IgM-Enriched Immunoglobulin for Neonatal Sepsis
Neonatal SepsisEarly-Onset5 moreThis study compares giving prophylactic IgM enriched Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) with placebo in 1 hour after birth, in neonates with risk factors of Early-Onset Neonatal Sepsis (EONS). In addition to the intervention, standard regimen antibiotics are also given within 1 hour. The IVIG is given for 3 days and primary and secondary outcomes will be collected. Risk factors are both from maternal and neonate origin.
Glycemic Control on Coronary Inflammation Evaluated by FAI in ACS
Inflammation VascularThis study aimed to clarify the relationship between blood glucose control and the FAI based pericoronary inflammation in low-risk ACS patients with or without diabetes. The results of this study are expected to provide evidence that quantitative assessment of pericoronary FAI helps monitor the local inflammatory activation in diabetic patients with poor glycemic control, therefore, pericoronary FAI evaluation, as a noninvasive imaging biomarker, plays an important role in early detecting coronary atherosclerosis risk in diabetes and allow timely providing appropriate risk reduction strategies in patients at high risk for future cardiovascular events.
Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) and Platelet to Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR) as an Inflammatory Markers...
InflammationHospital Stay1 moreDue to short hospital stay, rapid return to work, less pain, and good cosmetic results, laparoscopic hysterectomy ( LH) has substantially increased the era of hysterectomy procedures especially for the last two decades. The main reason for this is probably that LH leads to fewer inflammatory responses when compared to open abdominal hysterectomy. Although the inflammatory response is supposed to be lower with total laparoscopic hysteroscopy (TLH), unpredictable inflammatory response as a result of the operation has been still unenlightened and it can be associated with hospital stay.
Analysis of Imaging Features From Patients Treated With Brolucizumab in the Post-marketing Setting...
Intraocular InflammationRetinal Vascular OcclusionThis non-interventional descriptive study was undertaken to better understand the most common imaging features associated with inflammation arising in the post-marketing setting when brolucizumab was prescribed in routine clinical practice.
Channa Striatus Extract on Albumin and Hs-CRP ESRD
End-Stage Renal DiseaseInflammationThis study is a randomised, double blind, placebo-controlled study in patients with ESRD on HD or CAPD based RRTs at Moewardi General Hospital in Surakarta, Indonesia from January to March 2021. Subjects were randomized to either a Channa striata or a placebo group and were given a three times daily dosage of 500 mg of Channa striatus extract or 500 mg maltodextrin, respectively for 21 days. Serum albumin and hs-CRP were measured at the baseline, and at the end of the study
Brazil ICU Encephalitis Surveillance
EncephalitisCentral Nervous System Infections and Inflammations4 moreOur proposal is to develop a sentinel syndromic surveillance strategy to identify encephalitis cases possibly related to emerging pathogens admitted to ICUs in Brazil. "Sentinel" to allow a diagnostic intensive approach on a smaller number of cases, "syndromic" to guarantee a sensitive criterion to include new or unexpected pathogens, and in ICUs to prioritize potentially severe threats. In a resource-limited setting it won't be possible to monitor and investigate all cases of encephalitis, so a cost-effective algorithm for early identification of the cases that are most likely to be caused by unusual, unexpected or emerging pathogens must be developed. As universal surveillance of encephalitis is not recommended in Brazil, data on incidence, causes and prognosis is not available, leaving a gap in the understanding of the epidemiology of this central nervous system disease in the country. This study will review cases of encephalitis admitted in the last five years to ICUs in a large metropolitan area. Its results will help understand the epidemiology of encephalitis in Brazil and will provide data to build a strategy for early identification of outbreaks and of emerging infectious diseases.
Health Effects of Traditional Indigenous Chokeberry
InflammationMental Health Wellness 11 moreAmerican Indian populations continue to suffer disproportionately from health problems including such nutrition-related chronic diseases as diabetes and heart disease. This research project will therefore investigate how a traditional Indigenous food called chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) impacts epigenetic and metabolic health in relation to resiliency markers in American Indian participants. The process of research with American Indian communities is significant in that it can inform best practices in community engagement orientations, approaches, and models in future research settings.
Platelets in Cystic Fibrosis Lung Inflammation
Platelet Levels and Mean Platelet Volume in Patients With CFCystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic multiorgan disorder caused by mutations in the CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator) gene. Chronic airway infection by bacterial pathogens accounts for the progressive, suppurative pulmonary disease that leads to significant morbidity and mortality in patients with CF. Neutrophil recruitment to the lungs accounts the most important contributor to pulmonary destruction. However, there is evidence that platelets may also have an important role in the pathogenesis of inflammation. To our knowledge, there is few information in platelet levels in patients with cystic fibrosis during pulmonary exacerbation, chronic airway colonization and when stable.
Impact of PCOS on Periodontal Status of Adolescent and Adult Age Group Women
Polycystic Ovary SyndromeGingival InflammationPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy in women, primarily affecting the reproductive system, with substantial collateral negative health effects on metabolic, psychological, and cardiovascular functions. Patients with this syndrome are at higher risk of developing insulin resistance (IR), obesity, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and endometrial carcinoma.IR and hyperinsulinemia are responsible for the low-grade chronic systemic inflammation. Periodontitis, an immuno-inflammatory disease, is a result of interaction between bacterial attack and host inflammatory response, causing inflammation of supporting tissues of the teeth leading to tissue destruction and tooth loss. Chronic low-grade inflammation is emerging as a plausible etiologic mechanism linking periodontal disease and many systemic diseases. Previous cross-sectional studies described a possible relationship between PCOS and periodontitis and the impact of PCOS on gingival inflammation and vice-versa in terms of increased inflammatory markers (hsCRP, IL-6, IL-17 and TNF-α). In PCOS females, there is an alteration of various hormone levels in the body. Female sex steroid hormones play a key role in periodontal disease progression and periodontal and implant wound healing. Human gingiva has the capacity to metabolize hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. Moreover, gingival tissue exhibits receptors for such hormones and it is considered as a target organ for their direct action. These hormones might act on gingival cells by changing the effectiveness of the epithelial barrier to bacterial injury or by affecting the collagen maintenance and repair. To avoid periodontal implications as these hormonal changes can worsen the vulnerability to plaque-induced periodontal disease. So, present study is going to conduct in females with PCOS and periodontitis at different age groups like adolescent and adult age groups. AIM - Assessment of impact of polycystic ovary syndrome on periodontal status of women of adolescent and adult age groups.
Oral and Systemic aMMP-8 in Periodontal Disease
Periodontal DiseasesPeriodontal InflammationPeriodontal disease is an inflammatory process that can result in tooth loss and also is considered a modifying factor for systemic health. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-8 is the major collagenase of periodontal tissue breakdown. The aim of the present study is to analyze active (aMMP-8) levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), saliva and serum in the context of new criteria of gingivitis and stage 3 grade C periodontitis.
