Cardiometabolic disorders are a leading cause of death worldwide. Replacing saturated fatty acids (SFA) with unsaturated fatty acids is recommended as a way of lowering cardiometabolic disease risk. Consuming a diet rich in SFA may lead to a greater metabolic-inflammatory response in white adipose tissue during the fasting state, when compared to eating a diet rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA). Since individuals spend most of the day in the fed (or postprandial) state, it is important to see how different types of dietary fatty acids affect postprandial white adipose tissue and systemic metabolic-inflammatory responses. This study will investigate the effect of a SFA-rich meal on markers of white adipose tissue and systemic metabolic-inflammation, compared to a MUFA-rich meal in overweight adults. In a randomised, single blind controlled, cross-over manner participants will consume either a SFA- or MUFA-rich meal and sequential blood and white adipose tissue samples will be collected before and until 6 hours postprandially.

Effects of Severe Negative Energy Balance on Inflammation

The effects of prolonged negative energy balance, commonly observed in sustained military training and combat operations, on systemic inflammatory responses has not been determined. To define the putative role of energy balance on inflammation and its downstream effects, we will conduct a controlled laboratory study that simulates extensive physiological stressors to determine if inflammation is exacerbated by underfeeding. This design will test the hypothesis that maintaining energy balance will attenuate systemic inflammation and its potential negative effects on whole-body metabolic homeostasis in response to physiological stressors.

This is a randomized, crossover clinical trial with 25 male and female cyclists. Study participants will ingest polyphenol-rich cranberry juice or placebo juice for 4 weeks under double-blinded procedures, and then crossover to the opposite supplement. The primary objective of this study is to examine the efficacy of 4-weeks ingestion of cranberry juice in moderating exercise-induced inflammation, immune dysfunction, and muscle damage. Outcome measures will include global proteiomics, oxylipins, and cytokines.

The most important property of a dosage of a drug administration is its ability to deliver the active ingredient to the site of action in a quantity sufficient to exert the expected pharmacological effect. This ability is known as bioavailability. Dexamethasone is a drug with wide clinical use in patients with inflammatory pathologies (infectious or non-infectious). The main routes of administration are oral and intravenous. The intranasal route could be one more effective, less invasive that would allow to obtain a faster therapeutic concentration and in greater concentration in the lungs and in the central nervous system than the intravenous route, maintaining very similar systemic concentrations to those achieved intravenously. For these reasons, it is important to know the bioavailability of dexamethasone administered by this route in order to establish the best dosing regimen. The pilot study is of an exploratory nature (descriptive, comparative or informative), whose objective is to know the pharmacokinetic characteristics of a new route of administration of a drug in the study population to establish the pharmacokinetic parameters, and the comparison between the intranasal bioavailability against the intravenous administration by determining confidence intervals and calculating one-sided double t of Scuirmann. Objetive: To evaluate the Absolute Bioavailability (for information purposes) of Dexamethasone 8 mg/2 ml Injectable Solution (Intranasal Route 6 mg/ 1.5 ml Vs Intravenous Route 6 mg/ 1.5 ml), according to the specific evaluation parameters and general under fasting conditions.

Wholegrain fibre is known to affect on the gut health, but also may cause intestinal discomfort. Thus, many individuals may avoid the consumption of whole grain cereals in spite of their known health benefits, and may in this regard consume more restricted diets. In the preset study the aim was to technologically modify the cereal fibres to improve its usability and to maintain its health beneficial properties. The objective was to investigate intestinal fermentation of grain dietary fibre and associated effects on gut-mediated metabolic health, such as immunological health and adipose tissue function. The hypothesis was that whole grain products maintain their original beneficial health effects and may be better tolerable when the bran is technologically modified. Additionally, it was hypothesized that gut-mediated bioavailability of plant cell wall compounds and their metabolites affect the metabolic health through their immunomodulatory effects.
