artery Bypass SurgeryCoronary Heart Disease5 more

The purpose of this study is to assess whether nesiritide compared to placebo when given with standard of care therapies, helps preserve kidney function in heart failure (HF) patients undergoing heart bypass graft surgery that requires the use of a cardiopulmonary bypass machine (CPB pump or heart-lung machine).

Outpatient Ultrafiltration Therapy in Heart Failure Patients Trial

Congestive Heart Failure

This trial will look at the effectiveness and patient acceptance of ultrafiltration therapy in an outpatient setting. The purpose of this study is to determine if ambulatory patients who suffer from heart failure and hypervolemia can be safely and effectively treated in an outpatient infusion clinic. The results from this trial will be useful in planning a larger, randomized trial comparing usual care and ultrafiltration for this patient population in similar ambulatory settings.

The Effect of Action Control Based Intervention on Adherence After Cardiac Rehabilitaiton

Heart Failure

This will be a pilot study of the effect of an Action Control-based intervention (ACBI) on adherence to prescribed diet and exercise programs after cardaic rehabilitation. The purposes of this study are to: determine if an ACBI has an effect on adherence to prescribed home exercise and diet regimens for individuals 6 weeks after participating in a cardiac rehabilitation program examine whether there is a difference in response to the ACBI between state-oriented individuals and action-oriented individuals. test the interaction effect between action-orientation disposition and the intervention.

NT-proBNP in Acute Dyspnea: Effects on Treatment, Hospitalisation and Costs

Heart FailureDyspnea

Diagnostic uncertainty in patients with complaints of shortness of breath presenting to the Emergency Department of a hospital may delay treatment and proper care. In patients with shortness of breath due to heart failure increased plasma levels of NT-pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) can be demonstrated. The use of NT-proBNP as a biomarker for heart failure in patients presenting to the emergency department with dyspnea might improve care and reduce length of hospital stay. To investigate the effect of NT-proBNP testing on patient care and time to discharge the NT-proBNP test will be randomized. In patients in the study group, the NT-proBNP plasma level is determined at admission and the physician in charge will immediately receive the result of the test. In patients in the control group blood will be sampled but the physician will recieve no information on the NT-proBNP plasma level. In our study we will investigate the effect of introduction of NT-proBNP as biomarker for heart failure on treatment, time to discharge and costs.

Add-on Effects of Valsartan on Morbi- Mortality (KYOTO HEART Study)

HypertensionIschemic Heart Disease2 more

The KYOTO HEART Study is to assess the add-on effect of valsartan, an Angiotensin-Receptor Blocker, on top of the conventional treatment in high risk patients in Japan with hypertension in terms of the morbidity and mortality.
