Canine Guidance vs Bilateral Balanced Occlusion in Complete Denture
Edentulous MouthEdentulous JawThe objective of this study is to compare the canine guidance (CG) and bilateral balanced occlusion (BBO) on denture satisfaction and kinesiographic parameters of complete denture wearers, by means of a cross-over trial. Edentulous patients will receive new maxillary and mandibular complete dentures and, after the intraoral adjustments and adaptation period, will randomly receive a sequence of occlusal schemes: BBO followed by CG, or CG followed by BBO.
Comparison of Lingualized and Full Bilaterally Balanced Articulation
JawEdentulousThe purpose of this study is to find the difference between patient satisfaction, masticatory performance and cost between two occlusal schemes for complete denture prosthodontics.
Short Implants - An Alternative to Bone Grafting?
JawEdentulous1 moreThe study, with the ASTRA TECH Implant System, is comparing short implants (OsseoSpeed™) to standard length implants (OsseoSpeed™) in combination with bone grafting. The hypothesis is that the use of short implants in posterior maxilla with inadequate bone is as safe and predictable as placing standard length implants in combination with bone augmentation.
Bone Dimensional Changes at Different Implant-to-abutment Connections: a 1-year Clinical and Radiological...
JawEdentulous1 moreAim of the present study will be to evaluate if the platform switching and the flat abutment can modify the peri-implant marginal bone remodelling. A clinical assessment of the soft tissues will also be provided. 80 consecutively inserted dental implants will be included in this study. Maxillary and mandibular implants will be considered, both in frontal and posterior area. After 6 to 12 weeks, the definitive prosthetic abutment will be screwed and the temporary crown cemented. After 2 more months, the definitive porcelain crown will be delivered. The final outcomes will be collected after 1 year from implant insertion. Data will refer to the following timing: T0= implant installation T1= temporary crown cementation T2= definitive crown cementation T3= 1 year follow-up The 80 implants will be randomly divided into 4 groups of 20 implants each, with different implant/abutment design. Group 1: Tapered T3 Standard Collar implants + GingiHue abutments Group 2: Tapered T3 Standard Collar implants + Tissuemax IL abutments Group 3: Tapered T3 Prevail implants + GingiHue abutments Group 4: Tapered T3 Prevail implants + Tissuemax IL abutments On x-rays, the mesial and distal Marginal Bone Level will be measured and compared among and between the groups at the 4 different timing. Pocket Depth and Bleeding on probing (mesial, buccal, distal and lingual) will be measured at T0, T1, T2 and T3. Data will be statistically analyzed.
Case Selection and Treatment Protocol for Immediate Dental Implants in the Esthetic Zone
JawEdentulous2 moreIn this study a tooth that needs to be extracted will be replaced by an implant (artificial root) placed at the same appointment as the extraction. The investigators want to observe how the gums change shape with healing in two different scenarios: If the soft tissue around your tooth is thin, following extraction and implant placement an extra soft tissue graft (taken from your palate) in the area in order to increase the thickness of your gums after healing. If the soft tissue around your tooth is thick, the implant will be placed without a soft tissue graft. Previous studies have shown that both methods work and can give good results. In fact the two methods are used routinely but they have never been compared objectively to one another in the same research study. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate if there is any difference in terms of esthetic outcomes between these two treatment modalities after a crown has been placed on the implant.
Treatment Outcomes With Full Arch Rehabilitations Retained by Immediate or Conventionally Loaded...
Edentulous JawMissing TeethThis study aims to assess the treatment outcomes (clinical, functional and subjective) of full arch rehabilitations supported by implants with or without an immediate loading protocol. In this randomized clinical trial 20 fully edentulous patients were treated with full arch rehabilitations on dental implants. In half of the sample, the implants were loaded immediately by means of abutments after emplacement of the implant; but in the counterparts these abutments were connected to implants two months after the surgery (conventional protocol), and until that time the dentures were retained by healing abutments. Treatment outcomes were assessed at 2, 6 and 12 months after surgery. Clinical outcomes were quantified on the basis of implant failure rate, marginal bone loss and the peri-implant gingival index. Functional outcomes were calculated according to masticatory performance, estimated by the mixed fraction of a two-coloured chewing gum after 5, 10 and 15 chewing strokes, by the occlusal force recorded by pressure-sensitive sheets and by the bioelectrical muscular activity. The subjective outcomes of the treatment were assessed using both the oral satisfaction scale (visual analogue scale) and the Spanish version of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-20).
Study Evaluating ASTRA TECH Implant System, OsseoSpeed™ Implants in the Upper Jaw in Women With...
Postmenopausal OsteoporosisOsteopenia3 moreThe overall objective of the study is to compare treatment with the ASTRA TECH Implant System, OsseoSpeed™ implant in the maxilla of postmenopausal women with and without systemic osteoporosis. The hypothesis is that there will be no difference in marginal bone level alterations between the two groups.
Straumann Bone Ceramic Versus BioOss in Sinus Elevation
JawEdentulous2 moreStraumann Bone Ceramic (SBC) and BioOss will be used as bone grafting materials when there is a need for bone augmentation in the posterior upper jaw. 9 months later the bone formation is evaluated. The patients are followed for 3 years. The study hypothesis is that the SBC is not worse than BioOss.
Study of Bone Preservation When OsseoSpeed™ Implants Are Placed Immediately Following Tooth Extraction...
JawEdentulous1 moreThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical performance of implants placed in individuals who are about to loose one or more of their upper teeth. The main objective is to study how the surrounding bone tissue reacts to two different shapes of implants. Clinical performance, in wider terms, means esthetics and long lasting function. Half of the patients will receive a cylindrically shaped implant and the other half will receive a conical-cylindrical implant. The implants will be placed and after a healing period of 16 weeks the gum will be re-opened and the bone tissue response clinically evaluated. Permanent artificial tooth/teeth will be attached six weeks after that.
Impact of the Use of New Complete Denture on the Oral Health Related to Quality of Life (OHRQoL)...
Edentulous JawQuality of LifeThe aim of this project was to evaluate the impact before and after (3, 6, 9, and 12 months) of oral rehabilitation with conventionalof the insertion of new complete dentures (CD) in the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in total edentulous patients compared to dentate individuals. This is a clinical trial study approved by the Research Ethics Committee (nº 31105714.7.0000.5626 ) which was conducted on 122 patients who attended the clinics of Federal Fluminense University, with the necessity of CD. The eligibility criteria were: healthy patients without disabilities; aged up to 50 years; complete upper and or lower jaw edentulism for a minimum 5 years; the presence of adequate healthy tissue to support the prosthesis; adequate cognitive ability and understanding to respond to the questions posed. It will be excluded patient with motor disabilities, cognitive impairment and people with special needs. After the installation of the CD a follow-up of one week, three, six, nine, twelve and eighteen months will be performed. The Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-Edent) instrument will be applied (in form of an interview) to evaluate the impact of CD on OHRQoL. The scores of the OHIP-Edent index will be calculated using the additive method, summing the numeric response codes for each item. Shapiro-Wilk test revealed nonparametric distribution of data. Chi-square, Mann-Whitney U, and Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed for comparing groups according to sociodemographic data. Kruskal-Wallis test was per- formed for comparing groups and treatments throughout time. A significance level of 5% was adopted, and all analyses were performed on Statistical Analysis System (SAS) version 9.3 software. The responsiveness was assessed by analyzing the change of the scores on the scales and subscales. The changes was calculated by subtracting the post-treatment scores from the before-treatment scores. Positive change scores will indicate an improvement in OHRQoL, while negative scores will indicate deterioration.
