Burn InjuryThe main aim of this intervention study is to test the hypothesis if school based educational intervention program will significantly improve the knowledge of primary school student on childhood burn prevention in Kuala Lumpur. The secondary aim the evaluate the association of demographics background, burn injury history with knowledge on burn. The study was conducted in 12 primary school in Kuala Lumpur from 1st January 2015 to 31st December 2017 in three different phases.

By longitudinally surveying patients, we can identify risk factors and pathways to nonmedical opioid use. Furthermore, by assessing whether pain management and mental health treatment after injury moderates sustained opioid use and prescription opioid misuse, we can create targeted interventions to reduce future nonmedical opioid use in adolescents.

Severe Traumatic Brain InjuryTertiary lesions responsible of the neurological decline after severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) are partially due to a persistent neuro-inflammation directly modulated by inflammatory mediators during the acute phase and detectable by using both multimodal MRI imaging and biological biomarkers during the acute phase after traumatic brain injury. The main objective is to identify if the level of IL-1beta in cerebrospinal fluid predict in a reliable and reproducible way, the neuro-radiological evolution evaluated by the comparison of a quantitative MRI performed in post-resuscitation and at one year (quantitative ΔIRM) in traumatic brain injuried patients. The secondary objectives are: To understand the links between the acute and chronic neuro-inflammatory phase in a population of TBI, To explore the contribution of the adaptive immune response in the persistent activation of the immune response, To Examine the links between persistent neuroinflammation, clinical deterioration and neuroimaging, To establish a correlation between the pathology and the physio-pathology of TBI.

Outcome for Patients With War-Associated Extremity Wound Infection
Wounds and InjuriesExtremity wounds and fractures constitute the majority of war-associated traumatic injuries, both for civilians and combatants. War-associated injuries are often contaminated with foreign material, leading to infection. Wound infections is considered a major risk to life and restoration of function in war-wounded patients surviving past the first hours. In a cohort study the investigators aim to assess whether the infection itself affects patient outcome (i.e. amputation, death) when comparing patients with and patients without infection.

Shoulder InjuriesShoulder injuries are usual in volleyball players. Nowadays, few prospective studies assessed risk factors of shoulder injuries in this sport. So, the objective of this study is to assess the risk factors of injuries in youth volleyball players. For that purpose, the following factors will be taken into consideration : shoulder internal/external rotators strength, shoulder range of motion, scapular dyskinesis, functional tests (medicine ball throw and upper quarter Y balance test), training load and psychosocial factors (POMS questionnaire).
The Use of Ultrasound in Establishing COVID-19 Infection as Part of a Trauma Evaluation
COVIDTrauma1 moreThe current COVID-19 pandemic is providing healthcare organizations with considerable challenges and opportunities for rapid cycle improvement efforts, in diagnostic and patient management arenas. Healthcare providers are tasked with limiting the use of personal protective equipment while minimizing unnecessary exposures to the virus. Results from real-time PCR tests to detect active COVID-19 infections may not be available in a timely fashion during emergent trauma assessments. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a rapidly expanding body of literature has identified a pattern of imaged lung abnormalities with CT and ultrasound (US) characteristic of an active viral infection. US evaluation provides a reliable, portable, and reproducible way of evaluating acute patients in a real time setting. During initial trauma evaluations, patients may also receive adjunct imaging modalities like the Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (FAST) exam designed to discover life threatening findings that may require urgent interventions. We therefore propose a study expanding on the current FAST adjunct evaluation in the trauma bay that may include lung parenchyma imaging at the initial assessment to help stratify patients into low or high-risk groups for active COVID-19 infections. We believe the use of point of care US in the initial assessment of the trauma patient may help identify potentially infected individuals and aid ED providers to best directing subsequent laboratory and imaging evaluations for these patients, while further directing the necessary protective measures for additional team members involved in the care of the injured patient.
