Laparascopic Keyhole vs Sugarbaker Repair in Parastomal Hernia

Parastomal Hernia

This is a non-randomised case-controlled prospective study of consecutive patients with parastomal hernia, comparing the laparoscopic Keyhole repair with the modified Sugarbaker repair.

Chronic Postoperative Pain After the Lichtenstein Groin Hernioplasty

HerniaInguinal6 more

The study attempts to quantify the relative risks for chronic postoperative inguinal pain (CPIP) after Lichtenstein repair of groin hernia, depending on mesh type and fixation suture material. For this purpose the investigators will analyze data from the Swedish Hernia Registry (SHR).

Chronic Postoperative Pain After Laparoscopic Groin Hernia Repair

Postoperative PainChronic Pain

The study attempts to quantify the relative risks for chronic postoperative inguinal pain (CPIP) depending on different combinations of mesh and mesh fixation. For this purpose the investigators will analyze data from the Swedish Hernia Registry (SHR).

Laparoscopy in Complicated Groin Hernia

Inguinal Hernia

This study assessed the outcomes of laparoscopic repair in complicated groin hernia. Laparoscopic approach in cases of complicated groin hernia can achieve desirable patient outcomes without major complications, provided good patient selection and expertise. This study provides an insight to the outcomes from the procedure in low resource setting of Nepal.

Muscular Endurance And Its Association With Neck Pain, Disability, Neck Awareness, And Kinesiophobia...

Cervical Disc Herniation

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of muscular endurance of the trunk, upper extremities, and scapular region as well as cervical region, with pain, neck awareness, and kinesiophobia in patients with cervical disc herniation. Thirty-six patients between 18-65 years with a diagnosis of cervical disc herniation and having neck pain of 2 and above at rest according to the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were included in the study. After the evaluation of musculoskeletal system, endurance tests were performed for 9 muscles/muscle groups in the cervical and scapular regions, upper limb, and trunk. Pain severity was measured by VAS and Neck Disability Index (NDI), neck awareness with Fremantle Neck Awareness Questionnaire (FreNAQ), and fear of movement with Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale (TKS).

Incarcerated Right Inguinal Hernia Containing Sigmoid Colon: An Unusual Case Report

Incarcerated Inguinal Hernia

Incarcerated inguinal hernia is an irreducible but the blood supply to the contained part is intact, but developing towards strangulation. Here the lumen of the portion of colon occupying a hernia sac is blocked with faeces.

Endostomal Three-dimensional Ultrasonography for Parastomal Hernia

Parastomal Hernia

The intention is to examine the role of ultrasonographic examination inside intestinal stomas in diagnosing parastomal hernia. Patients with a stoma since at least one year back who are being scheduled for abdominal surgery will be examined for eligibility according to the selection criteria. Included patients will undergo routine clinical examination, endostomal ultrasonography and computerized tomography scan of the abdomen. Findings will be correlated to findings during surgery (gold standard). Values for sensitivity, specificity, predictive values and likelihood ratio will be calculated.

Imaging Characteristics of Chronic Lumbar Disc Herniation From the Perspective of Core Muscles and...

Lumbar Disc Herniation

Fat infiltration and atrophy of lumbar muscles are related to spinal degenerative conditions, which can be seen reliably on MRI scans of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the degeneration of core muscles, obesity and chronic LDH. Fifty-five healthy volunteers and fifty-five chronic LDH patients (the course of the disease is more than six months) were enrolled. Core muscle percent fat and subcutaneous fat tissue thickness(SFTT) were used as the outcome measure, and logistic regression and independent samples t-test as the analytical methods to compare the relationship of the following five independent variables (erector spinae, rectus abdominis, [transversus abdominal, internal abdominal oblique, and external abdominal oblique muscle], lumbar multifidus, and psoas major muscles) and SFTT with LDH.
