The Role of Daily Disposable Contact Lenses in Ocular Allergy

Grass Pollen Ocular Allergy

Patients with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis are normally advised to avoid contact lens wear when they are having symptoms. However, modern soft contact lenses which are disposed of daily offer the potential to protect and lubricate the ocular surface. This study examines this possible effect.

Allergy Immunotherapy for the Reduction of Asthma

WheezingAsthma1 more

In this clinical study we aim to determine the effect of allergy immunotherapy in decreasing asthma and allergy related disease in children who had multiple episodes of wheezing and who are at high risk for developing persisting asthma. These risks include a history of asthma in the parents, allergies to environmental allergens (such as dust mite, cockroach or mouse) and other allergic diseases such as eczema or food allergies. Allergy Immunotherapy is not new and has been practiced for many years to treat asthma and environmental allergies in older children and adults, but has not yet been systematically studied in young children.

NAET® Testing Devices in Detection of Hypersensitivity to Cane Sugar

AllergyFatigue3 more

Background: Studies have noted a correlation between food sensitivities and health disorders. Various commonly seen health problems may be caused by cane sugar since it is lavishly and frequently used by people worldwide. Objective: This study evaluated the efficacy of NAET testing instruments in detecting hypersensitivities to cane sugar. Materials and Methods: Seventy-four subjects volunteered for this study. They were asked to write down one of their major health problems, the amount of sugar consumed on a daily basis and any known health problem(s) related to sugar consumption. The following testing modalities were used in the study: (1). Allergy Symptom-Rating Scale (ASRS); (2). NST Rating Scale (NSTRS); (3). Pulse Difference Rating Scale (PDRS). Test-1 was done twice. Tests 2 and 3 were done three times each: once without contacting sugar and then contacting sugar at one minute and ten minutes.

A Phase I/II Dose Escalation Study of Intradermal gp160 to Evaluate Safety, Delayed Type Hypersensitivity...

HIV Infections

To determine the safety of intradermal gp160 in HIV seropositive individuals who are asymptomatic and have a relatively intact immune system. To determine whether there is evidence of a delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response (a "positive" skin test) in these patients, and also the dose of gp160 that elicits a delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response. Early immunity to HIV may play an important role in the long interval between virus infection and the onset of clinical disease. Immune responses have been demonstrated in HIV-infected individuals within weeks to months of infection. Although none of these responses has been shown to be protective, it is possible that boosting anti-HIV immune responses through immunization may slow the progression of HIV infection. DTH responses to HIV-derived recombinant envelope glycoprotein could provide a means of measuring an important immune function in infected patients, and serve as an easily measured surrogate marker of cellular immunity. In addition to eliciting local, cutaneous DTH responses, intradermal inoculation of skin test antigens may be immunogenic, resulting in new antibody production and cellular immune responses. This study allows direct comparison of gp160 administered intradermally with alum-adjuvanted intramuscular preparation with respect to immunogenicity in HIV seropositive patients.

Toxicity & Pharmacokinetics of 2 & 3-weekly Docetaxel in Metastatic Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer...

Metastatic Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer

This study is designed to investigate the toxicity and pharmacokinetics (PK) of 2-weekly and 3-weekly docetaxel in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). Also, a mechanism-based population pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) model will be developed to provide a better understanding of the complex relationships between the drug exposure and toxicity profiles of docetaxel in mHSPC.

Observatory on Cow's Milk Protein Allergy

Food Allergy

The purpose of this study is to describe the symptoms and their evolution up to the age of 5 years in a population of newly diagnosed infants with a suspected or confirmed allergy to cow proteins, for whom the doctor prescribed the Pepticate® Syneo® replacement formula as soon as they were diagnosed. The Pepticate® Syneo® product is an advanced protein hydrolyzate, food type intended for special medical purposes. This is a product already available on the market.
