A Study of Saquinavir Soft Gel Capsules (SGC) Used in Combination With Two Other Anti-HIV Drugs...
HIV InfectionsAIDS-Associated NephropathyThe purpose of this study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of saquinavir SGC plus stavudine (d4T) plus lamivudine (3TC) with that of saquinavir SGC plus nelfinavir plus d4T in patients with HIV-associated kidney disease. This study examines whether these drug combinations are effective in preventing kidney disease from progressing to a stage where it is immediately life threatening. This study also examines the effect these drug combinations have on the level of HIV detected in these patients. Finally, this study evaluates the drug level (the amount of drug found in the body) of these two combinations in patients with kidney disease.

Oxaliplatin in Cancer Patients With Impaired Kidney Function
Kidney DiseaseNeoplasm1 moreOxaliplatin is an experimental anti-cancer drug that can shrink tumors such as colon cancer. However, because this drug can damage the kidneys, it is necessary to determine what doses of the drug can safely be given to patients with poor kidney function. Patients with advanced cancer, poorly functioning kidneys, and no good standard treatment options are eligible for this study. Candidates will be screened with imaging tests, such as CT and MRI scans, to determine the size and location of the cancer and with blood and urine tests to evaluate kidney and liver function. Study participants will receive oxaliplatin intravenously (through a vein) every 3 weeks for as long as the cancer is under control and there are no serious side effects from the drug. If significant side effects develop, the dosage will be reduced, or the drug will be stopped. Blood tests to measure blood cell counts will be done at least once a week, and CT scans, chest X-rays, and MRIs will be done about once every 6 weeks to assess the tumor's response to the treatment. Additional blood tests will be done at the beginning of the first two treatment cycles to measure the amount of oxaliplatin in the blood, and urine will be collected during the first 24 hours of drug treatment to determine how much drug is eliminated by the body in urine.

Accelerated Age-related Cognitive Decline: Impact of Exercise on Executive Function and Neuroplasticity...
Mild Cognitive ImpairmentChronic Kidney DiseasesThe purpose of this study is to see if 6 months of home-based walking will improve memory, and brain structure and function, compared to health education in older adults that have chronic kidney disease and mild cognitive impairment.

Immuno-nutrition Supplementation in Haemodialysis
Chronic Kidney Disease Requiring Chronic DialysisThe purpose of this pilot study is to test if an "immuno-nutrition" supplement can decrease inflammation in people on haemodialysis. This immuno-nutrition supplement is high in calories and protein like other common nutritional supplements, but also contains a unique combination of ingredients that have been shown to reduce inflammation (a problem which is caused by the body's defence [immune] system communicating that something is wrong) and improve the immune system in people with cancer. The research team hopes that this small study will help with gaining a good understanding of the effect of immuno-nutrition on inflammation in people on haemodialysis, which will guide and allow the research team to do a larger research study in the future.

Dialysis Geriatric Care Model
Chronic Kidney DiseasesDialysis1 moreThe objectives of this study are to refine the dialysis care model with key stakeholder input and conduct a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) to obtain evidence critical to inform a definitive RCT.

Obinutuzumab in the Management of Idiopathic Membranous Nephropathy
Idiopathic Membranous NephropathyTo observe the efficacy and safety of obinutuzumab in Chinese population with idiopathic membranous nephropathy and guide clinical management.

Benchtop NMR Spectroscopy for Assessment of Clinical Human Pathologies (BRANCH-P STUDY)
DiabetesChronic Kidney Diseases26 moreThis research programme seeks to combine the resources of NHS primary care, with the leading spectroscopic work in low-magnetic fields of the Wilson Group (Nottingham Trent University) to demonstrate the potential for benchtop Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in human clinical pathology. This is an instrument assessment study for point of care viability which will also result in enhanced patient care (pending their consent) in blood screenings and metabolic health data.

A Phase 1 Dose Escalation Study to Evaluate Safety and Pharmacokinetics (PK) of VX-840 in Healthy...
APOL1-mediated Kidney DiseaseThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and PK of single and multiple ascending doses of VX-840 in healthy participants.

Polydextrose for Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease
Chronic Kidney DiseasesConstipationConstipation is a common complication in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Reduced intake of fibre-rich food is among the most important causes of constipation. The study aims to investigate the possible influence of polydextrose (PDX) supplementation on constipation in patients with CKD on HD.
