Clinical Characteristics of Allergy, Autoimmune and Rheumatic Diseases: A Ten Year Retrospective...

The incidence and prevalence of the allergic, autoimmune and rheumatic diseases are different all over the world. The relative impact of gene and environment on diseases can be revealed by studies from different populations. National Health Insurance database in Taiwan provides a wealth of epidemiology study, which can contribute to the understanding of these diseases. However, national health care database did not contain test results and clinical details. The database of the hospital records can provide complimentary clinical details. Via the comparison of databases of the National health Institutes and the investigators hospital, the investigators hope that the characteristics and outcomes of these patients can be better understood.

Human thyroglobulin (Tg) is the most sensitive biochemical marker for recurrence of differentiated cancer (DTC), especially after the complete removal of thyroid tissue through surgery and radioiodine therapy (RIT). Unfortunately, current assays for measuring Tg in blood samples are not sensitive enough to reliably measure Tg while patients are under thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Instead patients have to withdraw thyroid hormone for several weeks or receive costly injections of recombinant thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in order to raise Tg production by thyroid remnant and/or thyroid cancer cells so that it can be measured by current Tg assays. Other patients have antibodies against Tg that interfere in current immunoassays. The purpose of the study was to characterize a new highly sensitive assay for measuring Tg in the serum in thyroid cancer patients both on thyroid hormone therapy and off therapy in comparison to the normal routine assay already in use at Münster University Hospital.

Some patients with high blood pressure can experience an increase of blood pressure by 10 percent or more by taking in salt. These patients are referred to as having "salt-sensitive" (SS) hypertension. Previous studies conducted on patients with salt sensitive hypertension suggest that their portion of the nervous system responsible for maintaining normal blood pressure (autonomic nervous system) may respond differently to salt than patients with non-salt sensitive (NSS) hypertension. This study is designed to examine the response of the nervous system to high doses of salt in patients with salt-sensitive hypertension and patients with non-salt sensitive hypertension.

Objective To investigate the status of food allergy among children aged 3 to 6 in Wenzhou and Taizhou urban areas. To obtain the self-reported rate of parents or guardians of food allergy among children aged 3 to 6 in Wenzhou and Taizhou urban areas. To obtain the prevalence of food allergy among children aged 3 to 6 in Wenzhou and Taizhou urban areas by conducting skin prick test (SPT), blood eosinophil (EOS) count, total immunoglobulin E (tIgE) measurement and serum specific IgE (sIgE) determination in children who self-reported food allergy, and conducting the open food challenge (OFC) if it is needed for further diagnosis. Methods The preschool children aged 3 to 6 from kindergartens in Wenzhou and Taizhou urban areas were selected by cluster sampling and random sampling to conduct a preliminary screening questionnaire. Then telephone interviewe the children who had diseases or problems caused by certain food or certain types of food. Make them finish further food allergy questionnaires, SPT, EOS, tIgE detection, sIgE detection. SPT has 17 kinds of food allergens including milk, egg white, egg yolk, shrimp, crab, wheat, mackerel, perch, cod, peanut, cashew nut, soybean, peach, pineapple, mango, orange and kiwifruit. sIgE has 10 kinds of food allergens including milk, egg white, shrimp, crab, soybean, peanut, wheat, nut mixed group and food mixed group. Children whose results of SPT and/or sIgE didn't meet the diagnostic criteria and children whose results of SPT and sIgE were negative but its history strongly supported food allergy need to conduct OFC. Descriptive analysis and risk factor analysis were carried out on the results, and SPSS 18.0 statistical software was used in statistics analyzation.

Today, we know that olfactogustatory alterations occur in cirrhotic patients before the liver transplant but no study has been conducted to show eventual disturbances after the transplantation able to explain modifications in eating behaviour. In parallel, the metabolic status, itself dependent on liver metabolism, influences food preferences and is modified after the transplantation as the liver recovers its ability to store glycogen, but is not able to inform the brain as the afferent nerve impulses have been suppressed. The innovative aspect of this project is to provide information on the importance of the liver in the regulation of energy homeostasis. The results of this study will improve our understanding of eating behaviour and olfactogustatory sensitivity and allow us to orient liver transplant patients towards appropriate diets.

We assume that under the influence of t peripheral magnetic stimulation, both the subjective state of patients assessed by standardized questionnaires and a urination diary, as well as the objective parameters, assessed by non-invasive urodynamic studies, will be improved. This study will use standard protocols built into the BTL Emsella magnetic stimulator.

Cow's milk allergy (CMA) is the most common Food Allergy (FA) in children, and the essential strategy in prevention is avoiding the allergens that may cause potentially life-threatening reactions. The primary developmental task of early childhood is the creation of healthy eating habits. The diagnosis of FA in this period can lead to permanent changes in the life of the child and her family. In early childhood, parents are often responsible for all aspects of FA management because children are too young to understand the complexity of avoiding allergens. Children often do not have the skills to implement FA management. Parents are advised to follow a special weaning diet, avoiding any type of cow's milk, usually at least 1 year old. However, depending on the clinical improvement, it can be recommended to continue this exclusion diet for much longer. Thus, many children have to exclude a large group of food from their diets, which is critical for their growth, development, and eating habits. This may raise mealtime behavioral anxiety in a child with a FA. Eating behavioral anxieties are also very common in healthy, typically developing children. Even 25% to 45% of normally developing children's parents report concerns about their child's nutritional and mealtime behaviors, including the destructive child behaviors (eg., refusal of foods, food selectivity, and getting off the table). In children with food allergies, monitoring long-term growth after the diet is another important issue. Growth problems were reported in 21% of children with FA diagnosed with malnutrition. Most studies focused on the effect of changes in eating behavior on growth during an elimination diet or in short term intervals. Its long-term effects have only been analyzed in a few studies. We aimed to investigate the eating behaviors, nutritional status, and growth of young children (ages of 2 to 6) who had a strict diet due to CMA in early childhood (ages of 0-2).

Hypoallergenicity To Substitutive Formulas In Children With Cow's Milk Allergy

Cow's Milk Allergy

The management of children with confirmed cow's milk allergy is based on complete avoidance of cow's milk proteins and leaves the physician with several dietary options, none of which, given the prevalence, spectrum and potential seriousness of the condition, can be recommended to all patients. In the absence of an alternative to cow's milk, the management of cow's milk allergy is based on the use of safe, affordable and nutritionally adequate formulas. Extensively hydrolyzed cow's milk protein formulas, which are considered as safe for most children with cow's milk allergy, are still liable to contain residual peptides, and hypersensitivity reactions may occur in infants allergic to cow's milk protein. Thus, specific product allergenicity must be addressed on an individual basis before recommending a formula as a substitute for cow's milk. Soy-based formula can also concomitant sensitize cow's milk allergy children to soy. Amino acid-based formulas have been studied from safety and nutritional efficacy perspectives. These formulas have been proposed for subjects highly sensitive to cow's milk protein and that cannot be managed using extensively hydolyzed formula and for children with multiple food allergies. In these conditions aminoacid based formulas are able to effectively cure allergic symptoms and to improve body growth.
