Injury Epidemiology Within Scottish Professional Football

The aim of the present study is to establish the injury incidence, severity and burden typically observed within Scottish professional football clubs. In line with the well-established model of sports injury prevention research proffered by van Mechelen, the first stage in this process is establishing the extent of the problem i.e. injury incidence, severity and burden. Such a multi-club study has never been conducted within Scotland despite a thriving professional game.

Wound Healing Disturbance of Port-A

Permanently implantable venous ports (Port-A) is very important to patients receiving chemotherapy. It not only provides a reliable route to administrate intravenous drugs, and it also requires minimal care when it is not in use. However, catheter related blood stream infection(CRBSI) is one of the serious complications of Port-A. The diagnosis of CRBSI relies on limited tools, including blood culture or symptoms and signs of active infection. In the stage of CRBSI, Port-A removal is necessary and pose the risk for the patients to re-implant the Port-A. Thus, it is crucial to early detect the infection and give appropriate treatment. Among the pathogens, some pathogens are related to skin contaminants. Before systemic spreading, these pathogens may colonize or cause minor infection subcutaneously. This investigation is to utilize a non-invasive dual spectrum infrared imaging system to evaluate the Port-A wound and to detect the infection. Aim: 1. To build the database of infra-red thermal images of Port-A wound healing. 2. To investigate the thermal images of skin contamination related CRBSI and to compare with the thermal images of the CRBSI of unknown foci

The objective of the protocol is to pursue the long-term follow-up of a large cohort of severe traumatic brain injury patients. This outcome is to be described in terms of activity, participation, quality of life, socio-professional outcome, economical consequences and impact on caregivers, and in relation to health care provision. Secondary objectives are to measure the impact on outcome of several predictive factors; to evaluate evolution of patients since the last (four-year) evaluation.

The study of plasma and urine proteomic profiles in patients with ischemic brain injury is important to better understanding of the mechanisms by which thrombolytic agents or other therapy affects clinical outcomes. The purpose of this study is to study the proteomic profile of patients with ischemic brain injury and compare it to control subjects without ischemic brain injury, subjects with other chronic neurologic diseases or systemic vascular diseases, and pre- and post- therapy which may be associated with, or predictive of, therapeutic outcome. The investigators hypothesize that there is a unique set of proteins expressed in serum and urine in patients with ischemic brain injury that may provide a more complete understanding of ischemic brain injury pathophysiology. Ultimately, this study may provide information of direct relevance to the medical care of a large proportion of patients with ischemic brain injury and other neurologic diseases in the future. And proteomic proteomic profile may provide important information about the roles of specific biomarkers. Perhaps the prevention of ischemic injury related complications.

CNS reorganization is evidenced in patients with CNS lesion, no exception to the patients with spinal cord injury. The paraplegics have to increase their loading of upper extremities to compesate the lost function of lower extremities. We hypothesize that CNS reorganization can happen in the chronic paraplegics. We try to compare the changes of parameters of transcranial magnetic stimulation in these patients with the normal population cross-sectionally.

Wound

This is a non-randomized evaluation for which 160 adult patients will be imaged at outpatient wound care clinics who present with a wound of unknown infection diagnostic status and are receiving standard treatment. The MolecuLight i:X Imaging Device will be used as an adjunctive tool in the assessment of the wound and may be used to guide the targeted sampling of a wound (using a conventional punch biopsy method).
