Relationship of Essential Hypertension and Its Treatments on the Postoperative Pain Management:...

Hypertension

Numbers of postoperative PCA related side effects among three groups will be determined by comparing and analyzing frequency distributions. To determine whether the patients with hypertension require less post operative opiate analgesics than others, multivariate analysis with repeated measures will be performed to identify the major and the minor factors predicting the use of postoperative pain therapy. The major aim of the study is to test the hypothesis that the morphine comsumpted by the hypertension group is less than those of the normotension group. The minor aims for the study are the difference related to pain intensity, or the incidence of side effects among groups.

Cardiovascular Risk Factors After Renal Transplantation in Children and Adults

Exercise CapacityPhysical Activity3 more

Renal transplantation of children started in Norway in 1970.Since the beginning, >80% of renal transplants are provided from Living Donors(mainly parents), short pre-transplant dialysis time( median 4 months) and 50% of transplantations are performed before dialysis is needed. This gives good premises for graft survival and avoidance of detrimental effects of dialysis. However, renal transplanted children are subjected to an increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in adulthood due to consequences of chronic renal failure and immunosuppressive treatment.Cardiovascular death comprises 30-40% of death causes. In this cross-sectional study we evaluate cardiovascular risk factors in childhood- and also in young adults renal transplanted in childhood. Focus is cardiorespiratory fitness using treadmill testing,24h BP measurements, anthropometrics including waist circumference, echocardiography, intima media thickness of carotids, glucose intolerance test.Participants are also requested to fill out physical activity recalls and Quality of life questionnaires.

Initial Evaluation of Telehealth Blood Pressure Stations in Nutrition Centers

Hypertension

The purpose of TEAhM is to determine if telehealth blood pressure stations can be installed and used in senior nutrition centers and to do a preliminary comparison of blood pressure outcomes among nutrition center clients who use the telehealth blood pressure stations compared to participants who do not use the stations. Specifically, the goals of the project are to determine if these monitors can be successfully implemented in this community-based setting, the degree to which older adults with hypertension are comfortable using the technology, and whether remote nurse monitoring of blood pressure using this technology is a feasible supplement to office-based care.

Compliance of Antihypertensive Treatment Study (CAT Study)

Hypertension

Study Rational: In general, chronic disease without symptoms such as hypertension, the treatment compliance is relative low and is difficult to increase. The low compliance is related to poor prognosis. There are many factors that effect to compliance of antihypertensive drug. Education is one factor that can be controlled by doctors. Therefore, in this study, the compliance of the patients in 3 groups of active training group, passive training group, and no training group (usual treatment group) will be compared to evaluate the effect of training for controlling of hypertension.

Effect Baroreflex Activation Therapy on the Carotid Body

Hypertension Resistant To Conventional TherapyBaroreflex1 more

Carotid baroreflex activation therapy (BAT) by the Rheos® system produces a sustained fall in blood pressure in patients with resistant hypertension. Since the activation electrodes are implanted at the level of the carotid sinus, it is conceivable that the nearby located carotid body chemoreceptors are stimulated as well. Physiological stimulation of carotid chemoreceptors not only raises respiration, but it also increases sympathetic activity which may in part counteract the effects of BAT. The aim of the present study is to investigate whether there is evidence for concomitant carotid chemoreflex activation during BAT. We hypothesized that there is no clinically relevant co-activation of the carotid body chemoreceptors during BAT in patients with resistant hypertension.

Perioperative Baroreflex Sensitivity

HypertensionHemodynamic Instability1 more

Impaired baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) is a marker of autonomous dysfunction, which may play an important role in the long-term development of hypertension. Perioperative patients with hypertension is rapidly growing in all populations worldwide. However, no study has reported the values of BRS in this cohort. The aim of this study was to estimate the value of BRS for hypertension in a surgery cohort.

Follow-up Study of Complications of Acute Pancreatitis

PancreatitisPancreatic Neoplasms5 more

This is a follow-up study focusing on long-term complications of acute pancreatitis. The primary purposes include: 1. To assess the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus(2-DM),impaired glucose tolerance, metabolic abnormalities of blood lipids after acute pancreatitis. 2. To observe the possible long-term clinical outcomes after acute pancreatitis attack, which may include: chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, pancreatogenic portal hypertension, autoimmune pancreatitis et al. 3. To evaluate the long-term influence of acute lung injury(PaO2/FiO2<200,FiO2 means fraction of inspiration O2) in AP patients during ICU stay on life qualities of the patients; 4. To observe the prognosis of the local complications of acute pancreatitis(AP) patients; it might be helpful to find the most effective and targeted interventions aiming at different phases after AP attack.
