Study of a Pandemic Influenza Vaccine in Children

Influenza

The World Health Organisation has warned that an influenza pandemic is inevitable. The avian influenza strain H5N1 is one of the leading candidates to cause the next influenza pandemic. Children are likely to be a special target group for vaccination; therefore, this study will test the safety and immunogenicity of an H5N1 pandemic influenza vaccine in healthy children.

Safety Study of Pandemic Candidate Influenza Vaccines in the Elderly Population

InfluenzaInfluenza Vaccines

Influenza pandemics are caused by viruses that possess an Hemagglutinin molecule to which most of the population lacks immunity. If such virus is pathogenic to human and demonstrates the ability to transmit from person to person, the result is a global outbreak of disease that affects a high percentage of individuals in a short period of time and is likely to cause substantially increased mortality and morbidity in all countries of the world. Recently, purely avian influenza viruses, including the H5N1, H9N2 and H7N7 subtypes, have been directly transmitted to humans, raising concern over the possibility of a new influenza pandemic among the world's immunologically naive populations. In order to face this kind of situation, a pandemic influenza vaccine has to be developed.

St. Jude Open Label H5 Trial

Influenza

The purpose of this study is to see how antibodies (proteins that fight infection) are made after you receive the new H5N1 flu vaccine. The new H5N1 vaccine will be given to 50 healthy adult lab workers, aged 18 years and older. Subjects will receive two 90mcg injections (shots in the arm) of the vaccine about 1 month apart. Subjects will maintain a memory aid to record oral temperature and any response to the vaccine for 7 days after each immunization. Subjects will be contacted by telephone 1 to 3 days after vaccination. They will return to the clinic on Day 7. Blood will be drawn before each vaccination and on Days 56 and 180. Subjects may be involved in the study for about 6 months. It is anticipated that the vaccine will provide safe protection against influenza H5N1.

Safety and Immunogenicity of a Inactivated Influenza Vaccine When Administered to Non Elderly Adults...

Influenza Disease

The purpose of this study is to evaluate safety and immunogenicity of a single intramuscular (IM) injection of a Surface Antigen, Inactivated, Influenza Vaccine, Formulation 2005-2006, when Administered to Non-Elderly Adults and Elderly Subjects

Immunogenicity of High-dose Inactivated, Split-virion Influenza Vaccine Versus Standard Fluzone...

Orthomyxoviridae InfectionInfluenza1 more

Compared to young adults, the elderly mount a lower antibody response to vaccination. Thus, improvement of the immune response to influenza vaccination in this age group, which is at higher risk for influenza-related morbidity and mortality, represents an important unmet need. Primary Objectives: Immunogenicity: To demonstrate lot consistency of the Fluzone High Dose (Fluzone HD) manufacturing process through evaluation of the immune responses elicited by three different lots. To demonstrate the superiority of Fluzone HD vaccine compared to standard-dose Fluzone® vaccine. Secondary Objectives: Immunogenicity: To describe the seroprotection of Fluzone HD compared to that of standard dose Fluzone® vaccine. Safety: To describe the safety profile of Fluzone HD, in terms of solicited -, unsolicited adverse and serious adverse events post-vaccination. To describe clinical information on some additional defined criteria during the six months following vaccination.

A Study of the Immunogenicity and Safety of the 2006-2007 Influenza Vaccine

InfluenzaOrthomyxoviridae Infections

This study is designed to generate clinical data as outlined in the Note for Guidance on harmonization requirements for influenza vaccine marketing authorization by the European Medicines Agency. The objectives of the trial are: To evaluate the compliance, in terms of immunogenicity, of the inactivated, split-virion influenza vaccine Northern Hemisphere 2006-2007 formulation with the requirements of the European Medicines Agency To describe the safety of the inactivated, split-virion influenza vaccine, Northern Hemisphere 2006-2007 formulation.

Safety of Hib-MenCY-TT Vaccine Versus Licensed Hib Conjugate Vaccine, Given at 2, 4, 6 and 12 to...

Haemophilus Influenzae Type bNeisseria Meningitidis

The primary phase of this study is evaluating the safety of Hib-MenCY-TT vaccine compared to a control group receiving licensed Hib conjugate vaccine, when each are co-administered with Pediarix® to healthy infants at 2, 4, and 6 months of age. This protocol posting deals with objectives & outcome measures of the primary phase of the study. The objectives & outcome measures of the Booster phase are presented in a separate protocol posting (NCT number = 00345683). The Protocol Posting has been updated in order to comply with the FDA Amendment Act, Sep 2007

Study of the Ability of a Flu Vaccine to Prevent Flu Infection

Influenza

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how effective the vaccine is at preventing subjects developing flu symptoms after they are directly exposed to flu virus. The study will also evaluate how well the vaccine is tolerated at sites where administrations are given, any effects it may have on subjects' wellbeing and whether it can produce antibody responses in the body

Safety Study of an Influenza Vaccine Against a Potential Pandemic Strain of Flu

Influenza (Pandemic)

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how well the vaccine is tolerated at sites where administrations are given, any effects it may have on subjects' wellbeing and whether it can produce antibody responses in the body that may protect against the subjects catching a pandemic strain of flu

Safety of and Immune Response to a Bird Flu Virus Vaccine (H5N1) in Healthy Adults

InfluenzaVirus Diseases

Avian influenza (AI), or bird flu, has recently become a major health concern in Asia and other parts of the world. The need for a vaccine to prevent the spread of AI among livestock and to humans is sorely needed. The purpose of this study is to test the safety of and immune response to a new AI vaccine in healthy adults.
