Additive Effect of Endonase on Eradication Rate of Second Line Therapy for HP Infection

Helicobacter Pylori Infection

Endonase, a kind of protease, is known to cause both extensive degradation of mucins and a reduction in mucus viscosity. As part of the search for more effective forms of therapy against H. pylori when it colonizes not only the surface of the surface mucosal cells but also the surface mucous gel layer covering the mucosal surface of the stomach. The investigators decided to investigate whether or not endonase might have additive effect of pronase on the efficacy of the second-line eradication therapy against Helicobacter pylori.

Study of Daptomycin Safety and Efficacy for Complicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections (cSSSI)...

Complicated Skin and Skin Structure InfectionsS. Aureus Bacteremia1 more

This is a multicenter, randomized, evaluator-blinded, comparator-controlled study. Participants were to be randomized (1:1) to daptomycin or comparator, stratified by degree of renal impairment (creatinine clearance [CLcr] 30 - 50 milliliters per minute [mL/min] [moderate impairment] and <30 mL/min [severe impairment]) and by type of infection (bacteremia and complicated skin and skin structure infections [cSSSI]) to create 4 cohorts defined as follows: Cohort 1: Bacteremia and CLcr <30 mL/min Cohort 2: Bacteremia and CLcr 30 - 50 mL/min Cohort 3: cSSSI and CLcr <30 mL/min Cohort 4: cSSSI and CLcr 30 - 50 mL/min Participants will be treated and evaluated for safety and microbiological and clinical efficacy in accordance with their type of infection and degree of renal impairment. Peak and trough samples will be collected to assess exposure to daptomycin for participants on Day 1 and following the 5th dose.

Diabetic Foot Infection Antibiotic Study

Diabetic Foot Infections

This is a pilot study to explore the effects of long-course versus short course antibiotics on wound healing in surgically managed diabetic foot infections. Hypothesis: Diabetic Foot Infections (DFIs) are best managed with an early aggressive surgical approach and short term antibiotic use. Post-operative prolonged antibiotic use increases costs and resource utilization without improving outcomes.

A Novel Formulation of Pasteurized Maple Cough Syrup Compared With Placebo on Nocturnal Cough and...

CoughUpper Respiratory Infection1 more

Cough is a frequent symptom in children and infants and is one of the most common reasons parents visit a healthcare provider for their child. The US Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning that over-the-counter cough and cold medicines including antihistamines, decongestants, anti-tussives, and expectorants should not be administered to children younger than 2 years of age due not only to lack of proven efficacy, but also because of important safety concerns. A product that has been used in alternative medicine for cough is maple syrup. Although no studies have formally evaluated the use of maple syrup for nocturnal cough associated with URI, the demulcent effect of maple syrup may provide some relief from cough in children. A novel formulation of pasteurized maple cough syrup, when compared to placebo, should provide superior relief on nocturnal cough and the sleep difficulty associated with URI in children under 12 months and sleep difficulty of their parent/caregiver.

Safety and Efficacity of Corneal Collagen Crosslinking in Infectious Keratitis (Bacterial and Fungal...

Bacterial KeratitisFungal Keratitis

The corneal collagen cross linking is currently used in the treatment of keratoconus but this procedure has also a sterilizing non-specific effect on bacteria and fungus. So the corneal cross linking in association with the antibiotic treatment could result in a reduction of the duration of epithelial complete healing of the cornea.

A Study of FG-3019 in Subjects With Liver Fibrosis Due to Chronic Hepatitis B Infection

Liver Fibrosis Due to Chronic Hepatitis B Infection

The overall goal of this trial is to evaluate the efficacy of FG-3019 for reversing liver fibrosis in subjects with chronic hepatitis B infection who are beginning antiviral therapy with entecavir. This Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled study will enroll subjects with chronic active hepatitis B infection and liver fibrosis (Ishak score ≥2) who are eligible for antiviral therapy.

MK-0518 Intensification And HDAC Inhibition In Depletion Of Resting CD4+ T Cell HIV Infection

HIV Infections

The purpose of this research study is to see if HIV that persists despite current antiviral therapy can be targeted by new treatments. We will see if adding Raltegravir (MK-0518) and Valproic acid (VPA) to current ART can decrease the amount of latent HIV.
