Effect of Artemisia Dracunculus on Glucose Intolerance, Insulin Sensitivity and Insulin Secretion...
Glucose IntoleranceThe term prediabetes has been used to encompass the first alterations on glucose metabolism such as impaired fasting glucose and glucose intolerance, and its early detection and treatment could prevent the appearance of diabetes mellitus type 2, a high prevalence disease worldwide. Artemisia dracunculus, also known as estragon, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of diabetes. Different in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that Artemisia dracunculus increases insulin signaling and improves insulin sensitivity. The aim of this study is evaluate the effect of Artemisia dracunculus on glucose intolerance, insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion.

Influence of Exercise Therapy on Insulin Resistance in Patients With Heart Failure
Chronic Heart FailureThe purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a combined training programme on insulin resistance, exercise tolerance, muscle strength, body composition and cardiac function in chronic heart failure patients. It is assumed that the above mentioned clinical parameters will improve due to physical exercise.

Cardioprotective and Metabolic Effects of Metformin in Patients With Heart Failure and Diabetes...
Insulin ResistanceChronic Heart FailureThe aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of metformin on myocardial function, insulin resistance and selected metabolic markers in patients with type 2 diabetes and heart failure (HF+DM+) in a cross-over, randomized, placebo controlled trial. Hypothesis: Metformin treatment in HF+DM+ group will lead to better myocardial function and load tolerance in comparison to placebo. The degree of improvement will be linked to selected metabolic parameters.

Effect of Exercise on Insulin Resistance
Prediabetic StateThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of exercise on Insulin Resistance (IR) in subjects who do not routinely exercise and who are at risk of developing diabetes (prediabetes). It is estimated that approximately 30-90 people will participate in this study at three study sites in the United States and United Kingdom.

A Study to Explore the Effects of Azilsartan Compared to Telmisartan on Insulin Resistance of Patients...
Essential Hypertension Complicated by Type 2 Diabetes MellitusMulticenter, randomized, open-label, parallel-group exploratory study to explore the effects of azilsartan (Azirva), compared with telmisartan, on insulin resistance in participants with essential hypertension complicated by type 2 diabetes mellitus

Role of Rosiglitazone on Pre-Diabetes Mellitus and Coronary Artery Disease
PrediabetesCoronary Artery Disease2 moreObjectives: The investigators examined whether rosiglitazone, a thiazolidinedione (TZD), is beneficial for pre-diabetes mellitus (DM) adults with documented coronary artery disease (CAD). Background: Microvascular and macrovascular complications are common in type 2 DM. There is no evidence about the effects of TZDs, synthetic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-γ activators (insulin sensitizers and adipose transcriptional regulation and anti-inflammatory process activators) on pre-DM patients with documented CAD.

Effects of Phlebotomy on Insulin Sensitivity in Insulin Resistance-associated Hepatic Iron Overload...
Insulin ResistanceIron OverloadThe purpose of this study is to evaluate efficacy of phlebotomy on insulin sensitivity as evaluated by euglycemic-hyperinsulinic clamp in insulin resistance-associated hepatic iron overload patients.

The Effects of Renal Denervation on Insulin Sensitivity
Treatment Resistant Essential HypertensionInsulin ResistanceRenal sympathetic nerves contribute to development of hypertension. Sympathetic overactivity also induces insulin resistance and it could therefore be assumed that a renal denervation might improve insulin sensitivity. Studies have shown that glucose metabolism is improved in patients with treatment resistant essential hypertension both 1 and 3 months after renal denervation compared to a control group with treatment resistant essential hypertension. Fasting glucose, insulin and C-peptide decreased significantly as did insulin resistance assessed by HOMA-IR. The investigators wish to investigate the effect of renal denervation on insulin sensitivity using the gold standard - the hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp and to investigate the degree of insulin resistance in muscle, liver and adipose tissue.

The Effect of Iloprost on Capillary Recruitment and Insulin Sensitivity in Type 2 Diabetes
Diabetes MellitusType 21 moreThis study examines the effects of iloprost - a stable prostacyclin analogue - on insulin-mediated muscle capillary recruitment and whole-body glucose uptake in a cross-over design.

Metabolic Effects of Melatonin Treatment
Metabolic DiseaseInsulin Sensitivity4 moreModern living is associated with an epidemic of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Sleep disturbances such as insomnia or frequent awakenings are strong risk factors for T2DM with several studies indicating a central role of melatonin. Additionally, a certain single nucleotide polymorphism in the melatonin receptor gene, MTNR1B rs10830963, with an allele frequency of 30 %, is associated with increased fasting plasma glucose and T2DM. Due to treatment of, among other things, insomnia, the use of melatonin is increasing rapidly in Denmark with a 100-fold increase from 2007-2012 in children and adolescents. No previous studies have thoroughly assessed changes in glucose and fatty acid metabolism after 3 months of melatonin treatment in patients with T2DM.
