Developing a Home Telehealth Program to Manage Pressure Ulcers in SCI/D
Spinal Cord InjuryThe Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) is a national leader in using distance technology to monitor patients' self-care via an in-home messaging device with disease management protocols (DMPs). No such DMPs exist for the community dwelling spinal cord injury/disorders (SCI/D) population. Our objective is to develop the tools necessary for implementing a new home telehealth program to manage community-dwelling veterans with SCI/D at high risk of developing pressure ulcers (PrUs).
Use of "Smart Wheelchairs" to Provide Independent Mobility to Visual and Mobility Impairments
BlindnessSpinal Cord InjuryThe goal of this project is to evaluate the Smart Wheelchair Component System (SWCS) for power wheelchairs and the Smart Power Assistance Module (SPAM) for manual wheelchairs in realistic indoor environments with target users performing realistic tasks. We will combine group trials involving individuals who have a visual impairment (but do not have a mobility impairment) with several single-case studio involving individuals who have a visual and mobility impairment. Our long-term objective is to provide independent mobility to veterans with mobility and sensory impairments.
The Impact of Electroacupuncture on Clinical Effect,Brain Structural and Functional Changes on Spinal...
Spinal Cord InjuriesSpinal cord injury (SCI) is a kind of severe disease with high morbidity and complications. At present, electroacupuncture has certain advantages in treating motor sensory dysfunction, neuropathologic pain, neurogenic bladder and intestinal dysfunction after spinal cord injury. However, previous clinical studies of acupuncture neglected the brain, which is closely related to the structure and function of spinal cord. So,the aim of this study is to observe and analyse the impact of the changes of gray and white matter volume on whole brain and brain functional re-establish,to reveal the neuroimaging mechanism of improving the motor sensory functions of patients with spinal cord injury, and to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical application of electroacupuncture.
Using NI-ES to Treat Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)
Spinal Cord InjuriesPain1 moreNI-ES therapy is a treatment that is being studied to potentially treat pain associated with SCI and may help movement below the injury site.
Perfusion and Diffusion Mechanism of Intervertebral Disc-Significance With Age, Degeneration, Posture...
Spinal Cord InjuryDegenerative Spinal Disease. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the perfusion of the IVDs and their diffusion ability by using the Dynamic contrast-enhanced MR perfusion technique and Diffusion weighted image with ADC value measurement, and to determine the relationship between these data and the degeneration of IVDs, the different posture, and different stress-loading status.
Non-Ambulatory SCI Walk Using a Robotic Exoskeleton: Effect on Bone and Muscle
Spinal Cord InjuryThe purpose of this research study is to evaluate an exoskeleton device and mobility skills in the device.
Effects of Acute SCI on Colonic Motility & Tone
Spinal Cord InjuryThis study will compare individuals with acute SCI to control patients in order to: 1. Determine if there are changes in colonic tone and sensation after SCI by comparing the fasting responses to the postprandial responses; 2. Determine if there are changes in colonic phasic motility after SCI by comparing the fasting responses to the postprandial responses; 3. Determine if colonic motor and sensory function after SCI change over time by repeating these studies six month later in SCI and control patients.
Pilot Study of the Neuro-Spinal Scaffold for the Treatment of AIS A Cervical Acute SCI
Traumatic Cervical Acute Spinal Cord InjuryPilot Study of Clinical Safety and Feasibility of the Neuro-Spinal ScaffoldTM for the Treatment of Complete (AIS A) Traumatic Acute Spinal Cord Injury at the C5-T1 Neurological Levels The purpose of this study is to support an expansion to support marketing applications as well as future studies.

Mobility and Therapeutic Benefits Resulting From Exoskeleton Use in a Home and Community Setting...
Spinal Cord InjuryThe proposed study is a pilot study intended to inform the hypothesis that regular walking in an exoskeleton within the home and community might offer health benefit, neurological recovery, and/or mobility benefit to the user. This exploratory pilot study is also intended to assess the level of compliance (i.e., exoskeleton use) among study participants by characterizing extent the device is used beyond the minimum required.
