Procedures While Wearing CBRNe Protective Equipment

Cardiac ArrestPneumothorax1 more

Out-of-hospital care during Chemical-Biological-Radiological-Nuclear-explosive (CBRNe) events have recently evolved, but the available knowledge is still extremely partial. In particular, the debate is still ongoing regarding which life-saving maneuvers should be implemented in the pre-decontamination phase while wearing CBRNe personal protective equipment (PPE). The investigators hypothesized that PPE may lengthen the execution times and worsen the success rate of invasive and non-invasive procedures. This trial involves residents in emergency medicine and anesthesia/critical care of the University of Padova (Italy) with the following procedures performed on high-fidelity manikins, after being divided into two groups (wearing and not wearing PPE): positioning of peripheral venous access; intraosseous access; drug preparation and administration; tension pneumothorax (PNX) needle decompression; tourniquet positioning; chest compressions. The primary outcome was the chest compressions depth mean difference between the two groups. As secondary outcomes, the investigators measured differences between the two groups in: the percentages of correct release during chest compressions; chest compressions rate (beats per minute); and the times needed to complete the above-mentioned procedures (other than chest compressions). The investigators expect that PPE will reduce CPR quality or delay the completion of the procedures.

The Effect of Labor Induction With Oxytocin on Early Postpartum Hemorrhage, Perineal Integrity and...

Oxytocin

Aim: This study has been planned as an observational study. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of labor induction with oxytocin on early postpartum hemorrhage, perineal integrity and breastfeeding. Materials and Methods: The sample consists of 88 healthy mother and infant pairs. The mothers in the case group will receive oxytocin induction before and after delivery. On the other hand, the mothers in the control group will not receive any oxytocin induction before delivery, and will receive oxytocin induction in the end of delivery. Data were collected by using the Personal Information Form, the LATCH Breastfeeding Diagnostic Scale, the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale, the follow-up bag for postpartum hemorrhage, and episiotomy healing assessment known as the REEDA Scale.

Retinal Vessel Analysis (rGA) at the Patient Bed in the Context of Non-traumatic Subarachnoid Haemorrhage...

Non-traumatic Subarachnoid Haemorrhage

A subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs in about 10 out of 100,000 people each year. This bleeding leads to irritation and constriction of blood vessels in the brain (vasospasm) in two out of three people affected within four to 21 days and thus to reduced blood flow. This can lead to a stroke and serious damage. In order to be able to diagnose and treat a constriction of the blood vessels at an early stage, there are various examination methods which, however, have various disadvantages such as radiation exposure of the patient, low sensitivity or high effort. Therefore, the prediction and timely therapy of vascular constrictions is currently only successful in a few cases before the reduced blood flow has already led to irreversible damage. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the so-called retinal vascular analysis can be used in addition to previous standard examinations for the early detection of diseases of the cerebral blood circulation. This method has few side effects and has been successfully used for 50 years to examine the blood circulation in the eye.

Endoscopic Variceal Ligation in Children

Esophageal Varices in Cirrhosis of the LiverUpper Gastrointestinal Bleeding2 more

This is an ambispective single-center cohort study of pediatric patients with portal hypertension and esophageal varices. The study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of primary prophylaxis with endoscopic variceal ligation to prevent upper gastrointestinal bleeding compared to non-selected beta-blockers prophylaxis.

Screening for Bleeding Disorders in Children

Bleeding Disorder

The investigators try to improve the screening of bleeding disorders in children by identifying symptoms, laboratory abnormalities and clinical scores discriminating patients congenital bleeding disorders in order to create a simple screening algorithm applicable in pediatrics, aiming for use in pre-anesthetic consultation and in consultation by pediatricians and general practitioners.

Impact of Balanced Crystalloid and Colloid Infusion on Haemostasis in Healthy Male Volunteers

Perioperative HemorrhageDilutional Coagulopathy

The project focuses on perioperative bleeding that requires transfusion of blood products and supplementation of intravascular volume with crystalloids and colloids. The implemented fluid therapy affects coagulation and fibrinolysis, depending on the type of fluid used in an intravenous infusion. Massive haemorrhage significantly impacts the perioperative period and postoperative quality of life and requires individualized therapy, rending the ongoing project relevant from the perspective of the patients.

Effect of Rectal Misoprostol in Reducing Intra-operative Blood Loss During Myomectomy

Blood LossSurgical1 more

A total of 200 women for elective abdominal myomectomy were randomly allocated into two groups. 100 women in experimental group were administered 400ug Misoprostol (2 tablets of Prosotec®) through the rectal route prior to surgery and 100 were in control group, in which no drug was administered.

Validating a New Point-of-care Device for Estimation of Blood Count in Pregnant Women

Blood Loss

Postpartum hemorrhage is a well-known complication of delivery and the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. In developed nations, a complete blood count (CBC) is commonly collected as a means to assess or base treatment for blood loss. The Hemi device is a point-of-care device designed to provide hematocrit, followed by the stage of hemorrhagic shock using artificial intelligence algorithms. The ultimate goal of the product is to provide an accurate hematocrit from easily attainable samples such as vaginal blood during hemorrhage to remove yet another barrier to access for actively bleeding women. The purpose of this study is to compare the hematocrit of vaginal blood using the Hemi device with standard venipuncture.
