Investigation of the Efficacy of Quinine Sulphate Administered Via Taste-Masked Pellets to Children...

Malaria

No pediatric formulations of quinine exist. Therefore, quinine tablets are broken into 2 or 4 parts, according to the body weight. Based on the body weight, 1/2 or 1/4 a tablet is administered to the child. At this moment, quinine sulphate pellets are developed. These pellets enable an adequate dosing according to the body weight. 56 children with malaria will be dosed every 8 hours during 7 days with 10-15mg/kg body weight.

Pyronaridine-artesunate With Low Dose Primaquine for Preventing P. Falciparum Transmission

Malaria,Falciparum

The purpose of this study is to assess the gametocytocidal and transmission reducing activity of pyronaridine-artesunate (PA) and dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DP) with and without a single low dose of primaquine (PQ; 0.25mg/kg). Outcome measures will include infectivity at 2 and 7 days after treatment, the duration of infectivity in the artemisinin combination therapy (ACT) only arms, and the production and detectability of histidine rich protein II.

Trial of Azithromycin Plus Chloroquine Versus Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine Plus Chloroquine for the...

PLASMODIUM FALCIPARUM MALARIA

This primary objective of this study is to assess whether the combination of Azithromycin with chloroquine is non-inferior to the combination of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine plus chloroquine, when used to treat uncomplicated cases of malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum in adults in India.

Arterolane-PQP Versus DHA-PQP in Uncomplicated Falciparum Malaria in Eastern Myanmar

Uncomplicated Falciparum MalariaArtemisinin-resistant

Emerging resistance to artemisinins and their partner drugs severely threatens the treatment of falciparum malaria in Myanmar with artemisinin combination therapies. To inform drug policy, it is crucial to evaluate alternative antimalarial treatments. The investigators here propose a randomized clinical trial comparing parasite clearance parameters and efficacy of 3 days arterolane-piperaquine with standard treatment with 3 days dihydroartemisinin (DHA)-piperaquine in adult patients with uncomplicated falciparum malaria in Myanmar stratified for the presence of "K13" mutation in the infecting parasite strains.

Enhancing Preventive Therapy of Malaria In Children With Sickle Cell Anemia in East Africa (EPiTOMISE)...

Malaria,Falciparum

This is a randomized, three-arm, open-label, clinical trial of malaria chemoprevention in children with sickle-cell anemia (SCA) at a single site in Homa Bay, Kenya. The study will enroll 246 children under 10 years of age, randomize participants 1:1:1 to one of three malaria chemoprevention regimens, and follow participants monthly for 12 months in order to record clinical episodes of malaria or SCA-related morbidity. Analyses will compare the efficacy of each regimen to prevent malaria and SCA morbidity.

Safety, Tolerability, and Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of TB31F

Malaria,Falciparum

This phase 1 study aims to assess the safety and tolerability of monoclonal antibody TB31F administered intravenously or subcutaneously at escalating dose levels in healthy, malaria naïve, adults. This study will also evaluate the pharmacokinetics of TB31F and the functional activity of mAb TB31F in the standard membrane feeding assay.

Dose Escalation, Randomized Controlled Trial to Evaluate the Safety, Immunogenicity and Efficacy...

MalariaPlasmodium Falciparum Malaria

This trial will evaluate whether relatively non-immune populations in endemic countries can effectively generate significant cellular and humoral immune responses that confer protection against P. falciparum infection after inoculation of aseptic, purified, vialed, metabolically active, non-replicating (live, radiation attenuated) Plasmodium falciparum sporozoites (PfSPZ Vaccine) administered intravenously (IV).
