The Effect of the Newborn Behavioral Observations System on Maternal Sensitivity
Mother-Infant InteractionThe study evaluates if the Newborn Behavioral Observation system, a relationship building tool, delivered to at risk mothers will have, on one site, an effect on maternal sensitivity and the other site on Childs responsiveness, measured by the Emotional Availability (EA) Scales at 4 months post partum.
Evaluation of the Effect of Fluoride and Laser Application on the Prevention of Sensitivity in Bleached...
Dentin SensitivityTo investigate the effects of desensitizing agents on the dental bleaching process, testing the hypothesis that they may prevent dental sensitivity.
Comparison Between spIgE and Skin Prick Test of Local and Imported Aeroallergens
Immediate HypersensitivityThe prevalence of Allergic rhinitis(AR) and asthma was increased world wide. In 1998, ISAAC found that prevalence of AR and asthma inThailand was in moderately high group. Tests for immediated reaction SPT and spIgE, were used for evaluated sensitization of allergen in patient. They guided the investigators for proper management as well as patient education. Clinician will use the result for choose allergen in case that might need immunotherapy. SPT is safe and more economic for patient. Specific IgE has an advantage in patient who cannot withhold antihistamine prior SPT. In United state had a trial of result between SPT and spIgE for cockroach, cat, house dust mite and mold. It showed the correlation between two tests. In Thailand, the investigators haven't had data about it yet.
A Study to Evaluate the Good and Bad Effects of BIBF1120 in Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients Who...
Small Cell Lung CancerPlatinum-sensitiveThis study is being done to evaluate the good and bad effects of BIBF1120 in recurrent, platinum-sensitive small cell lung cancer patients and to see if BIBF1120 may or may not be more effective and better tolerated than standard therapy. The purpose of this study is to: Find out the proportion of patients with their small small cell lung cancer controlled for at least 90 days after treatment with BIBF1120 Compare the response rate, survival and side effects of BIBF1120 in recurrent, platinum-sensitive small cell lung cancer patients Identify a group of patients who will benefit the most from BIBF1120 In this study, patients will receive BIBF1120 at 200 mg twice daily continuously. A cycle will be 21 days. During treatment, the dose of BIBF1120 will be held or reduced to lower doses if patients do not tolerate it well or if the doctors are concerned about the side effects of BIBF1120 on individual patients.
Effect of 10-day Overnight Hypoxia Treatment on Whole Body Insulin Sensitivity (SLEEP HIGH Study)...
Insulin ResistanceThe purpose of this study is to look at how a reduction in oxygen levels (hypoxia) influences insulin sensitivity and carbohydrate metabolism. It is expected that 10 nights of exposure to moderate hypoxia (~ 15% O2, similar to conditions at an altitude of ~7500 feet) will improve glucose metabolism.
Corneal Sensitivity Cross-linking Keratoconus
KeratoconusTo evaluate corneal sensitivity changes following corneal cross-linking (CXL) in patients with progressive lower stage keratoconus.
Allergy Immunotherapy in the Management of Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Eosinophilic EsophagitisEosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a disease that has increased in incidence over the past decade that affects males predominantly, and in adults, is characterized by heartburn, dysphagia, strictures and food impactions. These symptoms may require emergent endoscopic removal of foods and esophageal dilations due to remodeling causing significant impairment in quality of life. Treatment options are limited and often not well tolerated or effective. There is poor understanding of the natural history and long term prognosis. It has been associated with allergic sensitization; a high percentage of affected individuals having associated atopy and current literature demonstrates a seasonal distribution of incidence and severity of symptoms. Allergy immunotherapy (AIT) is a well established and effective treatment for allergic rhinitis and asthma which can induce tolerance to environmental allergens. Given the efficacy of AIT and the association of aeroallergen sensitization and even seasonal variation of EoE symptoms, we hypothesized that AIT may be a treatment option for patients with EoE.
Identification of Biomarkers Sensitive to Disease Progression in Patients With Mild Cognitive Impairment...
MILD COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENTTHE STUDY WILL BE A TWO-PART RESEARCH PART A and PART A extended: To implement a "common" MRI acquisition protocol in multiple centers across Europe (Pharma-COG partners). Apply the common MRI protocol on phantoms and human subjects to characterize, compare and minimize test-retest variability across the MR sites of WP5 for all the quantitative metrics that will be later assessed on patients. PART B: By collecting clinical, biochemical, neuroimaging, neuropsychological and neurophysiological data in Mild Cognitive Impairment patient, we aim to: To develop a biomarker MATRIX (made of a combination of biological secondary endpoints) which is more sensitive than the changes observed in the loss of hippocampal volume (primary endpoint) and correlate with the neuropsychological progression and conversion (clinical secondary endpoints). To develop a biomarker MATRIX (made of a combination of biological secondary endpoints) at baseline which is more predictive of the loss of hippocampal volume (primary endpoint) and neuropsychological progression (clinical secondary endpoint) in MCI patients. To harmonize the biomarker MATRIX collection and qualify multiple centres across Europe
Nasal Provocation Test With Lysine-Acetylsalicylate (ASA) in Patients With Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory...
Aspirin HypersensitivityNSAIDs HypersensitivityThis study aims to compare the efficacy of nasal provocation test with Lysine-Acetylsalicylate in patients with history of NSAIDs hypersensitivity between mucocutaneous symptoms and respiratory symptoms and laboratory outcomes.
Vitamin D, Glucose Control and Insulin Sensitivity in African-Americans
Type 2 DiabetesNorth American blacks tend to have low blood levels of vitamin D because pigmentation blocks vitamin D production in the skin. They also have higher rates of developing type 2 diabetes and higher rates of complications from the disease compared with whites. Although there is compelling evidence that adequate vitamin D may reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes in whites, recent evidence from a national survey demonstrated an association of vitamin D with diabetes in whites but not in blacks. However, the central hypothesis of this study is that providing enough supplemental vitamin D to blacks (raising their blood levels higher than that of most participants in the survey) will improve blood measures related to diabetes risk. The proposed study is a 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled experiment designed to examine the effect of vitamin D supplementation (100 μg/d ) on insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity and glucose control in pre-diabetic black men and women aged 40 and older.
