Early Prediction of Acute Kidney Injury in High Risk Patients After Non-cardiac Surgery

Acute Kidney Injury

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication after non-cardiac surgery with adverse short and long term morbidity and mortality. So far there have been no effective therapy for AKI treatment developed, possibly due to the heterogenicity of this syndrome. Therefore, prevention of AKI in high risk patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery, as emphasized by Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO), becomes the first priority. However, early prediction of AKI is the first step before taking preventive measures, which really make a great challenge to clinical practitioners because of such a limited time window and complex clinical scenarios. Recently, cumulative evidence have shown that biomarkers and renal ultrasound may play an important role in AKI prediction after non-cardiac surgery. The purpose of this study is to investigate the combination of biomarkers, urine sedimentation and renal resistive index for early prediction of AKI in high risk patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery.

Acute Mental Stress During Lumbar Puncture

StressEmotional4 more

This study explores lumbar puncture operators stress associated with their performance of the procedure, across three experience levels: Experts, Intermediates, and Novices. The study will investigate the association of this potential stress to patient experienced stress and patient related outcomes of the lumbar puncture procedure.

Hypnosis and Direct Autonomic Experience Influence on Chronic Symptoms

Restless Legs SyndromeMultiple Sclerosis4 more

Study will look at a limited number of participants with various chronic symptoms. Investigating a new and novel form of hypnosis application called "Direct Autonomic Experience (DAX)" which is using combination of visualization, metaphor, post-hypnotic suggestion and anchoring. Purpose is to confirm that DAX generally appears to impact SUDS value and subjects report observed level of effect on short and longer term measurements. Most significantly, testing that DAX technique/action is reusable later if the measured SUDS value returns or increases.

A Prospective Cohort Study on Drug-induced Liver Injury in China(DILI-P)

Drug-induced Liver Injury

This is a multi-center, prospective, non-interventional cohort study . Its primary objectives are: assess DILI patients' clinical characteristics, disease progression and influencing factors in clinical practice; learn about suspected drug caused DILI,rechallenging, liver biochemical abnormalities mode, etc.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) in Evaluating Cerebral Glucose Metabolism and Functional Change...

Spinal Cord Injury

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in dysfunction of motor and sensory system and the hormonal secretion. Not only the change of peripheral hormonal organs, the central neurotransmitters were also affected. We consider there are some changes in cerebral physiology, anatomy or function after SCI. Objective: Use PET imaging to investigate the brain functional difference among the SCI and control group.

Managing Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Without Intracranial Pressure Monitoring (ICP) Monitoring...

Traumatic Brain Injury

Management of intracranial hypertension (ICH) in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) is crucial to their survival and optimal recovery. The evidence-based Guidelines for the Management of Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, 3rd Edition recommends use of intracranial pressure (ICP) monitors to assess ICH and guide intervention. Unfortunately, only a small percentage of the world has the resources and capability to routinely monitor ICP. The objective of this proposal is to create and test guidelines for the treatment of severe TBI in the absence of ICP monitoring.
