Effect of Ezetimibe on Platelet Aggregation and LDL Tendency to Peroxidation

Hypercholesterolemia

The aim of our study is to Estimate the reduction of LDL by ezetimibe in hypercholesterolemic patients on simvastatin.Investigate the effect of LDL lowering by ezetimibe on platelet activity and LDL tendency to peroxidation in hypercholesterolemic patients on simvastatin therapy The hypothesis is that: LDL lowering by ezetimibe on-top of simvastatin in patients on fixed dose of simvastatin can reduce platelet aggregation, due to the potential decreasing of cholesterol content in the platelet membranes. LDL lowering by ezetimibe can lower LDL tendency to peroxidation.

The Effect of BiosLife on Serum Lipids

Hypercholesterolemia

This is a double-blind, placebo-controlled study to assess the effectiveness of BiosLife in lowering serum LDL cholesterol and raising HDL cholesterol. BiosLife is a natural supplement (mixed in water and taken twice daily) which contains guar gum and other natural soluble fibers, phytosterols, policosanol, and a proprietary chrysanthemum extract. Approximately 100 subjects with baseline LDL cholesterol of 110-190 mg/dL will be randomized in a 2:1 ratio to BiosLife or a look-alike placebo. Changes in lipids from baseline will be assessed at 6 weeks and 12 weeks.

Efficacy of Cardioviva™ Probiotic Supplement Capsule Formulation

Hypercholesterolemia

Background: It is becoming increasingly clear that individuals from all corners of the globe use probiotic dietary approaches to enhance health. More recently, probiotics have shown promise in treating a variety of disease states, due to improved strain selection, stability and delivery technologies. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the lipid lowering efficacy of a probiotic supplement capsule containing Lactobacillus reuteri Cardioviva™, taken twice per day over 9 weeks, in subjects with hypercholesterolemia. Design: The study design is a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, randomized, parallel-arm, multi-centre study. The study will last a total of 13 weeks, including a 2-week wash-out period, a 2-week run-in period and a 9 week treatment period.

Low Carbohydrate Portfolio or "Eco-Atkins" Diet

HypercholesterolemiaCardiovascular Diseases

Exchange of the butter, eggs, cheese and meat in the Atkins diet for soy protein foods, other vegetable proteins including gluten and vegetable fats, nuts, avocado, olive and canola oil will result in dramatic rather than modest reductions in blood lipids with weight loss. In effect this will represent an exchange of saturated fat and animal protein for healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and vegetable proteins with significant effects on blood lipids while still encouraging weight loss.

Japan Assessment of Pitavastatin and Atorvastatin in Acute Coronary Syndrome (JAPAN-ACS)

Coronary DiseaseHypercholesterolemia

The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of pitavastatin and atorvastatin on coronary plaque volume in patients with acute coronary syndrome and to clarify the relationship between coronary plaque volume, serum lipids, and inflammation markers in order to determine the significance of intensive lipid lowering therapy in patients with acute coronary syndrome in Japan.
