Internal Hernias

The purpose of this study is to determine whether closure of all mesenteric defects with clips at the time of Gastric bypass, can avoid the complication of late bowel obstruction- internal hernias

Composix Kugel Mesh Recall Leaves Unresolved Problems of Patient Management

Incisional Hernia

From its introduction in 2000 until its US recall in December 2005, the Composix Kugel Mesh was implanted in an estimated 350,000 patients worldwide. The purpose of the study is to evaluate retrospectively the complications related to this mesh that occurred in our patients between 2003 and 2005, since new complications continue to be diagnosed, although the investigators discontinued the use of the mesh.

Intraperitoneal Mesh-Implementation After Laparotomy

Incisional Hernia

Aim of the study is to evaluate the risk reduction of intraperitoneal mesh-implementation after laparotomy (Group 1) in a randomized control trial compared with patients with standard abdominal closure (Everett-suture). This is the primary endpoint. Second endpoints are the feasibility of mesh-implementation even after colorectal surgery, find risk factors for wound infection and incisional hernia.

Use of a Mesh to Prevent Parastomal Hernia

Parastomal Hernia

Randomized, controlled, prospective study of 54 patients receiving surgery for cancer of the lower third of the rectum with a permanent end colostomy. The aim of the study was to reduce parastomal hernia (PH) occurrence by implanting a lightweight mesh in the sublay position. Patients were followed up a) clinically and b) radiologically by means of abdominal CT. In the clinical follow-up, hernias were observed in four out of 27 patients (14.8%) in the study group and in eleven out of 27 (40.7%) in the control group (p=0.03). The implantation of the mesh reduces the appearance of PH, is well tolerated, and does not increase morbidity

Prevention of Parastomal Hernia With a Mesh

Parastomal Hernia

Parastomal hernias are randomised to either a conventional stoma formed through the rectus anterior muscle or to the same procedure with the addition of a prophylactic mesh in a sublay position.

The Significance of the Mesh Thickness in the Operation of Inguinal Hernia

Inguinal Hernia

The trial compares the postoperative complain, pain, quality of life after the implantation of a heavy-weight alternative light-weight mesh, by randomly allocating patients with inguinal hernia disease to two groups of surgeons, each group being trained to operate with one of the above mentioned meshes. Hypothesis: There is less postoperative pain after the implantation of a light-weight mesh.

Trocar Site Hernia After Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Supra Versus Infraumbilical Incision for...

Incisional HerniaCholecystectomy1 more

Trocar site hernia is a specific complication of laparoscopic surgery. The increasingly frequent use of the laparoscopic approach has resulted in an increase in the number of hernias, mainly at the umbilical area. The appearance of a trocar site hernia can cause complications in the short and long term to the patient who may end up needing a reoperation. In this study we want to compare the supraumbilical versus the infraumbilical location of the laparoscopy entry trocar, in terms of incisional hernia incidence.
