IIT2020-20-SHIRAZIP-WALK: Nature Walks
Breast CancerCancer6 moreThe purpose of this study is to examine whether nature-based activities provide benefits for breast cancer survivors. The investigators want to know whether a nature-based exercise program is feasible. Women who were diagnosed with breast cancer and have completed cancer treatment will be recruited for the main study. The main study will enroll up to 20 breast cancer subjects in total. This intervention will also include a sub-study examining the same outcomes among adolescents and young adult (AYA) subjects who were diagnosed with cancer (any type) and have completed cancer treatment. The sub-study will enroll up to 20 AYA (ages 18-39) subjects.
Evaluation of the Impact of a Pharmaceutical Interview on the Adherence to Hormonotherapy in Women...
Breast CancerBreast cancer is the first cancer in women and 60% of new cases occurring in women 50 to 74 years old. With about 50,000 new cases, it is the second cancer the most serious cancers. In the therapeutic strategy, hormone therapy takes pride of place by allowing a significant reduction in the recurrence rate. For the hormonotherapy be effective, patient compliance should be optimal during treatment. Different factors or barriers may lead to a lack of adherence, such as the occurrence of adverse effects, treatment fatigue, a difficult relationship with the health care team, beliefs about success or the need for treatment. In order to facilitate the compliance of hormonoherapy treatment by patients, it is important to include different health professionals such as pharmacists.

Effects of Exercise Oncology Intervention in Fitness Capacity and Body Composition in Breast Cancer...
Breast CancerExercise Oncology2 moreThe goal of this interventional study is to analyze the impact of a supervised oncological exercise intervention in surviving breast cancer patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: Evaluate the efectivity of a supervised individualized and adapted oncological physical exercise program in the cardiovascular fitness of the participants. Analyze the impact of this intervention in the body composition, functionality and quality of life of the parcitipants Participants will perform a controlled and adapted program, supervised by an especialized professional during 16 weeks. Researchers will compare this intervention group, where the supervised program will take place, with a control group, where the patients will perform regular physical activity (non-supervised) to see the changes in the efectivity and impact in cardiovascular fitness, body composition and quality of life.
Docetaxel or Paclitaxel in Reducing Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy in African American...
Anatomic Stage I Breast Cancer AJCC v8Anatomic Stage IA Breast Cancer AJCC v819 moreThis phase II trial studies how well docetaxel or paclitaxel work in reducing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in African American patients with stages I-III breast cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as docetaxel and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. It is not yet known whether giving docetaxel or paclitaxel may work better than other methods in reducing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in patients with breast cancer.
Implementing Exercise Into Clinical Practice in Breast Cancer Care
Breast CancerBACKGROUND: One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. With improved screening and treatment techniques, more women are surviving breast cancer. However, women live with physical and emotional side effects secondary to treatment for years after cancer treatments have ended. Exercise can help to manage these side effects, however, less than 30% of this population takes part in regular exercise. The objective of this trial is to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of a novel exercise and education program for women with breast cancer during chemotherapy. METHODS: Participants in this study include women with a diagnosis of stage 1 - 3 breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Women will be divided into three groups. The first group will include 8 sessions of exercise and self-management education during their chemotherapy treatment. The second group will receive self-management education only, and the third group will receive usual care. Outcomes will be compared between groups at baseline, post-intervention, and at 6- and 12- month follow up. Outcomes to be assessed include exercise level, functional mobility, muscle strength, quality of life, health status, and use of health care services. EXPECTED OUTCOMES: Women with breast cancer are among the least active segment of the Canadian population. It is well known that inactivity can lead to physical and psychological side effects, cancer recurrence, and an increase in comorbid conditions. This proposed project addresses a long-standing need to help women with breast cancer become and stay more active by implementing a novel exercise and education program.
