Survey of Testosterone Levels in Male Cancer Patients

Hypogonadism

The purpose of this study is to survey the total serum testosterone levels in male patients with hormone-independent malignancies. The prevalence of hypogonadism is not known, but is thought to be significant. Results will be adjusted for age and stratified for type of cancer, stage, study site,and presence of opiate use for pain management, which is known to reduce testosterone levels.

Phlebotomy Study of Testosterone Undecanoate

Hypogonadism

An open-label, single oral TU dose study was conducted in eight (8) hypogonadal men at a single study site. Each study participant received a single oral TU dose immediately prior to a standardized breakfast meal comprised of 800 to 1000 calories and approximately 30 g of fat. Blood samples were collected 30 minutes prior dose administration and at 0 pre-dose and post dose at the following hours post-dose; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 hours.

Bone Density and Serum Testosterone in Male Methadone Maintained Patients

This is a pilot study designed to answer the question " Do men who are receiving methadone maintenance therapy have lower spinal bone densities compared with age-matched controls who are not receiving methadone therapy?" The primary aim is to assess whether the mean or median spinal dual-ray energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan results are different between these two groups of male patients. Primary measurements include: spinal bone densitometry by DEXA scan. The secondary aim is to examine the role of sex steroids in men receiving methadone maintenance therapy and their association with spinal bone density and sexual dysfunction. Secondary measurements include: serum testosterone, estradiol, lutenizing hormone, albumin, sex hormone binding globulin and Vitamin D levels; age; Brief Sexual Function Inventory; Dietary, smoking/alcohol use and physical activity; Medical history, surgical and medication use; length of time using illicit opiates and time on methadone maintenance therapy.

Quality of Life With TESTIM®

Hypogonadism

The present non-interventional study is to document the testosterone levels in patients with clinical symptoms such as loss of sexual desire indicating hypogonadism (testosterone deficiency syndrome). During testosterone replacement therapy with TESTIM®, the changes in the quality of life - especially with respect to motivation, activity and fatigue - of hypogonadal patients will be documented and correlated with the testosterone levels during the course of therapy.

Hypogonadism

With advancing age testosterone levels decline in men. Low testosterone levels plus certain symptoms are called "Late Onset Hypogonadism (LOH)". Adipose tissue may contribute to testosterone deficiency. On the other hand testosterone deficiency again leads to a decrease in lean body mass and an increase in fat mass - one of the clinical signs / symptoms of LOH. Lifestyle changes (diet, exercise) alone or in combination with testosterone replacement (TRT), have an influence on the symptoms of LOH. The aim of this study is to assess the additional impact of TRT on Aging Male Symptom Score (AMS) and adiposity (waist circumference) in patients, who are on a diet and exercise program.
