Cognitive and Psychosocial Outcome After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
Mild Traumatic Brain InjuryPatients with traumatic brain injury are likely to present with cognitive, psychological, emotional and behavioral problems during different periods, all of which affect patients' life quality seriously. The aim of this study was to assess cognitive and psychosocial outcome in patients with mild traumatic brain injury, and to determine the risk factors associated with cognitive and psychological outcome. Mini-mental state examination (MMSE), activities of daily living scale (ADL), the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS) and mental health symptom checklist (SCL-90) were used to assess the cognitive performance and psychological outcomes in 360 patients with mild traumatic brain injury. Chi-square, Fisher's exact tests and Logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the risk factors.

Wounds and Injuries50 patients with non healing wounds will undergo biopsy to conclude wether there is an occult etiology for the wound.
Transfusion-Associated Microchimerism in Individuals Receiving a Blood Transfusion After a Traumatic...
ChimerismBlood Transfusion1 moreIndividuals who experience a traumatic injury often have a significant amount of blood loss and may require a blood transfusion. In some individuals who receive a blood transfusion, white blood cells from the donor's blood may remain in the body for years, a condition known as microchimerism. This study will examine the reasons why microchimerism occurs in some blood transfusion recipients and not others.
suPAR in the Early Diagnosis of Acute Kidney Injury(AKI) After On-Pump Cardiac Surgery
Acute Kidney InjuryAcute Kidney Injury(AKI) is of the serious complications in patients with undergoing on-pump cardiac surgery. End stage kidney failure requiring dialysis therapy after cardiac surgery is associated with more than 60% mortality rate. Involvement of AKI after on-pump cardiac surgery increases the mortality rate 19 times. suPAR is one of the novel biomarker which has potential prognostic value for renal dysfunction in patients with undergoing on-pump cardiac surgery. Early diagnosis and prompt intervention to prevent AKI has great importance for management of postoperative cardiac patients.
Timing and Intensity of the Exposures and Attributable Burden of Acute Lung Injury
Acute Lung InjuryAcute Respiratory Distress SyndromeThe purpose of the study is to identify the patients at high risk of developing Acute Lung Injury (ALI) at the time of hospital admission, and before intensive care unit admission. Aim 1- To validate the prediction model (Lung Injury Prediction Score) in a population based sample of hospitalized patients. Aim 2- To determine the significance of health-care related ALI risk modifiers in a population based sample. Aim 3- To compare the short and long term outcomes between patients at high risk who do, and do not develop ALI.
Evaluating Validity of Clinical Criteria for Requesting Chest X-Rays in Trauma Patients
Chest TraumaThe purpose of this study is to identify the clinical criteria for requesting a chest x-ray in a patient with blunt trauma and its findings such as clinical signs with a high sensitivity could be used in a larger study to codify the final criteria.
Injury Incidence in Professional Soccer
InjuryThe winter break within the German Professional Football Leagues will be shortened as for the season 2009/2010 from 6.5 to 3.5 weeks. That might have repercussions on injury incidence in either way, positive or negative. On the one hand, recovery time during the winter will be shorter, which might lead to an increased risk of injury. On the other hand, it will allow a better spread of games in the second round, thus reducing the amount of the so-called "English weeks", which in turn could reduce the number of injuries. This study compares injury incidence between the season 2008/2009 (long winter break) and the season 2009/2010(short winter break) via questionnaires in accordance with UEFA/FIFA injury evaluation criteria.
Collection of Samples for the Evaluation of Wound Biofilm in Acute and Chronic Wounds
WoundsThe Specific Aim of examining wounds microscopically is to attempt to demonstrate the presence of biofilm in chronic wounds and to understand these populations on a cellular level.
